So, how good, bad, or otherwise is it for you?

I know its apparently not great for the heart if you drink too much, but how badly would it affect a healthy diet compared with, say, a can of Coke?

Around the same I'd guess. Just googled the calories. Red bull has less but that's probably just because of the serving size. In short, they're both muck, but everything in moderation and all that.

Unless you're dropping a shot of Jägermeister into it, I don't see why else anybody would drink it!

Interesting subject, the FDA limit for caffeine I remember is around 4.5/5 mg per ounce. Red Bull has about 6.5/7 mg per ounce. Good solid system alright.
From a pharmacological standpoint (), for adults caffeine is pretty much benign (unless of course they're whacking back cans all day or have a cocaine habit)... but it's only when you start talking about the kids that people should get concerned because energy drinks are known to cause anxiety/insomnia/nausea/irritation, and so definitely not a good idea for a tired 5 year old.

ounce for ounce there'd be nearly 3 times as much caffeine in red bull vs. coke.

It tastes bloody lovely, imo. Also on the subject of jaegerbombs, playing a gig last week, my band were supplied with a small fridge of free red bull. Being the enterprising young man I am, I snuck in some jaeger for myself. Played better than ever before, didn't miss a note!

Not only have I never drank alcohol, I've also never had a red bull or energy drink, but by God, Red Bull smells like vomit to me

I was a fan of red bull way before I ever had it with alcohol... Actually love a bottle of Boost pre-training.

It's been popular for a hell of a lot longer than 12 years.
