Mine is dumbell bench press(flat or incline) supersetted(is that even a word?) with (incline/flat) dumbell flys.

Mine alternates between Squat and Deadlift. It depends on which one I'm making the most progress with.

    Nate

Edit:- actually, weighted Dips are a favourite too.

    Bench press, (barbell)
I know its a bit plain and common. But I think of it as a marker for progress (I only do about 10 diff excercises in total)

I hate barbell bench press, but I really should start using it every second week or something.

Squats are good, I only recently started, 60kg for 8 reps. Then struggled to 5, and then managed like 3 very **** ones.

Even though I could barely do a handful of chin-up reps (proper form) about two months ago and I detested it at the beginning, the sadist in me has grown very fond of it. Especially since you can also vary what you do big time.

I like switching from front grip, to back grip. Then do a set or two of hanging leg raises for the abs. Then maybe do extreme range hangs for 30+ secs to really punish the back.

My two favourites at the moment are front squats and upright rows! They're savage!

    6,12,25 on the triceps.

6 weighted dips, 12 barbell extensions to forehead, 25 pushdowns. No rest in between exercises.

    Actually, I should add,
After being "encouraged" by other posters, i've added squats. Starting at 3x12 at 80kg

    Weighted dips and good mornings

Deadlift far and away - the king of all exercises and one of the most satisfying.

agreed - anyone can bench and curl but it takes guts and dedication to do deadlifts

benching and curling - the 2 most over rated gym exercises by far

Front squats and Cleans at the moment.
Weighted dips, Deadlift and Squat are classic favourites.

I love doing hanging leg rasies (toes to hands) and L-sits, oh and hanging wipers.

I guess it's whatever lift I'm making progress with at the time will be my favourite.

I have always and will always hate split squats!

I respond very well to all weight training exercises so I don't really have a favourite - but for the sake of the thread I'll pick dips (not weighted).

SKWAATS! i love squats, i miss them. sure anyone can pull a bar off the floor, its putting it on your back that makes things interesting

agreed - but it takes a real man to squat :p

The reason I rank squatting about deadlifting is just the sheer mind fcuk that goes on under a heavy squat. You can drop a DL, benches are easy to spot.... but if you miss a heavy squat, it's not a nice experience. Takes a huge amount of guts to keep pushing the hard reps when you know you might not get them!!

And to answer the question, squats are probably my favourite, tho power cleans are edging in there now. They're just a fun lift!!

SLDL's and One Arm Rows, simply because I'm confident doing them as opposed to some other exercises.

    Power Cleans.
Even though I don't do them anymore.

I think I would like the snatch too.

Clean&press and deadlifts. Clean&press because I've only recently started doing it and love the novelty factor and deadlifts because its the most weight I can move at one time.

Hanley is right about the dedication it takes to do heavy squats though, I know the fear has held me back.

    Front squats and Deadlifts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭cardio, shoot me

Deadlifts for me, probably cause im good at them, squats would be a close 2nd

edit: oh and bigstar, i knew you would put down squats, your frekin too good at them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Rope pullups, but can only ever do one set, and I'm a shivering mess afterwards, can't close my hands for several minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,977 ✭✭✭rocky

    Front squats and Deadlifts.

Is it normal I need a towel over my chest to be able to do front squats? otherwise my clavicula (sp?) gets in contact with the bar and it gets uncomfortable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭cardio, shoot me

rocky, the bar should be further back on your shoulders, like choking you nearly!!! behind the clavicals (sp)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,977 ✭✭✭rocky

well, it is choking me as it is !!!

I probably just have a thick neck :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭beegirl

Running... although many days it could go on the "exercise I hate" thread!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,819 ✭✭✭✭g'em

Snatches. So fast, so powerful, you put your whole body behind it, there's just something inherently very cool about picking something off the floor and manoeuvring it overhead with breakneck speed :pac:

I still <3 deadlifts though for that sheer omg-lifting-heavy-stuff-is-fun feeling :D

As I'm not finally able to do unassisted dips, I love those. I also love doing the barbell chest press.

I cant beleive nobody ripped into him over this. Nothin about the big mirror, the funny lookin shoes, the big happy head on em after the lift. He's probly just happy I quoted it so people get to see it again :D

Flat Bench is mine for same reason as your man said, it really is the bench mark (pun intended) for how you are progressing.

Skull crusher. I don't know why I love triceps exercises so much to be honest

Since my sport is Judo, where I slam people to the floor - I wish there I could do these exercises in reverse :P

I do the upright row to assist me in breaking balance in Judo, and rows to assist in my pull but otherwise its hard to structure functional weight training around my Judo.

Hitting pads. LOVE IT. It's funny...I thought it would get boring after a while, but nope!

Pull-ups, Chin-ups, Rope Climbing, Barbell/Dumbell Rowing.... Anything that involves pulling (no puns please :D)

Im starting to enjoy bodyweight work alot more now, so id also chime in and say work on Olympic Rings or dips come fairly close
