    Hi,

looking for a car at the moment and i've looked at a few Alfa Romeo 147s... anybody driven one? i've heard that they can be unreliable, expensive to repair, poor resale value... can anyone confirm this? or preferably, has anyone had positive experiences with Alfa Romeos?

    any help is appreciated, cheers!

Please, please, please do a search here first as it's been covered in great detail and almost always ends in protracted arguments.

Difficult to get from a main dealer right now. Lovely car to drive, great free reving engine. Very nice interior. Cam belt needs to be done every 36k, so ask the garage to do this as part of the sale.

thanks for the advice on the cam belt...

eoin, apologies for not searching and thanks for linking the other threads, much appreciated.

No worries - it's just one of those particularly divisive topics here

The 1.9 diesel is a very solid engine, it might be worth considering as well.

cheers, might consider that alright... mileage is a little high on that one but still could be worth a look.

in what way is the garage difficult to deal with?

I have one and love it, and anybody else that drives it loves it to!

Fantastic interior, great sound system as standard, really comfortable, lovely revvy engine and great looking.

Ive had mine 2 years, no problems, just a couple of small fairly random things that generally just went away themselves. Just keep an eye on oil levels and remember the cambelt at 36k at its all good.

Why dont you go for an older one thats way cheaper? Same car, who cares about the year?

Watch the engine oil, keep it topped up with 10w40 semi synthetic oil and check every week. Check there are no knocks from suspension take it on a good test drive and check gear change is smooth. Especially from 2nd to 3rd at high revs.

The 06 model is a good car and a lot of the issues in the earlier models are sorted.

make sure it has leather...don't buy one with cloth interior. All Alfas should have leather, oh yeah and a service history

    Well wear.
I've a '03 156 1.6 which would share a lot of the mechanicals. just hit 128k and its going like a train.
If you keep an eye on the stuff thats already been mentioned, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
