Still recovering from Saturday but already looking forward to this next Sunday. This is a fast course as it starts at a slightly higher elevation than it finishes. Only one small hill at 2k and the last 1k is mainly downhill.
Ran 19:16 last year so I'm looking forward to beating that this year (in my dreams).
And the long range weather forecast is looking good for next Sunday.:D

Have you received any notification for this?
I registered online on runireland but have received nothing from them or the race organisers....
RunIreland did make sure to debit my account though

will it be ok to reg on the day? I will only be running if I am feeling ok after my 20mile LSR on friday, probably won't know if I'm ok until saturday evening...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,734 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

Assuming i can register on the day, i'll be there for this. I run around that loop on training runs some days.
Forgive the novice questions, but will each km be marked, and is it chip timed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Last year, if I remember correctly, each km was marked, but it wasn't chip-timed.

Great race, would love to be doing it, but plan on doing my 20-miler this Sunday instead. Was my first ever race last year, back in the day when kirby was still a huge waddling fatass.

Hoping to do this aswell. Sounds like a great course! Hope to beat 25:32 PB that I ran during the Galway 5k series.

No sign of any numbers coming through from them for me yet either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭guerito

Myself and herself both registered this weekend, also no contact or confirmation. I just emailed the contact on the race page (http://www.athleticsrathfarnham.ie/index.php/rathfarnham-5k-road-race). I'll update if I get confirmation. According to that page, registration on the day is EUR22

I got my number in the post this morning so I'm sure your numbers are on the way. The KM's are marked but no chip. Last year you could register on the day in Terenure College so I assume its the same this year.

Cheers Gerard...I have to be in work by 11.30 (work in rathfarnham) and i can just go up in My tracksuit after the race..will it start on time? I shouldn't take much more than an hour to finish i reckon :P

There is changing and shower facilities in Terenure College. The race starts at 10am sharp (From Race instructions) but it usually takes a few mins for the Guards to close the roads etc. From the finish you can cut back to the college through Bushy park, 5-10min jog, so you should have loads of time to get to work.;)

Tis a real pity that they are not giving the gear bag away again this year. Should still be there tho, Injury permitting

I presume it is the same route as last year?

I think I'll definitely do this now. Was going to do a 20 miler that day but I reckon I'll use the 3 or so miles in the race as a speed session and then do 17 miles afterwards. Killing two birds with the one stone.
Fast course so Im gonna aim for 15:40.

PB is 21.46 from Paddys Day Dublin race last year, but this is the first time I've properly trained for a 5k specifically so I'm targeting a nice 20:59 :D

Sometimes email confirmation from runireland get blocked somewhere because they are automatic.:o If you email them (me) I will forward one to you straight away like I do for every body who asked me.

Also off course the money has been taken when you submit it, this is the purpose of our online payment, when you enter you card details.:P

Any queries email me on the site and I will be happy to help.
Any email confirmation needed, same, just email me.;)

I just heard back from the race organiser. They got a list of entrants from runireland up to Friday last, and they have had their numbers sent out by post. If you've registered through runireland after Friday, you can pick up your number on the day.

    Thanks for this-
I got my number in the post yesterday-
I was surprised that I got no confirmation for this race as for all other races that I registered and paid for online I got an email from runireland almost immediately.
Is the site running ok? As its really slow loading when I try it at home in the evenings. All other sites are fine- I'm using Firefox as my browser

runireland is getting slower at the moment simply because we are are victim of our success, it does look good news but going faster than the 3/4 people working part time at the moment. Our IT specialist Alan is working really hard at the moment to upgrade and make it faster.

Good luck for the event guys, and let us know how you get on.

Is anyone going to the Rathfarnham 5k race on Sunday? I just moved to Ireland from the US for college and registered for the run last week... and then found out that the earliest bus leaving city centre isn't until 9.10, and would not get me to Terenure college until after 10am.

I'd be happy to pay for petrol, etc., and wouldn't need a lift back since I could take the bus by that time. I'm in City Centre (Dublin 1) but would be happy to meet someone pretty much anywhere in the area (DublinBike area).
    Please help!

There appears to be a 65b leaving town at 7.50 on sunday morning - you'd be very early, though. Goes to the same stop as the 15b - just outside terenure college. That bus at 9.10 could well have you out at around 9.30, cos there wont be any traffic at that time.

Thank you so much! I don't know how I missed the 65b, I swear I checked all of the bus routes. Obviously I'm still trying to figure the bus system out! Being there early is better than not being there at all, I suppose I will just bring a book and wait :D

Maybe it's better I get there early - I registered online last Friday afternoon but never received my race pack in the post. Looks like that happened to a lot of other people, hopefully I just missed the cut off and it didn't get lost in the post. I'll bring a print out of my payment confirmation details and hopefully it will work out.

    Thanks again so much!

Bought a new pair of Asic GT2140 for DCM today (my other 2 pair have gone flat), so It's a good excuse to give them a try out tomorrow. I'm about 2M away from it, so taking the novel approach of running to the registration for the warm up, doing the race and running back home again. Not expecting a PB with the amount of long distance races I roped myself into lately, but sub 22 mins will make me happy :D

Fantastic race and conditions, well done Rathfarnham. 20'33 for myself which I'm actually satisfied with, given the last 2 weeks and I now have a benchmark for the next 5k and hopefully I'll get closer to my PB.

    Yeah, that was really enjoyable.

I got in at 20'24, which is a PB, this being my first 5k race. Lovely morning for it.

+1 on the well done Rathfarnham comment.

    And i got a watch! I'm delighted!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,111 ✭✭✭peanuthead

    I got a watch too!!

Though my dad walked it in 50mins and got one too, so I think everyone got one!!

I finished in 30mins. I am really happy with that as I'm relitively new to the running and haven't ran at all since 10 miler as college is so demanding.

    Well done all!!

I thought I had missed out on a PB by a about 20 seconds or so. Turns out on checking my log that it was a bit closer than that.

    Today: 18:42.73
    PB: 18:42.11

    (times according to my Garmin)

Now I'm annoyed with myself. :D

Great race nice conditions and good organisation. Getting boxxed in at the start messed my sub 16 up. Finished just over 16 minutes. If only I had my watch before the race :)

I think Mark Christie won in 14:18 so not by a long shot. He was 100m ahead after the first kiloemeter. Still it's next to impossible to compete with that quality.

Well done everyone who took part.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,762 ✭✭✭✭ecoli

Blew up bad first race of the season got a little too excited being nearly 20 sec inside my target time for the mile with 4.41 way too fast and ended up trailing home in 17.13 still better to get that out of the way before novices next week

Oh!! thought the winner did it in 16!! Was so wrecked I obv wasn't listening properly!
Still though, its a great time, just about half mine!! Well done

Great event and the weather was very kind, ideal race conditions. Did it in 19:34 which is 18secs slower than last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭guerito

I had to sit this one out as my foot's still buggered. Was hoping to break 20:00 for the first time, too. :( Sounds like a great race, though. Congrats to everyone who took part!

Anyone know if there are any more 5K road races coming up soon in the Dublin area?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,915 ✭✭✭✭menoscemo

Great race, delighted to get in under 22 minutes 21:54. It's a PB but also the first time over the distance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭chinguetti

Did it in 19.32 so a bit slower than i hoped but did the first km in 3.30 which was way too fast for me and killed me later on. Must have been the rush of blood to the head when i saw George Lee at the start:D
