Hi, (mods move this if not in the right place)

I train 2/3 times a week for soccer with the local team. The session is fairly demanding but at the end of each session, the trainer gets the squad to try to do 2 laps of the pitch in 2mins. Now, ive no problem in participating in this if it is in the middle of the session but he is keen on doing it at the end.

Does this actually help you or is it just a possible way to get injured?

    Thanks in advance :)

After these two laps do you do a warm-down? It could be just part of the session?!

How demanding is the session? When the 2 laps shout comes in at my training it is because the manager/trainer feels people were coasting through that particular session..

IMO it is hard to say you would get injured from these two laps. There are a lot of things in football you can get injured from. It just depends..

I always found that doing these fast paced laps were a great way to increase fitness. To be fair its not like he has you banging out ten laps after training.

No, he doesn't do a warm down with the team, only a few do it themselves.

The training lasts for roughly an hour and a bit. Sorry, didn't mention, we train on a lumpy field. We were stuck for a place to train and one of the lads said we could use his field! ;)

For a team trying to build up their fitness, would doing laps at a slower pace (jogging) not be better for building it up?

your going to be sprinting after the ball on the pitch no point in joggin other than warm up warm down etc

True, but he doesn't do a warm down with the team, the training is just finished after the 2 in 2
