    Hi all
I'm a 26 year old female, 5 ft and about 54 kg. I've recently put on about a half stone and my diet is just gone mad so I really want to get fit and lose some weight and tone up if possible.
I've just joined a gym where I have the use of gym, fitness classes and swimming pool. I have my induction this evening but I also signed up for Body Pump classes every Monday and Wednesday, really like the sound of this class.
I had a look at the stickies so I did a big shop yesterday where i bought loads of veg, beef/chicken/fish, wholemeal and low fat everything!!
So does the following sound OK?

Breakfast: boiled eggs/weetabix with slimline milk and mixed fruit/porridge

Snack: ww/natural yoghurt with dried fruit mix/handful of nuts/fruit

Lunch: some kind of sandwich on wholemeal bread and some fruit/yoghurt

Dinner: veg with beef/chicken/fish + new potatoes/wholemeal pasta.

Snack: wholemeal ryvita with cottage cheese/low fat peanut
    butter/raspberry jam (for something sweet)

So does it sound like I'm off to a good start with this diet?
Is it best to eat before or after the gym?
I am slightly aneamic at the moment so don't have a huge amount of energy but I have started to take Iron supplements and with improving my diet also that should be sorted.
Also I'm not the best cook without a recipe in front of me so does anyone know where I can get recipes for low fat sauces for my dinner?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks!

    Miss Motivated,

Fat isn't bad for you. In fact, good fats (natural ones) are vital for the proper functioning of your body.

To go ridiculously simple on the whole thing, carbs are what are bad for you, generally speaking. Try to reduce these nad increase fats (such as nuts) and protein (meat at every meal) to help you out.

I hate to be the bad guy when someone comes on all motivated like yourself - which is a brilliant thing to see - but the low-fat brigade gets to me as products advertised as low-fat are generally high-sugar, so always read the label.

    Hope this helps,
    Colm

    Hi MM,

    Good advice from Colm there.

In a nutshell there are only two important food aisles in a supermarket.
Vegetables aisle and fresh meat/fish aisle.

The rest should only be entered sparingly.

your diet is a hell of a lot better than most peoples .. I would be carefull of ww type products though as they may be full of sugar etc ... as mentioned fat isnt bad but at the same time it is calorie dense so there is no problem using low fat products like milk or cottage cheese or natural yoghurt ... the only meal i would totally change would be lunch, you should have meat and fish and a lot of salad .. a sandwich might not be substantial enough ..
