    Hi all,

I had a decompression & discectomy done on lumbar spine 8 weeks ago.

Am looking for advice on possible ideas for getting back into fitness. Consultant advised swimming/ walking & pilates.

Not a very strong swimmer so am afraid I might be doing more harm than good. As well as this have whiplash injury in neck followting RTA so swimming tends to agitate this. Doing a good bit of walking but not feeling very fit.

Op seems to have been success but am still having some lower back pain.
Think I need to be more active but am fearful of hurting myself again.

Has anybody had any experience of this?? Any tips/ experiences welcomed!!
    Thanks in advance:)

    Hi KingJo,

For a situation like this, you really need to seek professional advice. Chronic low back pain is the most common thing I treat on a daily basis, and these cases really do require careful exercise choices implemented at the right points during recovery. People have the best of intentions when giving advice, but the wrong information can make problems much worse in the long run. Ask your surgeon/GP/health care professional what they would recommend.

    Regards,

    Brian
