So they can afford to build a new stand for the athletics track but yet, people still have to sit in pre-fabs for some classes.... and by building it they've taken away how many car park spaces! i cant see the logic.. my first week back last week and my time table was so messed up most people in my class called it a day by wednesday and didnt come in the last two days.. monday was slightly better but still being messed around a bit.

The prefab and timetable situations is a joke but the athletics track is co-funded by Cork County Council and as far as Im aware they are paying for the stand. Take whatever you can get in my opinion. About 60 car parking spaces have been removed temporally during construction which should be free again by November.

Pay parking will be brought in on 7th Oct next to the astro turf pitch. It is planned to charge 1c parking during Oct while they test the system and then increase it to €3.

It really is a joke. My 4th year construction management class are particularly stuffed these last two weeks with four different timetables which change almost every day.

The worst thing is that, going into the 3rd week we still haven't been assigned lecturers for our dissertations. This should have happened last week or early this week

Take it from someonwe who has been to both CIT and UCC, CIT is very poorely run....it's a shame because some of the lecturers there are outsanding but demoralised

That's very true. My course in particular (Construction Management) has fantastic lecturers but they are all pretty much demoralised because they are understaffed in comparison to the course that runs parallel to it (Quantity Surveying), and when a position is available, whoever is in charge fills it with a lecturer that has a background in Q.S.

They are also demoralised because the department head doesn't even take notice of their requests. For example we have to do a project that runs the whole year, and the lecturers wanted 2 aspects switched, one part we do after xmas is an aspect of a hand-up that we do before xmas, and he didn't even call a meeting.

Thankfully this is my last year and hopefully I'll get my 1.1 or 2.1 and won't ever have to come back.

de building of the stand for the running track is fair enough because people like to watch the sport!!!! but i personally feel they should be building more eaten locations because once 1pm hits de canteen is so full and there is no where to eat!!!! at the moment studends can sit outside as the weather is fine....but where will they all go when the good irish weather hits!!!!

    wud u rather
    A) watch sum1 running
    B) be able to park ur car without it gettin hit wth a jcb
    C) have a proper class room
    D) have a student bar
    E) tell the college to cop the **** on

thers no need for that stand.. as far as im concerned its purely to make the college look better for visitors

It's a complete waste of money considering there are still classes going on in those prefabs... it's an absolute joke

The fact that a 3rd level institution even HAS prefabs speaks volumes, it's a joke. I'd refuse to be taught in them if they put me in them. uck that, I paid to go to college not sit in the car park.

My class were always out in PF52 in the freezing weather. No rads working or anything. It was hotter outside. One my lecturer's office is in that block unfort and he took photos of mushrooms growing up through the carpet. The big fungus ones.

Yeah true, think most people are the same. CIT is depressing enough without the rain!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 123 ✭✭smileygirlloves

thats it is:) but i think it will get worse when it starts raining outside because there is not enough space for people to eat at the moment....and when all the people who eat outside at the moment come in ......where will they go?????

Ha yeah that's true. That canteen would do so much better if they left people into the Atrium like they did few years back. They'd serve twice as many dinners I'd say!

the construction of cit is lik a maze!!!! they just put prefabs or build new facilities where every they manage to find an area of ground....to cope with growing numbers!!

Did you know the actual main building was intended as a temporary building while they build a real building! - hense the Single glazed windows.

Did you know that the design of CIT's old campus comes from the drawings of a prision!

all the class rooms are just cells minus a few walls and the lecturers offices are actual cells

    Mr. Denis Coveney... Legend....

Has he started telling stories about himself and Mary yet??

I'd say one of my lecturers would be up for the revolution too. He quite frequently goes off on all the ways the college has wasted money in the past and about the goverment wasting money. He manages to tie it in with our lectures sometimes though :)

Its now an "exam hall" even though exams are prob only 4 weeks in a year! I think they will be opening it up more though.

    for bollocks sake.

the only reason that I could think of is that a loads of labs/classes face down to it and the noise used to be mental but an "exam hall"??

There was often not enough room with them both open, in the first place.
I am hearing some silly decisions coming from there of late

All colleges need to spend money on their facilities in order to attract new students. Don't UCC have the Mardyke??

The clubs and societies are what make college interesting.

CIT aren't the only ones using the track, many athletics clubs from around Cork use the track.

The athletics track is an international standard track and the new stand will make the possibility of holding college intervarsities on the track a possibility.
