I sent the below to m_s_nixon and oscarBravo a couple weeks ago but got no reply ( in know they are very busy)
But anyways in relation to the marketing.....
    Guys,
Im sending this via PM because i really dunno if anything will come of it......

    Long story short is that i have a mate that is at an editorial level in the New of the World. I mentioned to him about the look launch to get some extra coverage and he told me;
I'll do my best to get something in in the next few weeks - are there any especially unusual pictures or photographers? My editor hates charity things but if you can think of anything quirky or unusual, I'll do my very best.

So is there anything in the book thats quirky or unusual?
I told my mate that the standard will be massively high and at the launch loads of edjits dressed up in stupid santa outfits......!

Just recieved my book today. Standard of photos in that are top class. Absolutely stunning photobook, really looks the business!

Dammit, why didn't I plump for super speedy delivery? Hubby and I were both in it so I was buying two copies and trying to keep costs down, but I really regret it now :(

Edit - scratch that, they came today! Now if only the baby would let me read it ;)

I'll be ramping up the SSF marketing this week (presuming some family matters get cleared up :( ) and will make the Photobook a part of that.

So far so good!! Looking forward to the launch...

Loads of eejits dressed in stupid santa outfits...

    Speaking of which...

I still have all the costumes from last year - who's in? Should I bring them to the launch? I'm thinking there's no harm anyway...

Guys 'n' gals.... its very likely I wont be able to make this now as my father has been in hospital here in Malta for the last week. He's out today but wont be flying back until the 1st and I'm likely to stay here with him .... you peeps have been playing a blinder anyway and Dav and Darragh can help with anything official or PM me here as I will have internet the whole time. Really sorry to be missing this but duty calls... :(

Who said you were invited anyway? ;)

Seriously .... It's a shame you will miss the Launch but family comes first. I dare say there will be one or two photo's taken on the night.

    'The Book' landed this morning.

Bravo to Oscar for the production work, the photos are fantastic and you've given them a superb setting.

Thanks to everyone once again for contributing to this fantastic project.

I've ordered 10 books for spares for the night, if they dont sell I'll certainly take them as I havent ordered mine yet (due to these extras being available). I'll sort out the costs of that when I'm back on the 1st.

Really wish I could be there as launch last year was really one of my favourite memories of Boards :)

I agree. The book is fantastic - in fact really difficult to pick a "best of the book" (slightly wrecking the head here) so the question is now, with such a great effort made, how can we sell a truck load of them?

The number of images is less than last year so we starting from behind when looking year on year at it.

Come on, ideas and actions folks!

If there's a softcover available for sale on the night, can I put my name on it? Ta.

Yea. Mine arrived today. Great kudos to all involved. It looks great. A lot of fabulous images in there.

Now roll on the 28th for the party :D

whats the protocol for sat night guys? What times it kicking off at? do we just collect our books there? will there be coldcuts?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

I haven't seen an info all over boards yet about the launch - like last year. Maybe that's possible to arrange?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I'll do that today, can someone point me at the exact details??

    DeV.

There's been no word back from our marketing team on this. Having talked to CabanSail and Xia, I think were looking at a :

7.30pm kickoff with the Boards Book launch from the Dublin Camera Club, on Camden Street.

    All are welcome.

Should I bring the santa suits and beards again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,155 ✭✭✭PopeBuckfastXVI

Hi all, just ordered my copies of the book. Blurb was a bit difficult though, it didn't let me order without signing in to my blurb account, when I hit 'add to cart' when I wasn't logged in it just took me back to the main book store page, didn't ask me to log in or give an error.

I hope this doesn't hurt sales.

Unfortunately we have no prints to hang on the wall from the book, however there is an exhibition currently on display in the gallery. I would think we should make the effort and dress up christmasy for the occasion. It would be great if everybody made the effort. :D

If we can get all the images burnt to a CD then we can turn the large monitor around and have the images being displayed that way.

Should we try to reserve some space at Devitts for later if people want to have a few more Beers there?

I think that the Santa Suits are a good idea Sinead. Do you have any of those cheeky Miss Santa Outfits too? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

    lol - sorry - no :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

I *DO* look well in a beard though ;)

I'll do that. The original book resolution should be fine, yeah? Any special format the CD needs to be in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

I don't think I have anything christmassy to wear but do my best. So if anyone has a spare hat...Not sure how I would look like with a beard though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

And don't worry about the exhibition in the DCC, pictures in our book are much better. Nothing against calendar pictures, but I really was not impressed by them.
    Boards Year Book rocks!!! :D

The Screen is a large Philips LCD Monitor.

We just have a DVD player which then plays Jpegs in a loop. I think that is limited to a bit over 100 images so we should be fine with what we have.
