I'm not exactly doing computer science but my course has most the CS modules in 1st year so I'll just pretend I am for the sake of it.......flame away!

Me! Shall be going to the Sports tour thing at 11, and will be fervently trying to figure out who the fellow boarsies are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭boblong

Me :) don't know if I'll be going to the sports tour but I'll be around tomorrow morning and afternoon.

For TR033 it is, other courses will have it at other times during the week - so yours may be a different day.

We need armbands. I was there lol.

A fairly demoralizing day, didn't really meet anyone. I guess I'll try again Wednesday.

I can empathise, however I didn't raise my hopes in the first place (I'm very shy when it comes to meeting loads of new people). After the first few days I'll probably settle in.

The armbands idea isn't too bad, maybe the board members in CS could organise a small gettogether, at least then we'd know who's who!

Did you guys find the Netsoc and DUCSS stands today?

Talk to those at the stands and hang around them and you're sure to meet other CS/B&C students.

Netsoc goes to the pub at 5ish each day, find us when we're packing up at 4ish and we'll let you know where we're going, or just hang around with us while we pack up and head to the Netsoc room and then to whereever we're going. If you help pack up and carry stuff, drink may be bought for you....

Well then, we should try to make some plans for something in the near future. It doesn't have to be much in the scheme of things, I just think it would be a nice way to get to know oneanother.

Everyone knows CS and sports don't mix.

Everyone knows CS and sports don't mix.

 I would disagree. There is a minority actively involved in sports clubs.

    Don't go encouraging stereotypes now!

For the orientation meeting tomorrow, maybe we should all try to meet up and go together.

Sounds like a good idea, since I would presume most if not all will be heading to that. That meeting starts at 2pm, so perhaps we could get together around 1pm or so. I'm not quite sure where would be handiest (still figuring my way around the place), so if someone wants to suggest a spot that would be most welcome!

What about outside the arts building at 1ish? It would be less hectic than around the main gate but still isn't exactly far away from everything.

Ooh, I might have seen you then... I'm on the Pirate Party stand which is right beside DUCSS (no plug at all, oh no).

Sounds fine to me, if we say just outside the arts building at that green patch called Fellows Square unless you meant the Nassau Street side, yes, had to look that up) 1pm ish. Somewhere around there would be good, I shall have a small rucksack on, and might wave that orientation booklet around to distinguish myself so we don't have to walk around asking "Are you from teh internets?". Probably will end up asking that though!

I'll jump in on this too. Sounds good to me. So basically, at the green area outside the arts building, around 1pm. Is there some sorta monument to make it more distinguishable?

I don't know if there's much around there which could be used as a landmark, or if there is I can't remember one, perhaps I'll try standing at the nearest corner (of the green area). However as I said before, I can try and wave about my Orientation booklet if all else fails, we'll probably notice oneanother though - but I'll resort to that if needs be.

I'm doing CSLL. It's not TR033, but I didn't want to bother starting a whole new thread for (I presume) a very small number of people...

    Anyone else doing CSLL?

what do we actually do at the orientation meeting? do they show us our classes?

Orientation? Well its just a talk on your tutor (who you should go see, DEFO DEFO DEFO), the chaplaincy (free lunch!), student support - Niteline etc., the Health Centre, Swine Flu and the Student Union (they do a campus tour after and then free lunch in JCR). (can't remember the rest). Oh and a video tour of the campus which actually confuses you even more ! ! You should go just so you have an idea of things and you might meet other people from you course (or you might not).

(Taken from freshers week attendance thread)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭nDakota

i should really email my tutor soon so
