I see lots of you giving great advice so hope someone can offer me some wisdom!! I really want to lose 8 to 10 pounds. Although my weight is in the normal range all my excess fat falls on my hips and stomach, serious love handle situation :-) Is it possible to lose this amount through exercise alone?

Diets don't really work for me and in the past I've had issues with food so don't want to fall into a pattern of restrictive eating, I feel exercise is the way to go. I'm female, 20, 5"9', 143 lbs, light smoker and I have access to a swimming pool and gym. Any advice would be hugely appreciated even if you think weight loss isn't possible, I'm trying to get my fitness back after my 2-and-a-half year break from competitive sport that has been replaced with trips to the pub!! Thanks :)

Have you thought about taking up a sport again? Squash, tennis or golf maybe? You may have more of an interest in the gym if you can reflect your progress directly by playing a sport again, even if it's not as regular as your previous sports activity.

When I started with everything a few months ago the last thing on my mind was diet. I just thought its all good go to the gym and eat what I want and it'd all fall off but then realised diet is the MAIN part of it. I'm far from being on a diet but by cutting out the **** it works.

I find i'm actually eating more but better now and it works. Dieting doesn't have to involve starving yourself but just cutting out the ****. You can eat as much if not more when its "good" food
