Best looking cars

Hi. Im looking to buy a new car and the most important thing to me is its appearance. ( stupid I know) Im looking through car websites and its tedious trying to find a nice looking car so I was wondering if anyone could suggest any nice looking cars to me so then i can just type make and model in. I like cars like the audi tt. As well as being nice it has to be small, not too small or anything just not really big like some saloons are. I would probably prefer a coupe or hatchback I think. I dont know much about cars. I also need a diesel because petrol is so expensive.

if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Not sure of your price range but this would be my choice:

    BMW Z4
    Alfa GT
    Alfa Brera
    VW Scirocco
    Fiat 500
    Mini Cooper

Right so, you want a sporty looking coupe or 3 dr hatch diesel then? Price range please!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,411 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

It is pretty difficult to pick a car for someone else based on appearance. What I might find to be a good looking car could be totally unappealing to you or someone else.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Il start looking them up now. As for price dont worry about that. Il worry about that later. If I cant afford the best looking car now Il aspire to it sometime. Yeah a sporty looking coupe or a hatch diesel is what im thinking about.

They are really nice cars but I actually want a diesel cos they will guzzle petrol.

Alfa GT and VW Scirocco are both available in diesel.

I think most of these can be had as a diesel. not the mini though.

Theres only petrol mini's? You'd think a car so popular and built by BMW would have a diesel version

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

If you're worried about the cost of fuel why are you not worried about the price? What's slick now could be muck by the time you can afford it. You would get much better suggestions if you can give us a guideline price.

    more suggestions...

    BMW 3 series coupe
    BMW 1 series coupe
    VW Golf MK 6 GTD

If I see a really nice car Il take a loan to afford it. I worry about the cost of fuel due to the upcoming budget and the fact I will be doing heavy mileage.

Why not take out a loan for the fuel too then?

I think an R8 diesel would suit you nicely sir!

First 8 suggestions were good, and while beauty in the eye of the beholder, No way could you consider teh new golf a good looking car.

The merits or other wise of golfs is a totally different issue, which i wont get into but i wouldnt put it in the nicest 50 cars on sale in ireland today.

For what its worth my mates father bought the new Passat CC, took it for a quick spin, nice drive but a truly beautiful car in the flesh, and would be comfortable, powerful and perfectly suited to high mileage, particularly the diesel (2.0l turbo i think)

The OP's only criteria is that the car should look good! And this is what you come up with??? The only thing about attractive thing about these cars is badge. 3 of the most mundane yet ugly cars on the road.

Since price is obviously not a factor of worry for the OP, can I suggest a Morgan Aero 8 / Aeromax?

    A beautiful car.

    Audi TT in diesel.

Fair enough the last two are stretching it a bit in the looks department but the 3 series coupe is a a good looking car IMHO

I think both the 1 and 3 series coupes are smart looking cars.

Wonder what the OP thinks...as that's the point, huh?

Diesel TT is a good shout - they are available aren't they? C30 Volvo perhaps?

    100k+ ?

All Aston Martins are lovely - probably the best looking cars on the road today. Not sure if they do them in diesel tho.

Personally I think the Maserati GranTurismo and Alfa Romeo 8C are the two best looking cars you can buy new. If your budget can't stretch to those then I think the BMW 3 Series Coupe/Cabrio or Z4 Coupe might be more realistic options.

Also my two favourite cars, might trade in for the masser next year

OP, consider an Alfa Brera or Spider or even a 159 if you want loads of space - if its looks you want you can't go wrong with an Alfa...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,753 ✭✭✭qz

OP this would be a hell of a lot easier if you told us what your budget is. Until such a time prepare to get answers you probably wouldn't want. For instance, I think you definately go for the Alfa 8C Spider.

OP - what's your budget and your annual mileage? How long are you going to hold on to the car? You might well lose more in depreciation than you would by getting a petrol instread of a diesel.

Of all the cars in the world on sale today I'd rate the feckin 1-series coupe about the ugliest, even worse than the 1st gen Multipla. It's the most ill-proportioned car in existance.

VW SCIROCCO!!!!! what a nice car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,570 ✭✭✭rebel.ranter

This is a strange thread. Just goes to show that you should not rely on a forum to give you the right answer, even something as simple as saying there is no Mini diesel when a simple Google will tell you otherwise...

Anyway OP this is a pointless request, in order for someone to make an informaed decision they must have some information on the the decision they are making. It is the equivalen tof me asking how long is the piece of string sitting on my desk here?

    - Engine size (is there a limitiation on what you can insure?)

    - Maximum road tax you would be prepared to pay, for example a diesel Land Rover Discovery is €2,100 a year so being diesel doesn't necessarily mean cheap tax. (only cited LR Disco to illustrate a point, I am not for one minute saying it is nice looking)

    - Annual mileage, high mileage to you may not actually be high mileage. There are certain situations where in the long run it may be better to go with the petrol equivalent of the car is the better option. If you are not doing enough mileage it may actually cost you more to run a diesel, diesel variants normally have a purchase price premium over an equivalent petrol model.

    - Maximum budget for purchase. Maybe state the two budget options you have, straight cash buy & what you could pay with cash plus loan top up.

    - Maximum age of the car you are willing to buy, also the maximum mileage you would accept. If you are doing high mileage then you probably don't want to start off with something that has already got too many miles on the clock.

Now that I have peed off one or two people I should finish the post!

OP hopefully you will get the answer you want, in short the more detail you provide the better the answer you will get.

Good words rebel.ranter.... that post had really moved off its original topic into a case of the proverbial dreamer's post.

Post #10 byMCMLXXV also made a good point.

Looks is a strange criteria to base your principal decision on, as if a designer hits the style button right on the head this year, it can go out of fashion. That's the thing with 'style'... it's based on attitudes right now... and these have a tendency to change quite regularily.

An example of this would be the 'new beetle' which had a certain kind of nostalgic cosy familiarity to them when they first appeared.

Having evolved from a global iconic automotive phenomenom it brought smiles to many faces and made others feel warm in different places... but when I see them out and about now they look like something from some hollywood animated movie. - maybe that's just me.

... Enjoyed this thread... very funny

Again.. would have to agree whole heartedly. Was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the OP's question. Back then of course I had assumed we were thinking of normal affordable cars within the price range of the working man.

I would need to take out a mortgage to afford that car. I would love it though:) Its one of the nicest looking cars I have seen.

I better be a little bit more specific with the price:rolleyes: I mean a car that normal people could afford. I cant give much more of a price range cos Im not sure. As for other specifications I will take them into consideration once I see how nice the car is. Thanks for all the suggestions. I never realised there was so many nice looking cars.

To another poster I hate the beetle too and the mini cooper. I also hate the brand of bmw for some reason. I wouldnt go for a merc either.

New Beetle is a terrible terrible design. It could not be called attractive - and was slated for its looks at launch. It may however evoke nostalgia & some might like it for various reasons, but it is not a thing of beauty.

Let me make it easier for you - what is the maximum amount of money that you are willing to spend?

The black isn't great on it tbh.
I have seen one on the road in silver and it did look nice though.

That nose though, seriously the worst looking part of the car and I can only imagine how it KILLS what little it had in handling anyway.

€104 to tax, and easy to park. doesn't meet the "good looking" bit though...
