Do you care about about being funny?

I've just had a mate block me on MSN because I said he wasn't funny (I'm wittier than him.. that's not cocky; that's the truth... he has the sense of humour of a mushroom/Lee Evans but thinks he's bloody Peter Kay [when he was good]).
    (23:10) ›› . . .т σ м:im sorry, you're hilarious
i have to bow down to your superior wit

    (23:11)(*)Seamus(*) is now Offline

Anyway, yes... I'm sure a lot of people on AH are bothered about whether they're funny or not. Are you?

P.S. And yes what I said was cuntish, but believe me, it's been a long and miserable night

You don't have to put up with him.
He's about as funny as AIDs with the personality of Brian Cowen.

You know those people who's only laughs come from themself? "Hurr hurr"

Some people are, some people aren't. Depends what bothers certain people. I am a very easily bothered person: soccer results, Gaelic results, any perceived slight against my person (whether genuine or not), anything to do with poker/gambling, etc. all have the power to make me bristle and react with anger and get very defensive... But not whether someone finds me funny or not!

That said, I've been told I'm very hilarious and fun to be around... this despite being notoriously short-tempered and generally quite cynical and caustic!!! Maybe some people get a kick out of that....:D

But your friend sounds like he has a very thin skin and probably bruises easier than a Champagne grape. I wouldn't worry about it.

I laugh my ass off at my own posts when I look back at them.

But then I see no quotations, +1s, lols or thanks so I just assume I'm unappreciated.

Wow your friend's acting a little girly bitch. No offense...

Saying "you're not funny" isn't a nice thing to say if you mean it upright...as it's a statement about their personality and themselves as a whole. It's like saying "I think you're an ugly mong" and meaning it. But I'm sure you just didn't say it like that, eh brummy? You seemed to be fairly jokey.

Then again, blocking/ignoring is a girly thing to do and breaks the guy teenager code of laughing it off but actually being offended by it and thinking of it over and over.

I have one of those, she explains jokes :/

Being funny just comes natural to some people and not others. I wouldn't say it's important to me to be funny, but it's a huge part of who I am at this stage. (/proper answer)

And I never give proper answers Tom, feel honoured ;)

No offence taken, he is a girly bitch. I'm still sure he's queer. His girlfriend used to think the same before she ****ed him.
But she looks like a man, so I still think so

And no, that's not wishful thinking.

It was said jokingly, but I was telling the truth at the same time. Nothing I say's ever serious, everyone that knows me knows that

It's not really imortant to me whetere I'm funny or not because I think there are enough funny people in my group of friends and it can get a little tiresome when something happens and everyone just has to have a stab of being hilarious.

This happens a lot on after hours, there are some genuinely hilarious people here and then a bunch of people trying too hard who instead should be trying to actually add to the discussion and the leave the comedy to those who are funny.

Then why do you really care what he thinks? Easily offended, moany people are more bother than they're worth...unless they're hot. Are you sure your not more than friends with him brummy?

EDIT: MSN is a ****ty place to be witty though, especially with girly moany people, as they can be abit dramatic. You can't "block" someone in real life, and if they storm away...that just screams girl trapped in fellow's body. Unless he knocks your jaw out and is running away before he's chased down by your hard friends.

Im supposedly the funny one in my group of friends. But im also 'supposedly' (emphasis on the 'supposedly') the bitch too..

*meh* i dont care.. (that sounds kinda bitchy the way i dont care about being a bitch )

but im more cooler then my friends coz of my funny-ness . God, i kinda sound like a bitch!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 324 ✭✭~me~

i'm not funny at all (bar the occassional joke) but it doesnt come naturally and witty like other people. i dont care though cause i think it makes me appreciate other peoples funiness, like if i was funny and witty all the time then if someone else made a joke i wouldnt really find it funny cause i coulda thought of it myself!
and also, for every funny person there needs to be someone to actually laugh at the joke so i'm appreciated for that, i dont need to be witty!

I'd rather be unfunny like I am than be like someone who tries way too hard to get laughs.

You see that a LOT here on boards. You know who you are. It just gets tiresome.

This one's still slightly better than the one about egg puns/boardsies in real life.

Give it a few years and my threads might actually have some substance :D

    I feel so ill.
On the other hand, I had a drunk bloke in the pub last night dance round me with a teatowel on his head singing some Bhangra riff.

Not disagreeing there. It's more the gimmick-style posters and people who are blatantly doing it for the thanks that annoy me as opposed to the genuinely naturally funny people.

I just don't like forced humour, really. Kind of why I can't stand Will Ferrell or Jim Carrey. The whole "LAUGH AT ME! LAUGH AT ME!" thing is awful.

    Isn't that scripted though?

Ask them to be humorous within one minute of replying to a thread they didn't know was coming their way and they would fail.

Now if it was Robin Williams we would be laughing so hard we wouldn't be able to thank the post.

I'm an infrequent user of boards.ie. Can be identified by my username.
Anyway, your question about how people react to being told they're not funny?
Your reply to my initial post suggests that I struck a nerve; perhaps this gives you some insight into your friends reaction?
    No offense meant.

Kind of my point. Forced, scripted, planned humour (a lot of that here) has no appeal to me. I love Robin Williams and people who are genuinely funny naturally.

One of the reasons I love Ireland so much is that the people here do naturally have incredibly quick wit.
