Great as usual, you always seem to be at the right place at the right time! I saw it flying over Oranmore yesterday and today in that direction alright

good stuff - they are bigger choppers than they use for retrievals here in Oz - but it is the coast guard search and rescue with longer range rather than the drop down at a crash scene/ pick up from a small hospital setup.

New contract out for tender is looking for small range helicopters for medivacs and winching, keeping one or two of the medium range S-61's for SAR in the Atlantic.

Is that our guys? If it is perhaps its going to go along the lines of HM CoastGuard and use AW139's? Same outfit ( CHC ) if im correct?

Is that tender document released yet? I haven't seen it. It'll be some interesting reading.

No I havint seen it either yet but I would expect euorcopter or similar short range for Dublin and Waterford and the S61 or a similar size medium range for Shannon and Sligo which will also have the short range helis. That was the talk anyway, but it was only pub talk with the small man from above;).

Major money for this tender. Would expect CHC to retain it to be honest. if anyone sees the tender post a link. I looked afew times on etender.gov.ie but couldnt see if.

Yes I know it's completed in HQ and is ready to be issued and I'd say you're right in the heli selection and the contractor although you never know. The S61 is finished now anyway so it'll be interesting on the selection of the models to be used. The crews will be sorry to see the S61 go as it's one of the best workhorses around even compared with the newer craft.

Sure we'll all be sorry to see it go buddie, it was a great aircraft. I suppose the sea king would be a close contender. Hard to tell really what they will go with.

We'll just have to see what happens. It you see it, be sure to post info....if its in the public domain.

    Here you go http://www.e-tenders.gov.ie/search/show/search_view.aspx?ID=FEB113880

It has been out for a while now, closing date for tenders are the end of October. I would guess it will be one type for Ireland, not AW 139. AW 139 being used in the UK at the mo, but not being considered for next UK contract (just not big enough). The UK contract is between the S-92 and Eurocopter 225.

An S 92 operated by Cougar Helicopters. Is this the future of Irish SAR?

CHC are using S92s in the UK, but I understand the AW139 has been withdrawn from SAR use, for some reason.

No Goldie, the AW139 is still in use on the south coast UK providing SAR, although there are some issues with it as I understand it, and will see out the current contract.
The SARH contract which kicks off in the UK 2012 is now down to two heli types and providers, the S-92 and the EC 225. The winner of that 25 year contract will be known by the end of this year.
