    Fecking Eternal Sonata!!

I knew i should've listened to Retro at the time and bought Valkyria Chronicles before this terrible JRPG.

Game looks amazing and has some nice tracks but the world feels very linear and barren. Enemies are basically the same design with palette change. Combat is okay at first until i starts being annoying waiting to defend during the enemy's turn. It felt like whack a mole, waiting for the guard icon appear to quickly press O. Also they're insanely tough if you don't grind and grind.

The voice acting is really terrible, especially the MOE character. Also the dungeon design is terrible. FORT FERMATA can go fcuk itself. I was and am so disappointed with this game. I really wanted it to be like a good JRPG like in good aul days on ps1/ps2.

    PSP Crimson Gem Saga.

Broken leveling system with terrible voice acting/script. Annoying difficulty spike. Fighting through a dungeon is okay and enjoyable. Didn't ignore any of the mobs. Didn't run away. Even did some grinding. Fight the boss and it takes out some of the party quickly. Kill boss but i have to fight another boss straight away without recovery.

Game uses a skill/spell tree for getting new spells as you level up. Good idea in WoW/diablo when its done right. In this its done terrible. You have so many points to spend to skill/spell but some are hidden. So you have to spend points to show what they are and then spend points to buy them. Half the time you waste points discovering that one branch of the tree is crap.

Finally, the main character looks like a fcuking gimp.

Honestly there were any number of games on the PS2 that I realised were rubbish only after I'd forked over money, but with the PS3 I'm wiser to the potential duds out there so I read reviews on every game before I buy them! Every game in my libraray is decent in my eyes!

One thing though, I got the demo for Valkyria Chronicles... I didn't enjoy it at all! Everyone raves about it, but I fount the combat to be seriously annoying!

The valkyria chronicles demo isn't a good indication of how the game plays out. I was a little disappointed with the demo but the full game is way more epic with more interesting battles.

Games I regret getting on the PS3 would be the games I got with the system. I got mine in Boston because it was cheap and then realised that there were no games onj the system that I wanted. So I got Armoured Core 4 which is **** and Virtua Fighter 5 which I never played more than once. I also got enchanted arms which I haven't even played and is supposed to look awful compared to the 360 version.

I also regret getting MGS 4 and playing it to completion because it was an awful game and a waste of time.

I don't regret any PSP purchases. I regret no playing it more but thats because the crappy battery life really annoys me.

couldn't stand motorstorm mainly after playing it and finding out it was one of the most over hyped games ever. and for psp well the game i bought was lumines which i wasnt mad about, but later i found out it was the exact version needed to downgrade the psp to 1.50, so ill let it away with it :P

Its **** on the 360 (i had it) so it'll be **** on the ps3. Still no decent JRPGs on the ps3. Sure there isn't many this gen on HD systems in the west. Only one i can think of is Lost Odyssey. Star Ocean 4 and blue dragon are suppose to mediocre. ToV, I'm not sure off. Probably have loads of MOE characters.

The handhelds seem flooded with SRPGs. :(

    PES 2008
    Dirt
    Killzone 2
    Folklore
    Dead Space

The only game i like on the PSP is God Of War CoO. The rest i have are pretty much awful.

I'm usually happy with my PS3 purchases, but Army of Two and PAIN annoy me most. The first one, I bought when myself and the housemate had finished Halo 3 and wanted another co-op game. Utter sh!te, traded it in after about two plays.

PAIN while slightly humourous at the start got a similar number of plays. When I realised I had to buy all these extra bits just to make it a full game, I quit it.

Far Cry 2 remains the one game that I bought that I really regret. I got sucked in by the hype and some good reviews. I found it slightly boring and the constant encounters with guards posts that I had destroyed previously really annoyed me. Traded it in soon after I bought it.

    Same as that.

The graphics are cool but the game did nothing for me. It's as repetitive as Assassins Creed. Gathering dust now.

For me though it has to be Unreal Tournament 3. I mean that games sucks as much as Halo 3 and that's saying something.

Yep, Far Cry 2. Same as above, it's too repetitive having to keep at the guard posts.

Downloaded ILuyshin 2 and DIRT2 demos last night. Glad I did, no interest in either. Probably would've bought DIRT2 but there's too many cut scenes and messing around with the motorhome area.

killzone 2, for some reason i bought it even though i thought the demo was sh1t. assasins creed and fifa 09.

Ah lads, I'm just about to play Far Cry 2, is it that bad?

Good post all the same...not getting into the whole PES v FIFA but I honestly don't like Fifa, its repetitive, most goals are the same, gameplay is slow and predictable.

Like one or two mentioned above I made a few gaffes on the PS2 but check games more thoroughly nowadays considering what you pay for them so most games are pretty good.

Anyone interested in a swap night, we're trying to organise something in Bettystown for games, dvd, cd, books etc checkout: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055684728

far cry 2 is ok - ish a bit Meh really , all the issue raised in the post so far are legitimate , the respawning , guardposts , the random truck fulls of guys that appear almost outta nowhere and seem determined to murder you , and no matter where u hide they can see you ......

    its worth a play , but i wouldn't expect a masterpiece

think Yahtzee said it best :D

PES 2008 for me. Surprised by the amount of stick Killzone 2 is getting, its one of my favourite PS3 games.

Grid for the PS3 is the only one.

Can i add in the entire Wii console? I knew it was a gimmick that would be pants, but still bought it! The annoying ads just make me loath it even more

    Valkyria Chronicles......
Heard all the hype from its japanese release, played the demo (which didn't really impress me much) but decided to grab a copy based on general opinion and reviews. Tried to like it, but its trash.
The story, the characters, the upgrade system, the battles, the torrent of nonsense in between each battle, everything.

This is just my personal opinion, before i get lynched by the valkyria chronicles appreciation brigade.

    Rrrrrrrrrridge Racerrrrrrrrrrr
Tis a humungous pile of ****!!!

Came with my PS3, not sure why I didn't just go for Motorstorm instead... (which is also pretty bad imo)

In fact, I felt like my PS3 was a massive waste of money until Ratchet & Clank came out

I was just coming in here to post the same. What a stupid game seriously who likes this rubbish. Its a NDS game no better and thats where it should have stayed. Poor graphics, poor scripting, poor action.

You have a little box with a guys head in it, he talks so you have to read a load of text but you have to press X to get on to the next bit so there is no flow. You press X next bit, Press X, Press X, Press X, and so on about 20 times. Then you finally get to a bit of action. You get your character move a bit shoot some one get into cover. The enemy is still shooting you even though you are in cover but you cant shoot him back or move !!!! Retarded. You have to select an other character same thing move a little shoot get into cover get shot while in cover but you cant shoot back. Pick another character move a little shoot the guy oh good he is dead. Then its the enemies "turn" so you stand there while the enemy moves around and shoots you. You finally get through it.

More pointless cringe worthy dialogue more pressing of X more "action" same bull but this time a tank comes and shoots you. You have to go back and start the whole boring rubbish turn based crap action sequence again. You do the same thing its just a stupid as you cant shoot back once you have shot once. You get killed. You take the disk out look at it with utter dissapointment put it on the counter to take and trade in tomorrow.

You then go on Boards to rant, have a cup of tea, calm down, go play Uncharted 2 where you dont take it in ****ing turns to shoot at each other.

This is a game you would expect out of the NDS not the PS3

    Why?

I thought it was a mess on PS3 vs XBox 360. Screen tearing ruined it...and the extra twitchy PS3 controls.

As an owner of both consoles...I've re-purchased on Xbox 360...and wow...what a difference! Looks stunning and plays much better. WTF!!!

Does it matter what system it's on? Valkyria Chronicles isn't a first person shooter. It sounds like thats what you were expecting when it's clearly a turn based strategy game.

No, i was expecting a 3rd person game, where Turn based tactics meets action packed real time shooting, where i could fight in 3rd person, real time battles. Like it says on the box.

    Not a pile of crap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭Victor_M

Kane & Lynch - Here's a tip, always be suspicious of a game that shows no picture of the actual gameplay itself on the back of the cover.

It's without doubt the worst game I've ever had the misfortune to own/play.

But it is turn-based tactics meets action-packed real-time shooting.

But it is turn-based tactics meets action-packed real-time shooting.

But its not, its turn based tactics meets turn based combat. With huge long boring interludes of really poor scripting & terrible animation.Thats if they even bother with the animation i lost all hope for the game with the NDS style of cut scene where they have two boxes a head in each no animation inside the boxes just text appearing below that you have to click through.

I have played turn based games before. Its not that this surprised me by being turn based it surprised me by being a really crap turn based game. Made even worse by the lack of any decent story, scripting, voice work, animation.

Its just a bad game. Final fantasy while i dont like it, i can see why people think its a good game.

Tis just my opinion of course ! on a game i bought but wished i hadnt and im kinda cranky today as well :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,894 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

So you were expecting Gears of War with a splach of turn based tactics? I think you didn't like it because you got a different game from what you expected. I was expecting Fire Emblem with the grid system removed and replaced with real time movement and thats exactly what I got.

Also the talking head cutscenes are popular in japan in these sorts of games and there's plenty of rendered and game engine cutscenes. I think they did really well with what was a small budget.

Also I've no problems with the story. I thought it told an excellent story, like an excellent saturday morning cartoon. Everything doesn't have to be doom and gloom and grey like Killzone. Thought the voice acting was fantastic and the script good if a little hammy. I had no issues with the animation, the game is stunning looking.

If you were expecting a game where you run around in third person mowing everything down and getting head shots then no wonder you were disappointed. It's a tactical game not an action game. It's basically the next evolution of advance wars.

i have always hated fighting games as i find them to boring and annoying, i get easily frustrated with them. for some crazy reason i bought street fighter 4 and i was soon reminded why i dont like fighting games.

    everything else has been great.

I posted about a year ago that I thought Far Cry 2 was a pile of sh1te and was lambasted by the fanboys. Nice to see that I wasn't the only one who thought it was a boring repetitive carppy game that sucked in a lot of fans of the original Far Cry (like me) by using the name "Far Cry" even though it had nothing in common with the original.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Haze which was an overhyped pile of crap. Jeez I played it to the end just to see if it could get any worse.

Surprised Killzone 2 has been mentioned as a poor game. While not very original, I thought it was a good shooter that i'd play again at some point.

    Probably Fallout 3.

Little Big Planet (PS3): Hyped out of all proportions. Played it once, never again.

G1 Jockey 4 (PS2): Thought it might be fun despite the bad reviews, how wrong I was. 20 minutes of gameplay was enough for me.

Worst game i've got on the PS3 (sorry noodler) Fallout 3. (was given it at xmas)

    It just "insisted" upon itself!
I was really looking forward to it and the voices were good graphics good, it just seemed to go no place i got really bored with it quickly. I didn't care enough! Just got annoying very quickly.

I haven't done too bad with the rest of them enjoy them all.

Psp worst game would be Midnight club, bought in an airport.

Ps2 so many games that were pants, got a loan of the hobbit, terrible. There has to be loads more!

Dead Space is awesome! Although you're entitled to your opinion, like. It was one of my favourites is all.

I'd agree with Killzone 2. That thing was so bland and clunky to me, with a terribly cliched script and annoying rather than threatening enemies.

I got Prince of Persia for a tenner, and it was not worth even that. Total disappointment, and I loved the first one on PS2. I felt like I was watching a cutscene followed by a QTE. Faugh.

Just thought of a PSP game I regretted buying. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. I only bought it because I had to do a review of it and had to get it out of my own pocket. It's not totally horrible just painfully average with a battle system that is way too easy and simple and a dumb story with some hideous dialogue.

Mine would have to be NFS: Prostreet..

What a pile of garbage that was. Granted I was expecting a lot after Most Wanted but prostreet was just terrible, and that darn yankee commentator... BAH!

Just saw a post saying Dead Space was crap - WTF????????

It is the only game that made me jump while playing it (although I;ve got a great a/v amp and surround speakers with a 46inch LCD tv to play it on!!!!). The storyline, graphics and sounds of people dying someplace on the ship resulted in the most immersive action/horror game I've ever played. Its my no. 2 game of all time after Uncharted with COD4 a close third.

I've tried to block it from my memory.

Another PSP regret is Every Extend Extra. Every Extend is a great free downloadable game and while EEE is great there just isn't enough content in it to be a full game I'm afraid.

Far Cry 2 remains the one game that I bought that I really regret. I got sucked in by the hype and some good reviews. I found it slightly boring and the constant encounters with guards posts that I had destroyed previously really annoyed me. Traded it in soon after I bought it.

I lent it to my brother. It's nice to set things on fire, and watch the flames burn things, but once you've done that, it's just trotting from savepoint to savepoint, with no story worth a damn.
