    Just noticed this.

Presumably £999 is the unbuilt price.

    Wow, great deal.

I still think the new Ultegra groupset looks crap, time to move to campagnolo.

I've been keeping an eye on this alright, didn't know it was today though. Hope they don't announce it and it's sold out before I get home!

Looks like the real deal at that PP. Other bikes have had the frameset but perhaps not the gruppo.

Not mad about new ultegra. Looks like they got a joblot of levers from campag. The calipers look like they were designed for an as yet unseen new wheel design. Shimano will push 6700 as the top cable gruppo.

If I didn't already have one I'd be very interested in this.

A word of warning. Ultegra cassettes bite in deep on PX Freehubs. Still a great deal though

I don't think it is particular to Ultegra hubs or PX freehubs, any steel separate-sprocket cassette will do the same to many soft aluminium hubs (my Ultegra cassette certainly did so with a DT Swiss 240s hub.)

I am tempted myself at that price, maybe I need an exceptionally nice winter training bike.

EDIT: No I don't. Get a grip on yourself man.

I think donning that Blue jersey (which looked impressive on the SK photos!) is gradually seeping into the genes :)

Got one! A friend was refreshing the website until around 11am when they updated the website.

    Not in pink though.

Now all I need is for PX to take the money out of my account while sterling is up at 90p/€1 again.

Nice one Dónal! :) Did they say how long delivery will take? Are you gonna build it up yourself?

I'm here debating whether or not to go ahead and purchase (lunchtime procrastination). I see there are no mudguard or frame mounts -- Does that mean I would have to use a set of those click-on mudguards, and the option of putting a frame on the back is null, as there isn't enough clearance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,833 ✭✭✭niceonetom

    @Dó;nal - congrats. :D

@shebop - it's a dedicated road bike design with no real concessions: tight enough clearances, no mounts for anything other than bottle holders. Race blades will work but be frowned upon. No racks.

It said it wouldn't be ready for shipping 'til the start of October. And Mr. Skeffington has happily agreed to be building it for me.

Disagree completely. Had a touchy feely of the chainset and levers today in Cyclelogical and it's pretty impresive and hard to distinguish from DA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

The shipping start of October is only if you went for the lighter lower spoke count Model B wheels. If you went for Model C wheels it should ship in the next few days.

According to the guy who confirmed my order... I am weak.

Fair enough, I haven't seen it in the flesh, just in the bikeradar review and it did not sit well on the pinarello they rode for me.

Guessing from their website it seems to be a limited stock offer as "250 people have already signed up". I'd say if you are sitting on the fence, you might want to make your mind up pretty soon.

Blorg, I have a limited stock of old playstation games, I reckon they will sell out by the end of the day. They are yours for 20 euro each!

I seem to recall advising Blorg to keep his Cayo for this very reason. The response I got was that he has a VanNichols tourer for that. So I too am very interested to hear the justification

It really is a smashtastic deal. Nice one Blorg. If that's your winter hack what's your summer racer?!

    It's shiny? Good price?

The tourer wouldn't really be that suitable for fast group rides (it is noticeably more effort) and certainly not for racing... To be honest I wouldn't even be overjoyed in a sportive with it. Also might be as well to have a spare in case the main bike is in for repair, packed up for a trip, etc. I presume you appreciate this with your Cervelo being out of commission (hope that is being sorted.)

Besides I have a spare good wheelset so makes sense to get a bike to put on top of that, right?

Basically this PX is the same or less than a carbon wheelset and I'll probably get more use out of it...

I have a Litespeed Archon which I'm very happy with.

The Planet-X comes with wheels. :pac:

You really need a TT bike for next year.

"I have awesome wheels so I need a bike to put on it"

Cervelo: yeah it's all sorted under warranty, just need to get the new frame

That Planet-X frame has to be one of the ugliest ever made; around the headtube its a total mess. Bikes should to be beautiful, even bargain basement ones. I think I'll give it a miss.

I already have a TT bike of sorts for popping to the local shop.

@el tel- I think it looks pretty good in the flesh and it certainly rides very well. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that. I reckon it will do me as my winter hack, if it gets me out on days I wouldn't like to ride my Litespeed it will have done its job.

    Loffit! :D

What was in the paper bag?

    Seriously though, hot ride!

Who buys a new bike before winter ? Its a turbo trainer and gym membership for me. Some of you helmet heads are crazy

@ Blorg - you really really need a recumbent, or maybe even a unicycle. Think of the fun of heading up Long Hill on a unicycle.

Well I bought a turbo on Wednesday, so I had to get a bike to go with it.

Kudos on the Litespeed, lovely weapon!

I got a look at a the Planet X today and must admit it's not too bad looking in the flesh, at least in the small and medium frame sizes. At the price iI'm seeing it as basically a groupset with a frame thrown in for a hundred extra so I could be tempted on that basis.

Question is, has anyone seen them in white and how do they look?

AstraMonti has one, in Images Of Beauty somewhere. Looks nice.

And a trike. Nothing says winter training bike like a 30kg trike with stainless steel mudguards.

Ta on the Litespeed, it is indeed a lovely bike to ride and I have put a crazy amount of mileage on it already. I have seen Astra Monti's white PX in the flesh and it looks great, nicest colour of the lot I reckon. (I have also seen the black, blue and ahem of course the pink- it works but only under Tiny.) I went for the black as I am a cheapskate (save £25!) and having a half-white carbon mountain bike I know what a nightmare they are to keep clean- so not ideal for a bike I intend to use over winter!

@DFD & ROK_ON- I would love a recumbent trike but they are too expensive.

@ Donal - well wear in the new bike.

With so many Planet Xers around, I can see a split occuring in Boards spins. Those with Planet X's and those without. Sot of like Peoples front of Judea and all that.

Of all the ones I have seen, the white is best. Black is just black, and well pink is interesting. But the white one is sweet.

Well I went with the blue! Personally I think it looks great... in the pics. Hopefully it'll be the same irl. Already thinking of changing the bar tape that comes with it.

I was going to go for the black frame and girly it up with pink tape etc. But wow ... the white has me speechless. Beautiful.

I seen the white frame in Madigan's in Carrickfergus and it was the colour I was going for only my heart got won over by the Titanium frame instead. Really, really nice but then that's only my tastes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

The Ti frame is lovely but not really in the same price range at all as the carbon one... heavier too incidentally.

In the carbon I do think the white is the nicest but it would be an absolute nightmare to keep clean, you would really want to like washing your bike.

    How to wash your bicycle

Haha, I know well how to do it, with the number of bike I have I do it often enough... I speak from the position of having a half-white carbon MTB, the frame is a nightmare to clean and every little bit of dirt stands out. Personally I don't think I would go for a white bike again for this reason...
