Inter Vs Barca CL Matchday 1

Undoubtedly the glamour tie of this round of fixtures, we see, rather ridiculously, the Italian champions Inter entertain Spanish champions Barcelona.

This is a huge game. Mourinho loves to beat Barca, Eto'o would only love to stick one up Pep Guardiola for shunting him out, the Inter fans will love to see Ibra fall on his ass and do frig all for the game, Ibra will love to score against his former club.

    Team news
    Team news
    • Inter
Out: Esteban Cambiasso (knee), Marco Materazzi (thigh)
    Doubtful: Dejan Stanković (flu)
    Suspended: none
Misses next match if booked: none

    • Barcelona
Out: Bojan Krkić (thigh), Rafael Márquez
    Suspended: none
Misses next match if booked: none

I predict a 2-1 win for Inter here. Eto'o will score. The vultures will be out for Barca after that no doubt, but the CL is not won on matchday one.

I'll have to watch this on a stream so hopefully I can get a quality one.

My prediction is a 2-2 draw. Ibra to score.

GREAT that Materazzi is out, means he can't kick shades out of the midgets in Barca, Ibrahimovic to get an indifferent reception (no booing, no cheering).

    Predicted line ups;

    Pornstar

    --Alves
    Puyol
    Pique
    Maxwell-

    Xavi
    Toure
    Iniesta

    ----Messi
    Ibracadabra
    Henry

    Cesar

    -Maicon
    Samuel
    Lucio
    Chivu--

    Zanetti
    Motta
    Muntari

    Sneijder

    Milito
    Eto'o

Eto'o will get a great reception at the Camp Nou, and I like that he is doing well, but I don't want him to score in this match at all. Sneijder is going to be key, as his quick distribution will be vital for Milito and Eto'o. Barca are going with their regular 4-3-3, Ibrahimovic is still getting back to full fitness, but his hold up play has been sublime, and I think he can set up Eto'o and Henry with a few opportunities.

I'll go with a score of 1-2, Milito(known to hurt Barca when with Zaragoza), Xavi, and Henry scoring. If Motta plays well I'll top myself, he was so meh for Barca, but manages to score a sublime goal against A.C a few weeks ago. Everyone is talking about Eto'o and Ibrahimovic, but Maxwell and Motta are two other players who have been at both clubs.

Can someone explain to me how this is a rather ridiculous fixture?

Surely the point of the competittion is these huge ties?
All over the board for the last month or so have been complaints about the perceived weakness of the teams involved in the tournament...but yet when two of the biggest teams in the world are pitted against each other, its labelled as ridiculous?

Do you people just like a moan, is that the problem?

Iv never really been overly impressed with Inters form in the Champions League, i can see Barca getting something out of this game. Score draw.

I just think that having the Italian champions in pot 2, while the likes of Arsenal and Sevilla, neither of whom are Champions, or have been anytime recently, are in Pot 1 is crazy.

I've no problem with it. Barca need to prove themselves against the best in Italy to remain the best in Europe. Simple enough really. The best thing about these matches is that even though Barca have a better team, the tie could quite easily go in either direction. Like the Lyon vs Madrid games a few seasons ago in the group stages, or Inter vs Bayern (if I remember correctly).

If this was in the knockout stages, what a match we would have though it still is easily the best match of the week. If Barca play to their best they will win and I think they will. Mourinho to lose his brilliant home record with Ibra scoring the winner.

Mourinho's home record doesn't stand in the CL mate, Barca beat Chelsea at the bridge in 05, he has also lost to Liverpool at home in the CL at the bridge if I remember correctly. Also didnt Man Utd win at the San Siro last season? :)

United drew nil all away to Inter last season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

No, it was 0-0 in the San Siro with Man U, so he may have been refering to a totla home record with Inter, rather than across the board?

Chelsea beat Barca 4-2 in 2005 in the knock-out stages at the Bridge and Liverpool won 1-0 on aggregate the same year with the goal or (no goal) being scored at Anfield (dont know about the Group stage). Plus last year it was 0-0 with Utd. Maybe it is an unbeaten home league record spanning around 7-8 years though.

Ah my bad, Barca won there in 05/06 2-1. Ya, I thought the record he was referring to was the home league record. Sorry!

It seems that Barca won't have much support at the San Siro tonight, only 400 have traveled.
Barcelona fans have stayed at home for one of their biggest games of the season so far as only 400 supporters have turned up for the clash against Inter.

According to La Repubblica, only a handful of Barca supporters have been walking around Milan ahead of the game with no more than 400 expected to be at the Giuseppe Meazza later tonight.

Reports suggest the famous Blaugrana Boxois Nois ultras group were ordered to remain in Spain by the club, adding to the lack of numbers.

The stadium sold out for the game and, unlike the Barca fans, Inter Tifosi have been arriving in their droves from all over the country.

With just hours to go before kick-off, the Giuseppe Meazza is slowly beginning to fill up with fans who are gathering around the stadium. Inter's various ultras groups have been inside the ground preparing the match choreography since this morning.

The atmosphere is building in Milan, but Barcelona players will no doubt be disappointed with the turn out from their supporters. The Blaugrana will be hoping to start the defence of their European crown on a winning note.

Muntari actually starts instead of Stankovic. Stankovic is on the bench so must have recovered from flu. Mourinho going for a bit of combativeness over flair. Same goes for Guardiola with Keita instead of Iniesta.

When's the last time Arsenal won a UEFA competition? Sevilla won the UEFA Cup two years in a row a few seasons ago.

Where is this on sky? ss2 is showing Arsenal and xtra is showing Ramgers. Not getting anything on either with the red button (I'm NTL if it matters)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It's ok now but at the start the audio was loud, then quiet and it was splicing between the Sky Sports commentators and German commentators.

Just happened again, it is really weird but hopefully they will have it sorted by kick-off. The atmosphere sound amazing, Ibra already been booed while warming up.

Too much sloppy passing going on. Ibra started off quite well but he hasn't done anything since.

You would swear we were watching a total bore going by the commentators. I am actually enjoying it. Inter are very disciplined in their shape, which a Mourinho team always will be. Ibra had a great chance early on for a screamer. probably a tad difficult to get it down under pressure though.

Hopefully we see a few goals in the 2nd half, and Henry shakes out of the malaise he seems to be in.

Barcelona having alot of the ball & probally had the better of the chances in the 1st half. Can see Barca nicking this by the odd goal.
