In an olympics kind of way*

OK Maeve you missed the target tonight! And there's nothing to suggest you won't miss it again.

Whoever said women aren't funny has certainly got a stronger case after this rubbish. But I'm a man, this show is aimed at women right. Surely they will see it too. :)

    I like it.

    Lilly's kinda cute too.

My missus heard her a few times on Ray (I'm a mediocre tw*t pandering to idiots) D'arcy's show & she actually thought she WAS retarded.

When I explained that she was in fact a "comediene", the better half responded with something to do about her being an "embarrasment to women".

I just think she's an embarrasement to herself. I don't know any women like her.

I'm going out on a limb and I'll say I find it more than mildly entertaining.
Quite ironic humour and shades of (I'll get mashed for this) Woody Allen.

I'll watch the 2nd programme next week and might deliver a more rounded verdict ;)

This is terrible, I thought the Byrne Ultimatum was bad but this is in another league of badness, I hope RTE have the sense to scrap both. Do RTE ever do pilot episodes of this junk before commisioning full series of it

Just caught a few glimpses of this. Usually I don't mind her too much but even the bits I saw seemed familiar. Hate the bloody intro tune too.

I agree, it doesn't come across very well on a tv show tho but her stand up is hilarious

I like it as well....I love her sense of humor, so different to other comedy on TV at the moment. I can see it would not appeal to everyone but maybe give it a bit more of a chance before knocking her so hard.

Woody Allen?? Now I can't have that said. Go and wash those fingers out Ian. They have betrayed you grossly tonight........

I really liked it, nice editing. Very gentle humour thats her style nice and subtle. Her style is never gonna be about making you split your sides laughing. Did anyone record it? If so can they post on a peer2peer site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭boccy23

Thought some parts were funny. Will follow it but not make a great effort to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

    And he's gone.

I've never found her funny but I'm not surprised that she got her own show, mediocrity gets rewarded again.

wasnt' as bad as i expected. didnt' laugh but didn't switch it off. was looking at watch with 10 minutes to go thinking this has gotta be on longer than half an hour. i'd watch it again maybe. lily was alright. i've never liked maeve higgins on radio but this might be better as standup which i presume it originated. never seen her live.

It may not split your sides. It will most likely not even make you smile or smirk.

Even so, if you really want to watch it again, it'll be on RTE's player on their website (usually their home grown programmes are posted up the next day, apart, sadly from The Premiership, due to copyright sh*te laws).

Remember this is the one who was lookking for a groom week-in week-out on Naked Camera. We knew what to expect.

Herself and Deirdre O'Kane are comedians me hole.

Utter trash, this is the reason I refuse to pay a tv license, I cant stomach the fact I'd contribute money to this crap being put on tv, I wouldnt call Higgins a comedian as thats an insult to the profession, a frumpy best friend left sitting on a couch at a house party with nobody to talk to is her shtick and she fails miserabley at it. Maeve you are not funny, not one humorous thing has ever been expelled from those lips in that horrible Cark accent, whoever comissioned money towards this should be sacked, and made to watch that episode on endless repeat until the atrocity of what was unleashed on the tv watching people of this country is fully understood by them, to think there are dozens of decent unheard of comedians in this country and this frumpy, unfunny cretin is allowed not only on stage but given her own show is a disgrace

I along with most people who will have heard her on Ray(the patronising little gnome) Darcey show thing she is about as funny as a crying baby.
I never liked her, think she is a gomey(Cork slang for an idiot who may be slightly slow), and im always completely stunned when i hear her on radio and tv as im left thinkin, who the hell put that tool on!!!

However despite all the above i kind of liked it last night, kind of!!!
Its was a different type of humour and i think it kinda worked. Ill wait til next week to make a final ruling on her but i will be watching which is more than i can say about Jasons Byrnes crime against television!!!!!

I dont find her particularly funny, especially on Naked Camera.

However, I liked the form of the program last night. Didnt see it all, but it showed some imagination away from the bog standard sketch show. Quite clever and not badly crafted. Especially for the first episode. Its clear that its character based rather than gag based humour and while its unlikely that we will be looking back on this as the beginning of a classic program, its a million miles ahead of Jason Byrne's masturbation festival of the night before. Type of program should have been on after news on 2 and allow it to get a little bit of a cult following.

That said, Fran on TV3 was funnier.

I like her ...sorta on Today FM...but last nite was awful....the remark about self harm was out of order....it was a JOKE !!!!...some might say...I dont think soooo...."Im just not cool enough"....
The show was just not cool....in my humble opinion....very poor and a little cringworthy !!

I didn't think she was too bad on radio..........

But then watching her last night was cringing. It's not often I feel akward for somebody on tv, but last night I was embarrassed for her.

All she was doing was repeating anything she said on the Ray D'arcy show, and saying it now on tv. It wasn't funny the first time, certainly wasn't funny the second time.

And I only paid my TV licence last week too. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

I don't believe that's half an hour of my life I'll never get back.

It should be cut from tv now before it does ireprable damage to her career. Or for that fact, maybe it should be left on tv:rolleyes:

Yeah, I tuned in waiting to be annoyed but stuck the whole thing with a little grin on my face for practically the whole show. She's got a nice dry wit and humour about her. People are saying it's a little cringeworthy, I think that's the whole idea, that you'd be embarrassed for this woman and how she goes about herself.

Quite enjoyable, I'll be watching it again next week.

The amount of bile and hostility on this thread is surprising. I agree Maeve Higgins is an acquired taste, but it seems to me many people here had made up their minds before even watching the programme. There is also a hint of anti-Cork bias (and I'm not even from Cork, nowhere near), and a strong dose of closed-mindedness.

For what it's worth, I wasn't sure about it at first, and I agree she can be a bit hit and miss, but I really think that Maeve Higgins at her best is some kind of bizarre comic genius.

..."how can you tell which one is the bum-mug?"

    It was car crash tv.

Jees I though RTE would know better than put that tripe on...

I thought it was good enough. I didn't split my sides laughing or anything but i did laugh a few times which is more than i can say for a lot of rte's comedy. some of the criticism here is a bit irish. her accent is her accent. if she spoke with the neutral or mid atlantic drawl people would be complaining too. At least its not a failed rip off of something on bbc. its an original format and style and the set looked good... fair play.
