Skyline/Philex receiver problem

Hi all...hope u can help. My sister bought a Skyline Sat kit and asked me to install it at her mobile in Tramore. Thought I'd get a little ahead before driving down so assembled the Skyline sat' before-hand and as I also wanted to get familiar with the receiver (Philex model 28212R) I Googled it but found a couple of issues people had with both the box and the lnb (lnb model #?). Knowing my own dish was aligned correctly I swapped my sky box with the Philex but got zero signal. (are sky suplied lnb's compatable with all boxes..are they universal) btw,Should Astra 1d and Eurobird 1 be specifically listed on the Sat list ? or are they under Astra 2b/e ?
Anyway, as my own dish is easy to get at I swapped my current lnb with the one supplied with the Philex kit.
So, sky dish-and Philex box and lnb----zero signal no matter what I tried.

When I set up the Skyline dish/Philex box and new lnb at the mobile still got zero signal so had use an old single sky lnb and Grundig box I brought as backup(still works after 7 yrs !) with the Skyline dish and everything worked fine--70% signal. (10 miutes for alignment--either lucky or did my homework properly)

I had reset the Philex box to default settings with no joy either.
If it's the lnb that's dead is there any way of checking it ? and should I have gotten a signal hooking the Philex up to my own sky dish/lnb ?
Could they both be dead ?
This is a big learning curve for a big hobby/interest of mine so thanks in
advance for any advice/thoughts you can give me.

    Mike

For most FTA boxes you need to tell them box which satellite you wish to pickup. In your case you are Looking for Astra 2 28.2e. It may also allow you to select Eurobird 1 28.5 e which you will also pick up some more channels.

    Hi Steveon....thnks for replying.
Couldn't find any specific reference to either Astra 2d or Eurobird 1 in any list so does the box need an update and if so how can I do it ?
Either way, with the dish aligned correctly I should still have got some kind of a signal reading though...shouldn't I ??

Press menu press instalation move down to satellite 43 press ok a Correct sign pops up press blue button set Nit to on, underneath that set scan to free. then press ok. that's your receiver set to Astra/Eurobird and to add transponders as it scans for free to air channels only that is if you are getting a signal.

Thanks Scaller..will try it when I get home but as you say...it all depends on whether I'm getting a signal or not...dont hold out much hope though.

The LNBs are interchangable (more or less) so swap out the existing Grundig LNB with the new one, and connect it to the Sky digibox.

Well, good news is the box is up and running so 'Apogee/Steveon' many thanks for your replies. Having reset the settings as suggested I was still getting no signal. Swapped out the lnb with one that my neighbour had just bought yetserday and still no joy so I suspected it had to be the box.I came across a similar problem on another forum where the problem was found to be the F-connector (more to the point the 2mm copper core needs to protrude MUCH longer for the female socket on the Philex box in order to make contact and power up...and I though they were all standard. Seems a couple of people found this to be the case for this receiver.
Anyway, all's well that ends well.
Now that I have a spare box maybe I'll try and see if I can hook up a 1 metre dish to get Fox Movies on 26e if it's possible ????

Fox Movies on 26e is no longer receivable in Ireland since it moved to a transponder on Badr 6. The other english language FTA channels on Badr 4 at 26e are OK on a 1 metre especially on the east coast e.g. Dubai One, MBC 1-2, MBC Max, MBC Persia etc.

Thanks Apogee..checked out the link to get latest update.
