Need a bit of advice on the most useful piece of gym equipment to invest in for home, improve fitness, etc; like the treadmill but obviously gets a bit boring; then again same could be said for cross trainer, etc; how about a rowing machine? Anything else which could be recommended? What would be a good price to pick these up at?;)

My money is on an exercise bike. They're quiet, maintenance free, comfortable and user friendly. You can stick it in front of the TV and practically sit on it for hours.

There's loads of them out there, I reckon you'll pick one up second-hand for under one hundred euro. If you like it, then buy one new to suit yourself.
Bigger saddle, better fitting peddals, comfortable riding position etc.

I would personally recommend a concept 2 rowing machine. Great yokes.

Get a pull up bar. This will allow you to do a fair few bodyweight workouts.

e.g. As many rounds as possible of the following in 10 minutes, where 1 rounds is:
    • 5 pull ups
    • 10 press ups
    • 15 bodyweight squats

or make up your own stuff:
    • x pull ups
    • x burpees
    • x bodyweight squats

    etc....
