Horse, I left my mobile in the downstairs shítter in Sir John Youngs in Sydney.

The monorail goes right beside it.

Any chance you'd check if it's there.

    Tks.

I traveled from the top of the west coast all the way through to albany in the south, then went back to perth and stayed there for 2 weeks. All the towns were just small with not much to do bar chill out on the beaches(which were lovely) and enjoy the scenery. Perth had some great bars but overall i found it a bit boring and there was a lot of angry abbos(dunno how this would compare to other big cities but id imagine itd be around the same).

wrong to be fair, parts of it are amazing especially the South West and North West.

I agree Perth can be a little boring as a tourist passing through but like any city it would be totally different to live there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,551 ✭✭✭SeaFields

I'm not saying don't party when your over there but don't get stuck in a rut.

I went for a months holidays there 6 months back. There's an element of the Irish working holiday crowd that spent (literally) all day, everyday inside in pubs.

Thats crazy because its a great country - they do everything so much better than us. Enjoy every second and see as much as possible. :D:D

And if homesickness ever sets in just consider what you would be coming home to - taxes, unemployment, high prices, etc.

    Enjoy yourself.

It's one of the most amazing places on earth. Back a year now from living and working in Sydney & Melbourne and then travelled around Oz.

East Coast - Great fun, some hightlights
    • Airlie Beach is a good place to get to the Whitsundays where you can learn to Skuba
    • Harvey Bay - Whale Watching
    • Cairns - White Water Rafting, get out to Great Barrier Reef
    • Fraser Island - Beautiful
    • Brisbane is lovely but I'd prefer to live in Melbourne. Jobs are better though in Sydney

Tasmania is spectacular, they're all inbred though so be warned :P also never seen so much road kill in my life!
West Coast is absolutely amazing. Prefer it to the East Coast.
Do a tour up the west coast, I'd recomment Planet Perth 10 day Tour. Best time of my whole trip & still in touch with half the people on it from all over the world.
Broome is awesome, Darwin not so much but the National Parks are definitely worth a visit.
    Finally,
Alice Springs is really cool. Do a tour with Annie's Backpackers. Cheap and cheerful, lots of fun.

That's my thoughts anyway. Lots of other stuff I've forgotten about. I'd do every bit of that again. Time of your life.

Wear your county GAA jersey at all times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,417 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

The place is full of flies and the people are full of sh!t. You will hear a thousand times about something being the biggest/longest/fastest/most expensive etc etc in the southern hemisphere. Just smile and remind them that there's nothing else in the southen hemisphere except termites and bushmen.
Also, dont get stuck in an apartment with a gang of irish, drinking in an irish bar and essentially being a steroetypical Irish abroad. Sure its nice to have a bit of familiarity when you're away but if you want to hang around with a gang of irish and do all the things that irish people do then why bother going away at all?

Dont spend your entire time in just one place either, its so daft going to a country that genuinely has loads to see and do and deciding to stay put in the one place for 11 months then a month travelling up the coast is a waste of loads of opportunities. Stay in hostels whenever you get a chance, they're full of sexy europeans looking for sexy times.

Make sure you go to Byron Bay. Great place to spend a week on the doss. And its beside Nimbin. You have to do a day trip to Nimbin.

Oh yeah, every time they call you Paddy call them Wife beater. shuts them up quick enough.
