So the recruitment drive was this evening, just wondering what clubs/socs did you join.

Wanted to join the PhotoSoc but no stand , or if there was, I couldn't find it.

Anyway, joined ULTV, History and Music.

Matter of curiosity, anyone that used the electronic signup system with the Computer Society, Kayaking, Mountain biking or the Outdoor Pursuits club, what did you think of the system?

I joined UL kayak club, cause its class. and this post is not because i was recruiting members, who, if they want to be part of ULKC, should come down on tuesday at 21:45 for an hour in the UL pool. (if your not already a member come anyway, if you dont like it, dont join:) )

Meh, pimp away, it's an appropriate thread for people to do it in - and C&S add quite a bit of life to the place.

    Ultimate Frisbee and Badminton.

Was at Frisbee training on Tuesday at the Bowl and was good craic. Plus I was crocked after it!

Outdoor pursuits. Wanted to join the Rugby but wouldn't be able to play so it would be a waste and also the Karate Shotokan. I might join that later on in the year.

I joined the Tae Kwon Do club, soccer, rowing, video games and computer society. Tae Kwon Do is the only one that I kept up through college. I would recommend joining it to anyone as there is a good mix of members. Everyone there was sound, we got to travel to competitions and we'd have a few nights out during the year which were great fun. Also it made me really fit which was great, could do with getting fit again :pac:

I joined rowing, mountain biking, outdoor pursuits, photosoc and kayak. Rowing, and outdoor pursuits will be my main ones but hopefully I'll have time to fit in some of the rest of them.

I can't make the kayak thing next tuesday either, so maybe I shouldn't have joined that one:rolleyes:

no worries if you cant make the beginner session, come whenever you feel like and someone will most certainly help you out.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 21.45 to 22,45 in the Arena Pool. All you need is togs and a towel and your dry clothes.

we usually head for a pint or hot choc in Java's after.

Because the people who used to run it couldn't be arsed with the administrative side of the society so it was de-recognised.

They thought it was unfair to expect them to administer themselves the same as everyone else. Bit of a victim complex.

So where do all the different coloured forms go after you fill them out. they gave me back a pink one but there must have been at least three more copies of the form I filled out. yellow, orange and white.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭ned14

Pink is for you. White and green are for the Club and the Student Union. Not sure which goes to which.

I joined the Computer Society. I'm going to attend Krav Maga and will check out American Football and sky-diving. I might also investigate the PhotoSoc.

Edit - I'm really looking to join the Poker club, anyone have any indications as to when/where they meet?

Socialist Youth, Rugby and Outdoor Pursuits. I was disappointed with the look of the Debating Union to be honest, so kept the few euro for the time being. I wanted to join the Music Society, but forgot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭Delta Kilo

    I joined..Badminton

I was in fairly early and I said to the guy at the badminton, I like your sign. It had three letters on 3 a4 pages stuck together with tape. The guy looked at me as if to say, wtf is wrong with you, until I pointed out that he taped them together in the wrong order and he had BADTONMIN taped to the table. How I lol'd!:D

    What is Krav Maga?
    Wiki wrote:
Krav Maga is an eclectic hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel. It was derived from street-fighting skills developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler, as a means of defending the Jewish quarter during a period of anti-Semitic activity in Pozsony (Bratislava) in the mid- to late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his emigration to Israel, he began to provide hand-to-hand combat training to what was to become the IDF, developing the techniques that became known as Krav Maga. It has since been refined for both civilian and military applications. Unlike most martial arts, Krav Maga is essentially a tactical defense skill. Its philosophy emphasizes threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggressive endurance in a 'him-or-me' context. Krav Maga is still used by the Israel Defense Forces and several closely related variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement, Mossad, Shin Bet, FBI, United States special operations forces, Irish Rangers and British Special Forces. There are several organizations teaching variations of Krav Maga internationally.

It's a reality based self defence (RBSD) system. Where your traditional martial arts and fighting styles (karate, judo, boxing etc.) are designed for competition fighting with rules and regulations Krav Maga was designed for street combat and promotes fighting dirty and, if possible, using [improvised] weapons.
