No, I didn't see him do this.

Which means he must be invisible!

My God, how does he do it?!?

Hes not saying he's some sort of psychic. He'll explain how he did it on Friday and it won't be magical.

If he's doing it just before each number comes out, it could be the same way that lad did it in Jonathan Creek.

It'll be something to do with how he actually mentioned every number and the power of persuasion of him getting it right made it seem like he got it right

I didn't see it btw, so I could be wrong..

Did any one switch to BBC1 as the can easily delay the feed that appeared on C4. I missed it :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 768 ✭✭✭murfie

so how did he do it then? was it truly live and could we see the numbers before they were drawn?

I don't recall seeing them myself. I'd say he just used some sort of illusionist trick to pull it off.

He had his six numbers picked before the draw. I wanna win the lotto . . . Cant even get one poxy number mostly :pac:

He always claims too that he will never use his "ability" to improve his bank balance. Freaky how he does it though...it aint the first time!

There was a guy under the stage watching the live feed, and telling the guy on stage what each number was as soon as it rolled out. The feed that was playing to the audience was a second or two delayed, so the magician had enough time to shout the number before it rolled into the tray thing.

It was live on bbc. He had a telly showing it live and his number balls were on a stand beside the telly turned away from the viewer. He turned them around after the draw.

That's how I thought he was going to do it. But people are seeing the broadcast was live (see below).

Was it just as good as when he played Russian Roulette live on TV a few years back?

Oh wait. He did that without a loaded weapon so it was a load of bollocks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

Was flicking back and forth between channel four and bbc... no more than a few seconds delay. He also said that legally he couldn't show the numbers before the draw as Camelot and the BBC have exclusive rights to the lotto numbers and legally have to show them first. The number stand was in full view the entire time the tv was on.

Are you saying the balls he used were blanks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,984 ✭✭✭✭Lump

I think it could be a fake. They can use a vision desk to do a split wipe across the left side of the screen (where the stand is) then have some one run in and do the numbers while the draw is on. Then remove the wipe. I would have liked to see the stand infront of derren.

Yeah I'm just after watching it. Could be that the camera froze as the balls started coming out, with a moving image overlayed over the tv screen. Notice he doesn't move very much while theyre coming out?

Wouldn't have been too hard for him to put the right balls in as they came out, then pop back to the other side of the stage. Everybodys eyes would be on either the tv, the balls to make sure nothing is wrong, or on the bbc, so easy enough to get him in the right pose and switch back to a full moving image.

Post above makes it even simpler :P

Derren Brown is the premier entertainer of our time. Great stunt, can't wait to see how he did it.

Derrens twitter, apparently the numbers were flashed onto buildings across the UK at different times today...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭BrianJD

They looked to be printed before the show and there wasn't even a second between the BBC and Channel 4's output

I think the majority of his tricks are based on his real ( I believe) ability into making us think, or think we saw someting. So maybe he made the watcher think they saw the correct numbers on the balls OR maybe the numbers on the balls were projected on to them some way and were not printed.

Another thing, it really bugs me when people put someone down just because they do something like this, eg all the bad press for David Blaine. At hte end of the day, it's all tricks and illusion and Derren Brown will always say that. Just because some people hat not understanding something doesn't make him a co ck

In this case I'm going to suggest he did this with all possible numbers but will only broadcast the ones that actually came out.

I think he is brilliant, at least when you watch his shows on C4 he explains how he did everything.

No matter how I try to figure it out it never falls into place until he shows you at the end of the programme.

    He is very clever.

id say its a split screen thing.

also, take it to magic and illusion :pac:

    Never see "The Sting"?

    Remember his Russian Roulette show?

He never imported a live pistol.

He's an illusionist. He pulls tricks.

    It's not magic.

It's really clevet sh1t to fool fools.

    Are you a fool?

FFS. We'll be talking about angels on this site soon.

Nobody ever claimed it was "magic". Derren himself said it wasn't "magic". He's not a magician or he's not a psychic. It's mind trickery.

he's a magician, in the sense that every other magician is a magician. its not mind trickery.

don't really mind if it's a fake.. he's an illusionist and has created the exact reaction that illusionists are supposed to create.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,813 ✭✭✭BaconZombie

Anybody watching the "live" draw via Sky are seeing it >5sec later.
    NTL is ~3sec delay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

The tossers name is Derren, not Darren.

Bit of a fun fail there tbh.

Bit of fun, a great illusionist but nothing more.

Had he bought a lottery ticket before hand with the numbers (and then if he wasnt interested in the money give it to charity) then yes he might convince me.

Anyway looking at him when numbers are coming out. As mentioned already, he covers his mouth and you can see his jaw continue to move when numbers are coming out as if he is whispering into a microphone.

And did anyone notice the lottery ball stand he used, watch him pick it up by the stand at the end: isnt it funny hor when you see his hand wrap around the stand that it seems to be the exact thickness to allow a ball through?

Hokery pokery is all that is at play.

The guy at channel 4 who is signing his pay cheques might want to hear this.
