No I missed it. Anyone know if it's online anywhere? Heard it was lovely.

I did. Wouldn't have appreciated being in her position, but was glad it didn't go pear-shaped nonetheless.

There's a podcast on the today fm website.

I heard it, thought it was the most embarrassing thing ever, I'd kill my boyfriend if he did that, way to ruin what should be an intimate special moment.

I honestly couldn't believe it when people started texting in saying that they had to pull the car over to cry

And *then* she said thank you to him for proposing! I know this probably isn't how she meant it but it sounded like she was grateful anyone wanted to marry her or something.

Heard it in work alright, was sitting there cringing so hard I almost fused my spine.

    Awful.

Nice that they're all happy and all, but *cringe*

Could he not have arranged to go to her workplace and do it over the phone maybe, rather than propose from the station? She sounded like she was on her own. All you'd want is a hug and a kiss - not to have to talk to that gobsh*te Darcy after!!

Thank God ye agree with me, I was beginning to think I was the only person in the country not crumpled in a sobbing mess at how beautiful it all was.

The minute it turned out he was in the studio I had a feeling it was going to happen!!! While it was lovely that they're happy with it, if it was me, I'd want the person to be there with me & I wouldn't want to be in work either!!!

Woulda been better if she said no, I'd have laughed.

Remember one a few years ago on Ray D'arcy (I think) that went badly, the girl just started to giggle when he asked, stayed quiet for a while, laughed some more and when the poor chap asked again she said she couldn't and hung up. :(

Glad it worked out this time.

If thats the one I'm thinking of, she said yes later, she just wouldnt say it over the radio.

That turned out to be a big hoax, but it was good nonetheless.

I think it is emotional blackmail to propose in public. How could you possibly say no.

If i ever propose on a radio show it will be better than that twat darcys!

Yeah the one a few years ago was a hoax, he swore he'd never do anything like that again.
TBH I'd kill someone doing that to me but she seemed genuinely happy, he was very sweet and eloquent in what he said, and I thought it was quite touching.

I didn't hear it, but I'm cringing majorly at the thought. I can't think of anything I'd hate more than to be proposed to (a) over the phone, (b) in public and (c) on the radio.

Horses for courses though I guess, if the girl liked it then it's all good.

well its one way of upping the percentages of getting a yes, and if she said no at least your not looking at her mug.

My mam proposed to my dad on the radio. They got free tickets to the Late Late show because of it and Gaybo made a big deal of them. They got married in '84 so this was probably '82 that it happened.

    Altogether now.... AWWWWW!

Almost as bad as the guy I saw proposing to his girlfriend in Captain America's... She had the good sense to run right out the door though.

Good lord, I suppose he thought the huge stairs would have put her off running away - well, she sure showed him.

Imagine it had been on The Last Word and she said no.

    Oh the ironing.

He had the music in the place stopped and everything so he could get down on one knee... I'd like to say I was mature about the situation and didn't almost fall off my chair laughing at him... but unfortunately... I can't say that.

When you're popping the question you're gonna know what your partner likes (unless you're a twat). I took my mrs to paris to do it. Found a nice secluded spot. Bingo. She would have shot me in the face if I'd done it on national radio (or even somewhere overly public).

Also, I asked her father for "permission". Some women take this at face value (i.e. that she has no say in it / that she was a commodity that was traded behond closed doors) and would tell you to f*ck right off if they found that out. She took it they way I knew she would....as a sign of respect for her father and nothing more.

Anyway, different people like different things. Not sure we'll ever know whether the lady in question thought this was super romantic or super ridiculous.

Ok then, nobody heard the night before some 24-25 yr old proposing to his 18 yr old gf on the FM104 phone show, now thats a classy proposal. I was out in the car and had to pull off the road, seriously cringe!

EDIT: I don't normally listen to the phone show :o

I am delighted that I didn't hear it! Scarlet!!!!

So unromantic. All you want to do is hug the other person when they propose and be with them, not be left on your own at work after all that.

D'Arcy loves all that muck. Every day people text him such crap as - it's a lovely day and i'm drinking lovely tea with my lovely husband and i'm so happy with my lovely life.
If it's so fcuking lovely why are you telling ray d'arcy??????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭Corb

Haha newmills, get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?

Does anyone know where in the show it was? I don't want to have to listen to 3 hours of the podcast to find it, thanks.

You forget to mention the token "I have a lovely baby" remark. Ray D'Arcy pretty much only reads messages from people if they're cooing over their offspring. Ray, you have a baby, we get it, well done, but not all your listeners do so STFU! :D

Major cringe. I would literally not be happy!!! It's the equivalent of giving me flowers. Eh, no, thanks!

Really? How come? I think flowers are nice. Hell....I think I'd be happy if someone bought me flowers.

    Nobody ever has.

    *Cue raucous sobbing*

Oh, I was just kidding in that post! Anna Molly was beside me and she knows of my hatred for flowers! :)

I just don't get it. Like, what exactly am I supposed to do with flowers?! I think they're a complete waste of money and I'd prefer if a guy just bought me a packet of white Buttons tbh haha!

Don't sob, nobody has bought you flowers 'cause they bothered to get to know you and bought you something you would really appreciate! I hope!

That's it, I think flowers are thoughtless! Unless whoever you're buying them for is really into that kinda thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

    Aaaah right. Gotcha. :)

Nah, I'm a bloke and people don't really buy blokes flowers. I was only joking about the sobbing bit too. :) Sure....they are a bit useless alright, but I still think they're nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

Oh, I know you're a guy and you weren't really sobbing!

I'll buy you flowers sometime though so you feel a bit better about it all! :D
