student portal

    i registered this morning but I can't access my student portal page with the username and password that i've been given... does it take a while? i know it takes 24 hours for your e-mail to work but is it the same for the student portal?? :eek:

    I'm having similar problems. I went to see if I could find my timetable but no luck. Just says my portal page is not available. Must take a while for it too work.

    Mine works fine, but I registered a couple of days ago so it may need 24 hours to activate as well.

    I registered last nice (about 2 or 3 in the morning) and it didn't work, it is now though, so just wait a while.

    Is your e-mail address working too? It's telling me that authorization is required

    I tried logging in the day I got the reg pack just to see and it worked, but just for the sake of it I said i'd leave it until it was actually open :D

    I was able to log in to the registration site on the day i got the details in the post and it seemed fine.
    Though i didn't chance registering until last night because I figured that they had a good reason for telling us not to register until the 9th

    I havent tried to login yet as I dont have my password at the moment however that link has been up since about 9 this morning. You can also get at it through http://mail.google.com/a/mail.dcu.ie. However this just redirects to the same login screen.

    It appears that alot of us tried this on the day we got it. I did the same. I guess the only reason why they said the 9th was to make the registrations easier to process.

    It's supposed to be the same as your registration username and password I believe, the other email account was anyway and that worked, but I get a 404 error when I try log in.

    That's what I did too :pac:

    I was actually kind of freaked out when I got the email saying I was registered! like it was from the future or something

    I got into my portal thing today, but now I'm getting 404 errors left, right and centre. Must just be acting up or something.

    Just wait a little longer - there's nothing wrong with the system! I did my BA at DCU so my user account already exists and it all works fine for me. It works too well - apparently I owe DCU 25c for printing from my undergrad days... :eek:

    I think there's just a slight lag while your details are processed.

    i suppose i should really just wait the 24hrs!!! I just checked again there and i'm still getting a 401 authorization required message!! I'll wait till tomorrow and c what happens :pac:

    it's been more than 24hours and i'm still being told that i need authorization and it won't let me into e-mails or my portal page :mad: what am i gonna do?

    You're not the only one with the problem. It's something on their end I reckon. I wouldn't worry about it unless you can't access the day before we're due to start.

    I'm after ringing the computer support place and they said that there had been problems. he took my student number and asked what time yday I registered at. said he'd have a look into it. I'll let you know what he says :pac: they really need to sort out their systems ASAP

    According to the email I got the timetables will be online from Monday onwards. I don't know if that's a general thing or specific to the course I'm in.

    The time table for my course is the one from 2008/2009. Hope they update it soon! Took more than 24hours, but now I can log into everything.

    I quite like the layout of the Portal Page. There's so much info specific to the course, it's great! There were also recommended library resources based on my undergrad degree I did in UCD....always seems a bit spooky when an organisation knows that kind of stuff. I know I gave them the info but still....I wasn't expecting them to be efficient enough to act on it! A good start methinks!

    Wtf is going on? I tried registering yesterday, but once I type in username & password it just says "Database Unavailable" or whatever.

    That's it. Monday morning I'm phoning them and I'm yelling. Loudly.

    logged in there now using username and password supplied with registration details.

    got mail up and running and personalised, also set it up on my phone. you gotta love gmail.

    also received my giro which i requested on wednesday. very prompt which im happy about, its seems to be run very well. i have studied in DIT for 4 years and the level of support services DCU have seems to be way ahead.

    I am trying to register but when I select "I Accept" in step 4 Rules & Regulations I got the attached alert and I can not continue to step 5!!!!

    Any advice?

    Me too!! :( And I regisered the very 1st day and i still cant access my email!! :(

    Use a different browser then IE.

    It says I have to fill in the subjects section but I'm not allowed to!

    But I've paid the registration and got an email from them!

    Yeah it does, told me I couldn't choose courses either, I think some courses don't have optional modules so it'll just put you in all of them and not give a choice.

    I wondered about this too, but once I clicked the 'I accept' button in Step 4, I could move straight onto Step 5. Are you still havng trouble with it? The system looks simple on the surface, then all the niggly flaws start coming through. There's a podcast for registering at

    My Portal and email seem to be working fine. I'm using Firefox. It's seems to be completely random whether they work or not for people. :rolleyes:

    When people say their mail "won't work" is it that when you enter your username and password it says they are incorrect? Because that's whats happening to me, but I've tried loads of times and made sure I'm entering the correct username and password but it still doesnt work :(

    Same here, thing is, if I enter in some other email/password then I just get a simple "Authorization failed" message, if I enter the right one I get taken to a different page and get some weird error message.
    So surely our accounts are in there in some form, just not letting us use them
