I'm really enjoying their album. Saw them for a while at the picnic - they were good but nothing amazing. It was basically like listening to their cd on a nice soundsystem, not as much variation as you would hope from a live set.

I don't understand all the hype around them. They're being built up as the next great band, but everything I've heard has left me cold. It's not like I hate them because they're so rubbish, but they don't inspire any reaction in me at all. I really don't get why they're getting so much attention.

Prob cos they're different. Peeps love that stuff.

Wasn't that impressed with their EP show in fact at one point I fell asleep while standing up (although that's not that unusual for me) while I may check out the album as its getting quite impressive reviews at first glance they aren't that different then every other band form the last 5 years with lots of early 80's influences just that their influences are slightly different post-punk bands

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

Saw them at the EP, wasn't blown away and left after a couple of songs. Don't think it was the right venue to listen to a band like that for the first time.

I will check them out at some point though.

    That's exactly it.

The 'next big thing' is rarely that different.

really enjoy their music and they played perfectly at picnic but they just stood static for the entire set. incredibly boring to watch but a great band nonetheless

I personally think its just odd crap. ha. Just interested me why weird bands get so hyped

I think it's a nice album but why the hype? I saw them at EP, enjoyed the set, they played the album spot on but they are boring to watch, not that I expect them to jump around.

Much more positive commentary on the thread I started about them a couple of weeks back. I love them though.

I'd be way more inclined to see them in a positive light. Havent got the album (yet) but i've listened to 'crystalised' and 'basic space' a fair few times and i enjoy them more with each listen.

Refreshingly minimal in contrast to a lot of sh*t guitar and chorus driven indie bands out at the moment

I'm still listening to the album now a month on. I haven't noticed the hype and any of my friends who have listened to it wouldn't read any sort of music press and for the most part they really like the album. Fair ****s to The XX for making a good album.

I'm still loving the album. Their songs just run through my head all day long. The off-kilter drums in Heart Skipped a Beat do it to me every time. Love it

Saw them at EP. I wasn't expecting to be blown away and I wasn't blown away. Would go see them again

Hopefully the hype machine will leave them alone shortly and they can then carry on making beautiful music

This album gets better and better with every listen. Really loving them and I wasnt convinced at the start.

Played it in my brothers car and he turned it off real quick only to put on Embrace.

I was a bit wary initially, but love how they had very little hype around them and then produce a fantastic debut. Can't wait

Been listening to the album about once a day since I got and I'm still loving it.

Me too! Running the risk over overplaying it so think I'll put it away for a week..:)

Yeah, I haven't actually listened to it today which is a good sign! I'm trying to assimilate some of their ideas into my own songs anyway so a break might be what I need. New Why? album is out today anyway so I have a new fascination to keep me occupied.

    very little hype around them

I bought their album three weeks ago on the strength of their recent performance on Later with Jools. I'm enjoying it. Not blown away by it but have been sufficiently inspired to consider buying a ticket for Tripod. Intro is fantastic. I like the album but do feel they could do with one or two 'brighter' tunes. It is a bit slow and so makes my heart and head feel a tad too heavy by the album closer. I'll raise my thumbs but with a little caution...

i think there a great band but sadly i think they will never make mainstream due to britneys/beyonces of this world.
I love their music do infinity and heart skipped a beat are great songs. their lyrics are fantastic

Got this album because I was curious after reading this thread but I'm massively let down.

IMO it's nothing exciting at all and a bit of a snorefest. I'm baffled at the praise tbh.

Didn't see any other post about this...

Gig at Tripod cancelled due to their guitarist possibly leaving the band (from exhaustion). Was really look forward to this as well :/

It's true, Baria Qureshi has left the band.

I wonder will her leaving the band have much of an effect? I read that they're going to keep going as a three piece.

I really liked the album, but I think their style is either something you're going to love, or find really dull. The sparseness of the songs makes it interesting imo.

Basic Space is definitely my favourite song on the album. I just love it.

Been listening to this record again over the weekend and I've decided I rate it so highly, that I'd put it in my top 20 of the decade. It's not pulsating or loud or particularly uplifting but that doesn't take away from its freshness. A wonderful creation I think and a very unique one. I love the dual vocals and the gentle guitar riffs.

Can't wait to see them again in December.

The gig is still going ahead. Where did you hear that they cancelled?

Was in an article about the member leaving (can't remember which site exactly), it was an interview with the band who said they were cancelling all current European tour dates.
