Derren Brown will attempt to predict the lottery results this Wednesday in the first episode of his new series, The Events.

The illusionist will broadcast live from a secret location and, in a television first, Channel 4 will show the event across its entire network on Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4 and 4 Music.

Following the live prediction, Derren will reveal on Friday 11th September at 9pm how he did it and how viewers at home can also do it.

Speaking about the stunt, he said: "I realise there are a lot of questions this brings up, and I hope they'll be answered on the Friday night show. For now, I'm really excited and really nervous and cannot tell you for sure how well it will work. Some things just have to be tried."

Derren's previous TV specials have included live Russian Roulette, a seance and a foolproof horse race gambling system.

Watch the video below as Derren explains more about The Events. You can see the lottery prediction live on Wednesday at 10.35pm.

Are you a fan of Derren Brown? Do you think he will succeed in his latest stunt? Let us know.

His new show as above is this week and i'm really looking forward too it. also on that link is a video explaining the other things he's going to attempt to do but for those who are not arsed clicking they are

    1. Predict the lotto
    2. Use of subliminal messaging
    3. Use of Psychic (This will be very good because he's an adamant non-believer)
    4. How to cheat a casino(The one I wanna see :D)

EDIT: Here's the footage of the attempt:

wasnt the russian roulette proven to be a hoax?

There all hoaxes to a certain extent, he never claims to be any kind of magician and has no problem telling people how he done it.

Derren Brown is amazing but he puts in allot of work behind the scenes I wouldn't put it past him to film every combination of possibility's just to be able to dazzle people.

His book is well worth the read as well the mind tricks that he teaches in that should be taught in schools.

Ya I'm pretty sure it was but was. That one was actually my least fav of his stuff but still good at the time to watch. TBF it was always going to be a hoax. I'm sure Ch4 would never allow a real attempt at russian roulette.

Yeah the safety guy said it was a blank. If he could predict the lottery results I doubt he would still be doing "magic" most of which a 14 year old boy could do. If he can predict it then let him give the winning ticket to a charity instead of opening it after the fact.

My first though as well but it wont be that for two reasons.

    1.
It would be exactly how he did the system for the horse racing and there would be no shock to it
Dont read if you haven't seen "the system"

    2. There are tens of millions of possible combinations for the english lotto.

True, at least he tells you how it was done afterwards. I was just saying that he goes to great lengths to pull off these tricks his memorised phone books just to pull off a 5 minute trick.

Can't believe people still call this guys garbage 'amazing'.

That horse racing programme was the biggest joke in history, shouldn't have even been aired ffs, 4th class maths stuff.

If he could predict the Lotto and cheat a casino, why isn't he loaded?

Ah each to their own man. I know its fairly simple when you look at it but when watching the show I was entertained, Thats all you need really.

There will def be some trick too it. Its not that he is actuallly going to do those but at the time he will make it look like he will.

As for the casino there are some games that are beatable using maths, Blackjack being the obvious example so i'm sure its going to have something to do with his memory which is fairly impressive.

How do you know he's not loaded? This is his hobby more than anything IMO, and the only way to prove to himself he's perfected what he's trying to accomplish is to preform in front of people. For such a popular illusionist he does very little public performances.

As far as I know he's also banned from every casino in the world.

He tours all the time. (as previous link) I saw him in Dublin last year and he's coming back next year. He did a UK tour this year.

The Olympia show was brilliant, most impressive magic/illusion/mentalist/whatever-you-call-it show I've ever seen.

As for the people saying it's just a trick... well of course it is. He never claims to be actually able to read minds etc. In fact he's a prominent voice against scam psychics and the like who con vulnerable people out of their cash.

I'm really looking forward to his show tonight to see how he get's on. Apparently he is going to show us on Friday night how he done it. How on earth is he going to do it??

I also read somewhere that he is banned from buying a lotto ticket tonight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

Off the top of my head its going to be some form of a delay,

I don't know how or anything but I'll guess somehow he is seeing the draw before we do.

How much of a delay is there between "Real life" and Images on TV?

He's doing it at the exact same time, I'd say it wouldn't be legal for him to get a preview but I guess it's possible. I thought he'd be doing it before the draw took place not at the same time. It'll be interesting to see.

It will just be editing tricks.... They record a few permutations before hand and splice it together depending on what numbers come out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,984 ✭✭✭✭Lump

.... the draw starts at the same time his show starts tonight. The BBC should mess channel 4 up by moving the draw a few minutes early ;)

No,you didn't. Or if you did it was probably in dat Oirish Star or the even more Oirisher Sun. Legally impossible and even more impossible to police. The programme is listed to run from 22.35-22.45, the exact time the midweek lottery draw is shown on BBC1. If he could really predict the numbers, the show would have gone out earlier in the evening. The National Lottery Saturday draw was taken off air a couple of years ago after the set was invaded by Fathers For Justice activists (I remember Eamonn Holmes ran and hid behind the female presenter when they invaded the set with placards) just before the Eurovision Song Contest was due to go out. I'd imagine since then there is some time delay on the show. Don't know if it's seconds, minutes, or even hours. But I'd imagine it can legally take place any time after UK midweek lottery tills close at 19.30. All he needs is someone in the BBC to feed him the numbers and hey presto - it's magic.

''C4 still won't let me buy a ticket. Everyone put poo on their doorstep please.''

Hopefully it's a smarter trick than just a time delay. He said he's been working on it for a long time.

Missed the start. How did he pick his numbers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭The Sparrow

That was mad. The only thing I could think was that we couldn't actually see the numbers until the draw took place. So could the balls be electrical devices that the numbers could be input into as the draw is going on??

Not sure how that would work but it is the only thing I can think of.
