Curb Your Enthusiasm wins hands down, the two are not even comparable.

Where once there a Yacht, now there is not!

Has there ever been a better character than GOB?

    Arrested Development all the way.

Curb your enthusiasm. Not by much though.

Michael: I gave you permission to use the yacht. You blew it up.
Gob: Yeah, well, if you give someone permission to use a tissue, you can't be upset if they blow their nose. Right?

love them both but it has to be Arrested Development.

Tobias: Oh no, it seems i prematurley blew my wadd, leaving on me what was suppose to be a dry run... and now i have quite a mess on my hands.

Michael: So many poorly chosen words...

Tough one this but curb your enthusiasm probably just shades it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,677 ✭✭✭ronnie3585

    Curb, just.

Two of my favourite shows ever. Arrested Development has more laugh out loud moments I think, as in one every three seconds.

It's like choosing between two children...AD, just, and I'm a huge Larry David fan. Both are just awesome though,

AD , purely for the episodes with Tobias as one of the Blue Man Group "I just blue myself"

    Curb all the way.

New series being shown this month :)

I love Arrested Development, I never got into Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Curb Your Enthusiasm easy. Larry David rules.

Arrested Development all the way. Massive fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm though. Such a shame Arrested Development was cancelled. Can't wait for the film. "Oh come on!"

It's an even tie... this says it all for me!

    Curb, all the way!

Definietly Arrested DEvelopment for me. I find that Curb is funny when you watch it and that's it. Arrested gets funnier the more you watch it, especially when you know the story line (the "For British Eyes Only" arc is a perfect example of this).

    Arrested Development ftw!

Tough question, but I'd consider Curb the best comedy on television - it may not have the rewatchability of Arrested Development (and I've yet to see the entirety of AD) but there is barely a dud episode in the six series so far (although the series finales tend to be odd). Larry David is just the king of observational comedy (so many times the fictional Larry reacts exactly as people should react if society didn't dictate otherwise), and the addictive feeling of just waiting for the **** to hit the fan in every episode is a joy. Plus, it has the Doll - the greatest half hour of television comedy ever produced.

That said, I love what I've seen of AD, and it seems unfair to compare them as they are both very different types of comedy (observation & embarrassment vs surreal & random). But if, hypothetically, I was on a yacht full of explosives with seconds to live unless I chose one, I'd choose Curb.

And then Gob would blow up the yacht anyway.

MASSIVE fan of both but gotta go with arrested development.. could watch it over and over still find new funny bits. Pure genius!
GOB definitely one of funniest characters ever!! :D
Larry david is a ledge too though!

Arrested Development wins no bother at all

    Arrested Development, definitely.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is good but a bit overrated imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,257 ✭✭✭SoupyNorman

Plus, it has the Doll - the greatest half hour of television comedy ever produced.

"JUDY!!, ju-day ju-day judaaaaaaaay" and "stop scratching your fcuking balls Larry", My favorite episode.

It's Curb for me, AD is great but Curb is a notch ahead. Both make the world a more tolerable place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,372 ✭✭✭Illkillya

    Curb by far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 969 ✭✭✭murrayp4

(After Rita has walked on the water)
Michael: "Hang on a sec. That's part of your trick, right?"
Gob: "No, that's not my trick, Michael."
Narrator: "On the next Arrested Development ..."
    Gob: "It's my ILLUSION!."

Curb, no contest. Best thing comedy I have ever seen. Never predictable, expertly written. It's on TG4 tonight too...:pac:

Just voted there for AD, seems to have made it 38 each. What an indecisive bunch. :p

"As you may or may not know, Lindsay and I have hit a bit of a rough patch."
    "Really? When did that start?"
"Well I don't want to blame it all on 9/11 but..."

Voted for AD. Never really got into Curb, but have come close to tears with laughter while watching AD. Gob is, by far, the greatest character ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 647 ✭✭✭eire1

Arrested Development! It's as Ann as a nose on plain's face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 836 ✭✭✭fruvai

    Curb, but both are great.

Two of the greatest shows of all time, love them both (almost equally), cancellation of Arrested Development was one of the greatest crimes in the history of TV. Curb just shades it for me, but it's really close.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

Arrested development by a mile. CYE is a neurotic piece of ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,473 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

Arrested Development wins here for me. I don't think there has been a better tv comedy ever.

As ensemble casts go, it's unbelievable.

While I really enjoy Curb, it can be a little formulaic.
Act1 Larry abuses someone in some moral social injustice
Later on that person turns out to have some great power over Larry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭hinduhamster

    Arrested Development definitely!

I've tried to get into CYE twice but I just can't get into it the same way I could with AD. Maybe if it had a magic show and a few segways.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭pab_lowe

Definately arrested development. Blueman group is fantastic.
CYE was a slow burner with me, builds up to a huge laugh which you can see coming a mile off but is still hilarious. Some of it is hide behing the couch stuff a la The office, so I need to be in a frame of mind to watch it. His visit to the masseuse is an unbelieveable show.

Yes but each of the scenarios are masterfully done.

I wasn't going to vote but now I just had to :pac:.

Gob's too-authentic portrayal of hot cop was spray-your-coffee-out-your-nose funny.

Since Curb is pretty pretty much all improv and Arrested is scripted, it has to be Curb for sheer comedic genius.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

Has to be Arrested Development... so many great episodes and infinitely rewatchable due to the sheer number of side splitting scenes in each episode

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭click4444

    it's soooo close

    I prefer Curb, LD is quite the entertainer. I love the Huge Vagina episode;

    Hmmmm... Tough call
AD just about hedges it for me, just for the higher volume of lols

Larry is an absolute legend though... "Schmohawk!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Bugg

Curb Your Enthusiasm definitley, have alll the dvds and there's not a single episode I don't like and have re-watched them several times. Best show on television in my opinion. New season starting this weekend:D

    **** Huuuugh

AD is a good show but it cannot compare to Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Curb is arguably the best written and certainly the most innovative comedy to come out of America in the last few years. The fact that Larry David writes it all by himself gives it the singular vision that all the best comedy has. AD still retains that 'written by committee' feel that afflicts many US sitcoms.

To my knowledge, the mixture of improvised dialogue with tightly written storylines in Curb has never been done before. For anyone who hasn't watched it, its like the twisty, farce-like plots of Fawlty Towers combined with the witty, ad-libbed dialogue of Spinal Tap.

AD has some good gags alright but it kinda cheats with the Ron Howard voice over explaining some of the jokes.

I can't wait for the new series of Curb starting this week in the US. Larry David is a genius.
