Hope mod doesnt mind but this is mainly to facilitate other sports like Camogie, Ladies football and handball which are not probably getting a look in.
Idea would be to have a general discussion page on Dublin Gaa like Dublin SFC, O Byrne cup in the close season and of course hurling and other sports named above.
And so as not to "flag" other subjects ie Whelans retirement which have proven a bit controversial, thought a general thread would be helpful.

Great Idea. Maybe we could discuss some of the motions that will come before the convention also.

I was in Parnell Pk today at the Caimaint finals and the pitch was in good nick considering the heavy rain and the games on it over the last 2 weeks.

It was fantastic to see so many kids getting the chance to play at their county ground. This is the type of stuff that makes the G.A.A so special in the community.

    Good luck to Eoin Kennedy.

honestly I think its a great idea to have your own thread for dublin gaa
as at the moment 4 of the 5 current threads being used most recently and some not as current are dub related,so it's all a bit overkill

the fact you started 50% yourself, maybe there's a case for it being named
"the bayviewclose dublin thread", or you could leave out the dublin as i think it would be self explanatory with just your own name there:D

seriously though a lot of stuff should be merged, as i think its just an excuse for some to post and post ad infinitum

No problem with this. Just an FYI this was tried before as there are a lot of threads related to Dublin and failed. A lot of people wanted to start threads on individual topics, so if you guys want a thread like this to work like the Kerry thread does then I guess people will have to be sensible about what they want here and in individual threads.

Tks. Anyway to update. Vincents out of the Dublin SFC. Beaten by St Marys Saggart. Through are Ballyboden who defeated St Peregrines while Parnells and Kickhams must do it all again after a late free from Dean Rock (son of Barney) earned a late reprieve for Kickhams.

    Anyway good news
Dublin Ladies through to senior final after a 2-14 to 1-15 win over Monaghan. Sinead Ahern shot 1-9 for the Metropolitans with Siobhan McGrath turning in a man of the match display in defence.
Dublin now last years champions Cork in the decider

I was at Parnell Park yesterday watching Boden destroy Peregrines and then watching a thriller in Parnells v Kickhams which did end in a draw albeit the Parnells fans were going mad with the referee playing quite a bit of injury time it seemed.Still Kickhams flirting with being knocked out and recovered well.Kickhams did seem to lose their shape once Derek Byrne went off.

    As for St Vincent's.........:o:o:o:(:(:eek::eek:

I knew that we weren't in good shape this year.We are dangerously close to relegation from Division 1 if we don't pull our socks up.I knew we wouldn't win the Dublin SFC but I took this match for granted in thinkin that we should have won it with our county players back.I think we are going back big time and something needs to be done to find out why. With the loss of certain players,it could be expected that we wouldn't be as good as 2007-2008 but we went out of the championship last year after a 2 game thriller with Crokes and we looked tired. This year seems to be a disaster for us and we are in the relegation zone with Kilmacud Crokes just above us.

This is a stark contrast to getting to the league final 2 years ago and winning the AI Club Championship.

Heard Marys brought a good crowd to the game. Thought Vincents on previous games might do particularly with their goal threat.
Still I think its good for the game overall to see teams like Judes and St Marys involved in quarter finals.
Judes play a very nice brand of football and if they can sharpen up on their shooting they will give teams a good game.
Felt sorry for Peregrines but was impressed with McGuinness. Took up some good positions, fielded some good balls. Shot a bad wide from a free but overall I think he is a very good player.
As for Parnells and Ballymun Kickhams it was bad luck on Parnells but its a case of keeping their heads up. Still in the championship.
Ballymun overall look stronger and Leahy did well out on the forty while Byrne stood out at full forward I thought.

Congratulations to the Jackies on qualifying for the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football final on 27th September in Croke Park. It was a hard-earned but deserved win over last year’s beaten finalists, Monaghan. Player of the Match deservedly went to Siobhan McGrath of Thomas Davis. Sinead Aherne also made a superb contribution scoring 1-9 of the Jackies total with 1-1 coming from Lyndsey Davey. They will renew rivalry with Cork in the final. The Leesiders are going for a five-in a-row of senior titles. Clubs and schools will be able to purchase group tickets for the final. Check on www.dublinladiesgaelic.ie for details.

Well done to the u12 girls from the Dublin Summer Leagues who played an exhibition game at half-time in the senior game against the Monaghan girls.

This Wednesday, 9th September, Innisfails GAA Club, Balgriffin will host the Dublin Junior A final between St. Margarets and Thomas Davis at 6.45pm followed by the Intermediate Shield Final at 8.30pm between Clontarf and Lucan Sarsfields. The referee for the junior final will be Philip Fitzsimons and the Intermediate Shield final will be refereed by Derek McKitterick. We look forward to two cracking games of football.

On Friday 11th September the Intermediate and Senior Championship finals will take place in Parnell Park. Paul Flanagan will referee the Intermediate final between Garda and St. Brigids at 6.45pm while Andrew McAllister will referee the senior final between Na Fianna and Naomh Mearnóg. It should be a great evening’s entertainment with many of our senior inter-county squad players on view. So come along and support the teams. After Ballyboden St. Enda’s nine-in-a-row of titles a new name will be engraved on the Michael Murphy Cup after this year’s final. Exhibition games between the u12s from the four clubs participating in the finals will take place at half-time in the respective games. Further details on the website. DLGFA takes this opportunity to thank Parnell Park for the use of their premises for the finals.

Hugely surprised by the Vinnies result tbh. I know the arent the same team that did the AI but thought they had the beating of Marys with a bit to spare. Boden v Peregrines was set in stone before it began. Boden joint top in Div 1, Peregrines in Div 3 but while i didnt expect the hammerring that took place, there was only 1 winner. Also thanks again to blackbelt for the match updates as i couldnt make the game :) Its a crazy year for the league really. Would have got good odds on Vinnies, Crokes and Brigids making up 3 of the bottom 4 at the start of the season! On another note, hadnt seen the Boden seniors for a while till a month or so ago and i must say, for Dec O Mahony, the best thing that has happenned in his career was being dropped from the Dublin panel. Since then he is a new player and the best form i have ever seen him. He has grown better with every game and is a massive threat in midfield these days. Great to see him back at his best again.

1-39 for a midfielder is a great return. I know he takes the frees but he gets about 3 points from play a game.

Yes we have a terrific squad assembled. What we need to do is to play with the intensity the two teams showed for seventy minutes out in Croke Park yesterday.
Can be done and the rewards are great.

I thought it was half seven but fixtures are posted on hill 16 on Tuesdays normally. Should be a good game but expect Kickhams to win it. A bit stronger up front Leahy and Derek Byrne were very prominent while Dean Rock had a very good game as well.
A lot again will rest with Parkinson up front and given Kickhams overall scoring options, I think a better return (0-1 on saturday) is needed this time round from him if Parnells are to progress.

Yes I was very impressed with Rock and Byrne.I thought the real problem for Ballymun Kickhams was the withdrawal of Derek Byrne and this was a heavy price on Muns scoring ability as they hit some easy points wide. They could've won by 5 but then again could've lost by 1.I think a draw was a fair result.Parnells came back really well and seemed like a contender team for the Dublin SFC at times.I think what Parnells need to do is to prevent these slow starts against the top teams and then they'll have a much better chance.

Wonder was Byrne injured. He was having a very good game prior to his departure.

Yes very excited about our forward line. Treacy, Rushe, Ross O Carroll all have plenty of time on their side.
And some good talent coming through from the Colleges as well.

    Cheers for the fixtures Bayviewclose.

There are going to be at least 2 tough, close encounters with Lucan v Boden and Plunketts v St Judes.I think the Plunketts v Judes match is going to be a thriller. They played in O Toole Park two years ago at this same stage and pulled the rug from under Plunketts in injury time.So this will be the perfect opportunity for Plunketts to avenge that defeat.

It is hard to say how good Ballyboden are. They were untested in their last game against Division 3 Peregrines meanwhile Lucan Sarsfields are on a good run having already beaten Kilmacud Crokes in the summer and defeating Raheny last week.I'll go with Boden to win this one as they will boast a clean bill of health and be the fresher team.

I think St Mary's will beat UCD.After beating St Vincents and getting to this stage last year, they will want to build on it and confidence will be high.Blaine Kelly should be the difference up front while I hear St Mary's have a pretty handy right half back.

I think Crokes are going to beat Parnells/Ballymun Kickhams.I think Parnells left that game behind them despite being in front for the first time on the the 60th minute.More stringent tackling or a bad pass in those frantic last 2-3 minutes could have been the difference.Kickhams are going to need Derek Byrne and Dean Rock on song if they are to progress and then for them to beat Crokes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,082 ✭✭✭✭Spiritoftheseventies

No problem. Saw UCD against Peregrines in Tom Russell Park in the summer. Beaten by a last minute point. Ciaran Lyng didnt play the other so assume he will be back for that. Yes Plunketts were run very close by Sylvesters and it took a very good save by the keeper to keep them out.
With the squad Plunketts have you would think that they have a title in them. But Mary's will be full of confidence after Vincents win.
O Toole Park seems to be a happy hunting ground for Marys (won Division one title there as well) so Parnell Park will suit Plunketts more I think.

Some very interesting ties here and I think they'll all be close, hard-fought games. I can see Boden winning the game against Lucan in midfield and Plunketts will have too much firepower up front for Judes to handle. As for UCD and Marys, you never really know which UCD team is going to show up. Marys had a great win against Vincents but with the college term after starting, UCD will have a very strong panel of players to choose from and I can see them winning this by a couple of points, although I hope they don't.

Ballymun will beat Parnells in the replay and could easily get the better of Crokes if they're not up for it. I still see them coming up short though.

Can't see UCD winning it Citeog. They are a team gone back so far and the return of other players wouldn't be really ready for a well drilled St Mary's team riding the crest of a wave after beating St Vincents.

As for Plunketts and Judes,I am starting to believe that Plunketts may slip on this one again.By all accounts,Plunketts have the players up front but McConnell can be very average for Plunketts at times and I believe St Judes have a very good forward line too.Plunketts defense looks dodgy at times and if Judes get a goal or two I'd fancy them to cause another upset.

Back in May Plunketts never let up against Brigids while Judes could have won by 5 or 6 against Brigids last week but won by 1.This is going to go all the way to the 60th minute if both teams show up.Hopefully we have seen the last of the one sided games.

There is always something specialabout County final day or night as it more increasingly becoming known. The sense of hope expectation and confidence amongst supporters, asthey make their way from their Northside bases of Glasnevin andPortmarnock to our County headquarters this Friday evening ,will ofcourse only turn into reality for one set on the return journey. Itcertainly will be a strange occasion at the start anyway what with noBoden Belles hunting down 10 in a row, instead we have 2 sides who haveover the last number of years threatened to make the elusivebreakthrough to become Queens of Our Fair City and County.

The Michael Murphy cup is no doubt well polished and will gleamunder the glare of the wonderful Parnell Park floodlights awaitingpresentation to the successful captain at the end of what should be athrilling hours battle. The group of death certainly lived up to itsname with 3 teams finishing level on 6 points , Ballyboden St. Endaswere joined by both Naomh Mearnog and Na Fianna which necessitated aplay off situation once Na Fianna had beaten the defending Championsout at Moibhi Road. WIth that win a place in the final assured for the yellow and blue clad Glasnevin girls the attention turned to thePortmarnock shootout between Mearnog and Ballyboden St. Endas. Itturned out to be an epic battle with the home side squeezing through tobring us to this Friday evening in Doneycarney.

Tonights contest has the makings of a special night with so muchquality on display in both teams ranks. Mearnog will look to thebrilliant Sinead Ahearn (surely an All Star for 09) and the likelymidfield pairing of skipper Orla Colreavy and Dublin captain DeniseMasterson to provide the platform for victory while at the other endCounty custodian and former All Star Cliodhna O Connor can be expectedto repel the Na Fianna attack. The Glasnevin ladies in their forwardline have 2 ladies who on their day and when on song can cause anydefence no end of bother. Mary Nevin still turning it on with thecounty and her former colleague in the blue shirt Bernie Finlay willrequire special watching by their allocated markers. Nadine Doherty isanother lady who will require special attention by the black and amberclad Mearnog defence.

Both these sides have in the recent past experienced the bitterpill of defeat on County final day to Ballyboden during their recordrun of title success. Such experiences drive you on and while I dontknow if the old saying you have to loose one to experience winning oneis quite true it will certainly act as a major spur to both sides. Thetime has come for a new chapter to be written in the history books ofDublin Ladies Club football at the highest level. This to me is a veryclose call as to who will not only gain the title of county championsbut also the right to represent our great county in the provincial clubcampaign. After a close contest the vote goes to Mearnog.......

Yeah bit of a shock that Ballyboden aren't there. Think a breath of fresh air was needed though. Should be a good game on Friday.

As blackbelt said Lindsay plays with Parnells. She has some engine!

Yes good to see Parnells back in the spotlight again. You never know they might do it tonight against Kickhams. Weather holding up anyway. Two hurling games on tomorrow by the way. Round robin in the championship, Chiarains on first, and then O Tooles after. Quarter finals I think are on the week after next.

There's another round of group games to be played the week after next, which means the quarters probably wont be played until 2 weeks after that.

Kickhams won through against Parnells last night 0-13 to 0-6. Rooney started out at centre half with Parkinson drifting in an and out of the inside line.
Kickhams had a man sent off on 22 minutes for a late challenge but Parnells from play struggled. Cluxton kicked most of their frees from the left foot.
Rock had a very good game as did Leahy and Byrne and those three will lead the charge against Crokes i expect.
Another fascinating duel between Byrne and O'Sullivan in the quarter finals and Rory O' Carroll should be back in the team having been named on the bench the other day.
For Parnells its back to the bread and butter of the league where they are chasing promotion to Division one.

The first half was very good but I have no idea what happened to Parnells in the second half.It was as if the break hindered their momentum and they couldn't regain their composure and rhythm.

Kickhams were superb in the second half.Your man that got sent off was harshly done by the referee as I believe it only merited a yellow.I think Cluxtons free taking was very good and could actually be an option for Dublin.

Did Cluxton play in goal for the first game and then outfield in the replay?

No he was in goal for the replay too and came outfield just to take the frees. He scored 4 of Parnells six points which really highlights the lack of chances and firepower Parnells have up front despite having Rooney and Parkinson up front.

As Bayviewclose pointed out earlier,it is back to plying their game in Division 2.

I think the guy that got sent off is the son of ex Dublin 70s player John McCarthy. Is Paddy Christie injured or just not selected?

More than likely injured. He was never the same after 2005 having suffered a few hamstring injuries. If fully fit,he should be started at no.3.

Kickhams might be saving him for some bigger matches and I'd have him start against Crokes if I were Ballymun Kickhams management.
