Is Linux a viable netbook operating system??

I have a netbook running UNR and i love it. I was just thinking seeing as netbooks have lower processing power etc does it really matter to have Windows on them? Can you get any more out of them having windows on them than having Linux on them considering netbooks purposes?

Yes - it's very viable. For manufacturers it keeps the cost down - free os vs paid os. For consumers the OS is faster, cheaper and does everything you need on a netbook.

And No - you get nothing more from having Windows on it. Netbooks are scaled down laptops - they're aimed at web browsing and basic file editing. That can be done in either OS.

It's only a pity that the implementations that the likes of Acer and Asus use are so bloody crap! They try to make Linux easy - when it is anyway. I have an Asus and I hated the Vtech-like look they put on their default distro. It was wiped almost immediately. If they stuck something like the Ubuntu Netbook Remix or EasyPeasy on it by default it would be much better received.

Yeah I wiped the xandros off my eee within a few hours. They're great little tools. There's lots of distros out there that work great on them.
