So Im finally joining the gym today after putting it off for so long but I decided to just go out and do it.
Im 22 yrs old, 6'1", roughly 14 stone, and my goal is to get bigger arms and generally toned up.
So I'm just wondering is there a specific routine/eating plan I should follow to achieve this??
Any advice is very much appreciated. Cheers ;)

a lot of that article is crap and does not apply to somebody in the OP's position (i.e. wanting to tone up - a non competitive bodybuilder!)

OP - you dont need to gain fat to tone up and there is no reason you cant drop fat while maintaining or building a little muscle - this will get the toned look! I would also avoid the advice about ketosis for dropping fat - the easiest solution is not to get fat in the first place, or at least not in pursuit of muscle gain!

I would advise to lift heavy twice a week for every body part and eat plenty before and after these workouts. eat around maintenance every other day and do enough cardio ...

    Well it does state
What people refer to as muscle tone is achieved by low body fat.

It also explains how to go about lowering body fat, among other things.

I provided the link so the OP would read it, understand a bit more about his body operates and then ask more questions.

I think you'll find the information contained in it is solid.

For diet the stickies threads at the top of this forum are a solid reference point.

For weights be sure to include the following:
    • squat
    • deadlift
    • bench press
    • pull ups / chin ups
    • military press

Get someone who know what they are doing to help you with the above exercises. Don't spend time aimlessly going for machine to machine. Google "starting strength" for a beginners free weights routine. You can thank me in a year when you;re well on the road to being a hulk :)
