Do many people thank bus drivers on their way off the bus?

Just back in Wellington from a week in Ireland after living in NZ for a year and a half and just noticed every fecker in Wellington says thanks to the driver, does this happen much in Dublin?

Seeing as you did not ask on the Dublin forum I can tell you that this happens around the country.

    Always do.

Sometimes, given the route, I'd be liable to fall at their feet when one actually showed up too.

Yea, I think most people thank the driver here (in Dublin) too.

This is some manner of ancient riddle I presume?

    Let me think about it......

I only read thread titles, it leads to confusion sometimes.

Is there nothing fresh and new to talk about in AH anymore?

And yeah, I thank them - it costs nothing.

I always thank them when I pass by them. But on old buses, or London buses where you get off the back, I rarely say thank you (the odd time shout up a thank you to the top of the bus)

    I thank them.

Pffft.. Public transport is for losers.

Is the red button on the bus the driver's thanks button?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭Cactus Col

I generally thank them as they're generally nice enough chaps / lasses. However there are a few that act the maggot, so I don't thank them. Just throw my money in the slot, tell them the amount, take my ticket.

I just give them a quick tug job.

    Manners cost nothing.

Has a bus-driver ever thanked a passenger for getting on his bus?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,488 ✭✭✭pikachucheeks

    I always say thanks, yeah.
    It's good manners.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,479 ✭✭✭✭philologos

I thank the bus driver all the time.

ejmaztec: Sometimes they thank you in return when you are getting off. Other times they just blank you :)

I think in general it's rude not to,if I'm honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭teddy_303

I do also, especially at night. They gotta be peeved working those hours to get you home. Fair play to those guys. Any time I need directions they help, without the guff you would get from people who have a lot more to be thankful for, for asking a simple question. :)

Yes, always. Manners are free and it might make someone's day a little bit better. I generally find Dublin Bus drivers to be good-natured in general. Wish I could say the same about Bus Éireann...

Yup. Costs nothing to say "thanks".

Yes. It's courtesy so it is, I suppose it's something that's lost on most people unfortunately.

Of course, same as I thank people that serve me in shops, people that hold doors open for me, people that bring me food in a restaurant.

    I'm a little surprised people don't tbh

It's quite common were I am to thank the bus driver getting of the bus .
    ' Everybody ' does it .

Only on certain routes to be honest, I do it on my regular bus home but on certain routes I find them rude and aggressive so I won't.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭phlegms

If he has a boards account.

Always and I like to add a 'have a nice day' or something if possible otherwise it sounds to forced and routine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭Pint

Yes, I do. Common courtesy really, but if he misses my stop and drives on meaning I have to walk ten minutes the other way then there's no way in hell he's getting a thanks from me :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,883 ✭✭✭wudangclan

i always like to say thanks.
i'll stop by the driver and say:
"i'd just like to take a minute to express my heartfelt thanks.words aren't sufficient to express the gratitude i feel at your having picked me up and then dropping me off at my desired stop.i though it was a lovely touch when you lowered the level of the bus to facilatate my boarding, you were very quick to give me my change, which was to the penny might i add and you driving was second to none. in short you're a credit to dublin bus,who invested wisely in training you and your professionalism should be a source of pride to all those who know you.good day, sir"

he normally tells me to fuck off before i've finished.

All the time, thank you or have a good day, even if they don't respond. It is just common courtesy.
