    I think facebook is pointless.
Ever hear of a pen and paper combined with a stamp?
Or like just following people around and calling over to their house at random times for a good old chin wag?

I only use Facebook to spy on my ex-wife and her new fiance.

I thought that was what everyone used it for.

Ex-wife, now why am I not surprised!

Bang, and the wife is gone!

There is ust mutual friends that I know of, where you both have added each other as friends. Otherwise it's jsut one person adding the other and you don't count as friends.

Mutual friends are just your regular facebook friends that you have in common with someone else, ie. they are mutual. If you and someone else have the same friend, then that person is a mutual friend.

I really don't get why anyone would add a randomer as a friend, or send a friend request to a randomer. I would have no interest in looking at photos of total strangers, unless I knew someone in said photos. Is it to increase their friend count for some reason, to look popular & cool?!!

You really should pay attention to that restraining order this time, you don't want to end up back in the big house.

I hate FB. I've logged in to my account once, other than the time I set it up, in all the months I've had it. I hate all that "Mary is having a few drinks before she goes out" crap! Fair play to ya, Mary, I'm delighted! There are too many updates and people saying stupid and annoying things on it for my liking!

I have a Bebo which I used to use regularly and I have about 200 friends on that. Only log in once a month or so now. Most of the people on it are people I went to school and college with and all of the people I work with. Then there are a few others who I met through friends on nights out etc and see around from time to time but who aren't exactly friends!

If I wanna talk to someone now though, I'll just give them a call. I think that means I'm getting old. :(

I deleted my facebook account two weeks ago. Haven't missed it once.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭DancingQueen:)

I'm not big into facebook, i only got it a few weeks ago to talk to cousins around the world. Then friends started adding me and now i have about 30 friends.

I do like bebo though it's great for keeping in touch with people you havn't seen in years and i have rebuilt friendships over it. However i do get a lot of people adding me that i wouldn't talk to at all and it's quite annoying.

Don't worry it means your growing up! You've realized Bebo / FB is all a waste of time. Its just a matter of time before I delete mine. Its only taking so long because I can't stand to log on and see 'updates' and other bull that people talk about!

    Haha classic.

There's another one knocking around where some bint goes on a homophobic rant about her boss, forgetting that she added him as one of her 'friends - you know the rest...

Its been posted up before here.

I think Facebook is a good way to keep in touch with people. It's easy, requires minimal effort - just log on, have a list of your friends and you choose who you want to poke, message, play some dumb farm game with!

It's funny, how people will add basically anyone... "Oh, I know his sister's friend's cousin's mother's dog, so he should be my friend!"
It's becoming a bit of a popularity contest.

I know a few people who do this, I find it a bit weird. I know everyone on my facebook friends list as in met them in real life (bar one person) and i recently saw my housemate added my best mates mam on facebook! and i asked her why and she said they "had met a couple of times and she seemed nice"

I think at this stage your right it is a popularity contest with people adding everyone and anyone "oh look im SO cool i have over 250 friends! wow wee"

    Gay

Despite what anyone says, Facebook friends are not real friends. Get more of a life if you think otherwise.

"Oh we have been talking for a while now online. It feels like I have already met her and lived with her the past few years. I think I love her"

    Cad Sunt

Hi, I know I've already said this replying to your PM but I thought I'd just clear up what I meant in my post for anyone else:

    I think you misunderstood my original post - I've never even met anyone that I've talked to online (exc. those I know IRL), what I meant was that;
As an example, I was in a class with this one girl but didn't talk to her much, added her on msn and got to know her better.
As a result, we got really close and are best mates now. I have to say I owe our friendship to MSN, couldn't do without her.

But no, my 'facebook friends' are people I know in real life, I'm not as sad as I seem :P

I been on there a year or so mainly to play Mafia wars. Got about 700 friends, 600 or so are Mafia wars friends who I have never or will never meet. I dont see any of their posts pics or info. I would say most people with large groups of friend would be for the same reason.

    I've only got about 170 I think.
When it's come to the point of someone saying "I've only 170 friends" it's pretty obvious people just add anyone at all they vaguely know so that they look really popular. Not directing that at you, brummytom, moreso the people who have several hundred friends. It's kinda funny - I mean if the person is working in media or publicity, it makes sense to use it as a networking tool, but John Murphy who works in insurance with 750 Facebook friends... who has 750 friends/friends-ish in real life? Such people obviously add pretty much everyone they've ever met.
I'd say the average is about 150 and that's a lot of people to be friends with/friendly with.
    I've about 90 which makes me a billy-no-mates in Facebook terms. :)

110 "friends" with another 7 invites pending.
I'd know about 100/117 well enough to chat with them properly if we met IRL.

I have it set up on facebook so you can't ask me to be your friend. That way, I don't have to reject those eejits that knew me for 5 minutes when I was 9. Instead, I ask people who I'm actually friends with to be friends with me! I don't really want people nosing about to see what I'm up to.

Well I'm a very popular (read notorious) lad in my year at school - there's 180 people in the year, I've got a load of them, then there's people I went to Primary School with, mates from outside of school and then family.

Obviously I'm still in school so it's not that weird to have everyone from there as 'friends', if I was 40odd and still had people from primary and secondary school on there I'd find it odd :P

I think there's only one person I don't know IRL (a boardsie no less), I wouldn't say I add everyone I've ever met, but I'd add friends-of-friends if I'd met them at a party and got on well with them, maybe with the hope of getting to know them better.. that might make me strange, I don't know?

    Oh, and I know a John Murphy - he's a Prick :P

Last week I had about 170 friends this week I have 55.

I decided to remove all the people I didn't classify really as a 'friend'. Most of the people I deleted wouldn't have time for you in reality so why be there friend on facebook?

I think the majority of people on it have a need to prove that they are liked and popular. People who add randomer's they briefly met on a night out!

    Sad really!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,168 ✭✭✭Neamhshuntasach

A few weeks ago i had 526 friends on it and one day i sat down and ended up bringing it down to 160 odd. I only set up facebook while traveling and it's quite surprising how many people you add or people add you in around 14 months. I couldn't remember half of the people i deleted. Even when i looked at pictures of them. A majority of the ones i kept i won't see on a regular basis as they don't live in Ireland. But i still do talk to them and it's good knowing people around the world if you ever visit where they live. But i'm too lazy for staying in contact and i'm sure i'll lose interest in facebook soon enough.

My friends on facebook are just people I went to school and college with, some people I met in a night course recently and people I've become friends with in internet forums, basically they are mostly acquaintances.

On Bebo, I only have 30 friends. These are the people, I'm actually friends with in RL.
