I've had this for the last 12 months. I got it last year as part of a student deal. It was €20 for the usb dongle thing

and costs €13 a month. It's basically dial up mobile internet. You connect it to you computer (desktop or laptop, doesn't matter), it auto runs and opens a dial up box, you click connect, it dials and connects.

So it's not wireless in the way you hear a lot of other services being advertised. You don't use the wireless card on your laptop to connect.

The disadvantage is that it's significantly slower than broadband, but the main advantage is that it's relatively cheap (on the student offer) and you can use it more or less anywhere that you can get mobile phone coverage.

thanx recon, how much slower does it take? lets say if a page on broadband took 5 seconds to load up how long would the same page take on this O2 mobile internet?

for regular site browsing you'll notice an extra few seconds load time, but nothing major. I've been on it on my laptop all day in work and I'm in an area that doesn't have great coverage in east Cork and it's working fine for me.

You will notice that it'll take an extra couple of minutes for youtube videos or something like that.

    The advantages
    Cheap
    Mobile

    Disadvantages
    Might drop connection
    Might not connect
Any speed from 0.05Mbps to 5Mbps really...
Delay (latency) 100ms to 2000ms. Not good for VOIP and poor for gaming.
Low Cap (amount of data of all kinds in /out of laptop)
Not actually broadband at all, really.

http://heanet.ie/news_and_publications/heanet_mobile_broadband is the information abotu the student offer.

I have an o2 dongle and I have been surprised by how well it works.
I can watch you tube videos, browse etc with out many problems but the cap is fairly low and speed varies wildly depending on your location.
