I'm looking for some weights to start out with preferably cast one's (not sand filled anyway) Right now i need a pull-up bar for sure and some dumbbells. problem is, I'm not paying the money some places are looking to charge nor do i have that kind of money.

Looking for any shops around Dublin that sell USED equipment on the cheaper side? Or any TRUSTED sites on the net you would recommend?

    Cheers :pac:

Weights by their nature hold value well and unlikely to be sold cheaply or given away.

You'd be surprised. First set of weights I ever got were from a guy I barely knew, for free. He couldn't wait to get rid of them. He bought them spur-of-the-moment and reckoned he'd take up lifting weights every evening. Got pissed off and they were just gathering dust. Didn't want the hassle of having them so offered them to anyone that'd take them.

I'm sure there are many more like that out there. I'd definitely reccomend looking around OP.

I actually got this set in Argos about a year ago:

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9003149/Trail/searchtext%3EWEIGHTS.htm

It's nothing professional or overly serious, and when I got it I used them for a week before giving up hope on them. It's only over the last month or so that I've decided to start using them again. It's actually a nice little set to be honest, if you have an argos near you. Like anything else, if you look after it you'll be grand. Mine are still good as new.

Though they're probably not much use if you're Stallone.

Maybe your right. I looked at some on-line videos and sites and most of the instructors suggested used weight because they are inexpensive and after looking at some of the price, It seemed like the best thing to do.

The general consensus is don't get vinyl. They are low quality, poor lasting and bulky.

This and you'll probably grow out of 25KGs very fast.

As already stated, used weights may not be much cheaper than new ones and IMO there is little point buying cheap weights. I would say a 50 kg *cast iron* barbell/dumbell set is the minimum and even at that you'll grow out of it quickly.

A pair of dumbells on their own is not going to be of much benefit. Many people who "buy weights" like this end up doing curls and nothing else.

If you are really short of money you should concentrate on bodyweight exercises. You have the right idea with the pullup bar.
