Ok not sure if this is in the right place but basically I would love to get a playlist of about 20 songs from Irish bands whether it be old or new. Songs that would be fairly known and that you can sing along to. Any genre is cool. Would love to see peoples opinions and ideas.:)

For starters I will go along with Paddy Casey with the song 'not Out To Get You'

Do you want the best or do you want well known and something you can sing along to? Mutually exclusive imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭TheGreenGiant

basically just something you can sing along to...it didn't have to be like top of the charts or anything like that. Its just there are so many good Irish bands out there at the moment, is hard to keep track of them all. But like I said it doesn't have to be present. it can be bands from years ago

    okay my list
    1. Fear or Favour- Fat lady sings
    2. Ghost of a chance-the Blades
    4. Hardly ever wrong-The Would be's
    5. It's all good-Damien Dempsey
    6 Lille-Lisa Hannigan
    7. Big Decision-That Petrol Emotion
    8. Where's me Jumper- Sultan's of Ping
    9. Faithful Departed - Radiators from space
    10. Endless Art- A House
    11. Clothes of Pride-Stars of Heaven
    12. Petrol (Hello, hello)- Something Happens
    14. Town to Town-Microdisney
    15. Looking for Jude/Hey day- Mic Christopher
    16. Liberty Belle-Autamata
    17. Maybe this is not love- Joe Chester
    18. No place to hide-Declan O'Rourke
    19. Reconnect- Director
    20 Tomorrow's Paper-Mick Flannery
    21. Lucky one- Paddy Casey
If I had to chose one it would be "hardly ever wrong" by the Would Be's. A favourite of the late John Peel and for me the most original of lot. Still sounds great after all these years. As for singalong songs definitely its all good by Damien Dempsey. A legend and It can't be said often enough.

Undertones, Ash, That Petrol Emotion all from Northern Ireland. Which is still Ireland for me. Not going to go down that road but suggest Bubs withdraw that remark as it politicizes this thread.

Yes not happy at all with Bubs post. It always been a given than band who are from this island, either north or south, are Irish. Ash, Undertones, Therapy (Would Be's from Cavan). We shouldn't have to put up with posts like that. Out and out trolling IMO.

Yes good list that. Know Mundy 's July is a good sing along song because live version is actually better than the studio version where the crowd join in (in the Live version). Guess Galway girl by same artist would be another good example.

How is it trolling. Unless a band from the North identifies themselves as Irish then they are British. Surprised nobody has claimed Snow Patrol yet

Think OP is looking for songs you can sing along to. Thats just the description as opposed to a criticism on Therapy. Examples would be July by Mundy and Its all good by Damien Dempsey and Galway girl by Munday.

Yes I have absolutely no problems with the songs myself. And Ill repeat Hardly ever Wrong by Cavan band, The Would Be's as good an Irish band I have ever heard. You might still be able to get in one of the Indie shops. Was included in John Peels festive fifty.

Surely that's up to the band. A lot of Northern Irish acts would class themselves as Irish.:)

      Thin Lizzy - Don't believe a word
Mama's Boys - Needle in the Groove
      Rory Gallagher - Bullfrog Blues

Sorry to drag this up again, but it's actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is not part of Britain. Britain is England, Scotland and Wales.

Northern Irish is the correct term, not British. So calling bands from the North Irish is technically correct.

Well if we're all gonna fall out over whether the North is Irish or not, why fall out over this. Fact is, he was born in Ireland.. which is more than we can say about two members of U2.. but I kinda agree, he doesn't exactly wear his irishness on his sleeve, then again, do MBV?

Anywho, it's a minor detail as there are plenty of bonafide great Irish tracks out there (mostly from A House)..

      Sack - Tag

Can't believe I forgot this one
