When are you bringing him over? November?

I'm going for options 5, 3 and 1. Some laugh if you got him to compete against people at the Crossfit invitational.

If you don't know who Jim Wendler is, you're probably not very strong.

As much as it pains me to quote T-Nation:

Ah a powerlifter - this would interest me since I love squats, deads and benching.

Can bench my weight, twice over on deads and squat my bodyweight - does that make me strong ? Not compared to the lads on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,921 ✭✭✭Remmy

well he's no Dave Tate but I so would..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Inspector Coptoor

I read an interview he did, in it he said his bodywieght was 124kg and
at the time he was benching 306kg, squatting 453kg and deadlifting
    317kg.
Which is impressive. Anyone know if he ever took a drug test?

I'm sure he took one at some point in his life :D:D:D

I was recently reading about Magnus Samuelsson. The Sweedish strongman
who always claimed to be drug free.

He has 'similar' stats B/W 150 kg, bench 310kg, deadlift 375kg and a
    280kg X 10 squat.

I've always wondered how far people can go without the use of drugs,
or if even drugs are that much benefit anyway to these big 'lifters.

I've been in contact with Dave Tate today, as Jim is away until mid next week. Dave offered to make a post here. He may do that, he may post something on his log or similar, or he may do neither. Also, I've asked Jim to post something on his log. Something will go up at Elite, and when it does, we will post the link.

These two guys, Jim and Dave, are remarkable resources. They likely don't have time to answer boards. But, if we compile some good questions here, we can as a group decide what to ask. Then either you or I can ask Jim in person.

Hey, live people are better than the internet!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭Dan@IPG

    Here's what Dave Tate says:

"I wanted to take a quick moment and post this to make sure anyone who really wants to attend this knows about it far enough ahead of time so they don't get closed out.

While I can spend a hour writing about Jim's credentials and accomplishments I really think his reputation and creditability doesn't really need an introduction but I will make note of one thing that I do think sets him apart from many others and why he is such an asset to elitefts.

Working as our Senior Editor and Equipment Sales Representative has put him in a very unique position for the past 8 years. He spends close to 5 hours per day speaking with sponsors, coaches, trainers and lifters about their training. They tell him how they train, what has worked and what has not work. These people range from notice to elite and from garage gym to pro franchise. When you compile this with his own coaching, lifting and training experience you get a person with a very unique and value knowledge of the field."

We do not intend to limit attendance, but we could do so to ensure quality and value. Ideally we want to get as many people in the door as possible. It is better for the community. It is better for Jim and Elite FTS. And it is better for informed performance.

    cool.
do you know if there;ll be efts gear on sale on the day?

yeah, t shirts, hoodies, tanks, beanies, and some of those new lift strong wrist bands.
    cheers

if they sell them at the same prices as they are online, euro equivalent, they'd make a killing

The lift strong gear would be a good idea, shipping is ridiculous online.

How good are your powers of persuasion? And have you seen Jim with that prowler? I have a photo of him prowling with 160 kg loaded on it!

I am aware of the shipping hurdles into Ireland.

I may be able to place a reasonable bulk order and then sell the items at the seminar. Obviously I would have to roll the shipping cost back into the cost of each item. And it involves me putting funds out there for things that may not be purchased. Still this could be done for some basic t-shirts, hoodies, and hats.

Another option is to take exact orders and payment at the seminar and then place the order in bulk with EliteFTS. We do not get any discounts on products, but a bulk order should reduce per item shipping costs considerably. I would then notify you all when the shipment arrives.

We've got about a month to figure this out. I am more than willing to help, but please do not bother Jim or Elite on this issue. Let's keep it between you all and informed performance.

    Hi Dan

Less than 6 weeks now, really looking forward to coming over for the seminar.

Do you have any updates on whether you will be selling any of the Elitefts t-shirts, hoodies etc on the day?

I emailed Jim on the Q&A asking if he'd have the new hardcopy 5/3/1 book for sale at the seminar (before I read your above message on this board) and he said he will have nothing with him for sale.

Also, do you think there will be a practical element to the seminar or will that depend on numbers?

    Thanks
    Dan

    Dan,

There will be a practical element for sure. Except rather than Jim lifting, it might be YOU!

I am still considering a basic order from EliteFTS for the seminar.

We look forward to having you.

    Regards,
    Dan

Quick question for ya, are you guys gonna be putting an order in and if ya are is it solely for those attending the conference thingy.... I'd love to get my hands on those bands...

At this time I'm not putting in an EFTS order. If people at the seminar make a push for it, I will. If so, I'll consider letting people know here. It's just logistically problematic. And if you don't want to see Jim in person, but you want EFTS gear, your priorities are out of whack.

Also, we have been discussing offering a student rate. We want young and enthusiastic industry people to be learning real world info and not just wallowing about in university nonsense. Would a €100 at the door student rate get anyone interested?

That would be awesome - i missed the date for the E150 rate and i really cant afford to shell out E200 :(

I will let you know if we do an order. In general we will place orders with EFTS from time to time for miscellaneous items. The best way to ensure that you are aware of a pending order is to pay attention to our website.

Also note that while we like EFTS, we use IronWoody bands. We've used them for years, and I believe EFTS just released theirs recently. Are you interested in IronWoody bands?

Dan, the id say he's on about the lift strong bands.
they are similar to lance armstrong's livestrong bands and are sold to raise money for research into leukemia and lymphoma.

Those are bracelets. Sure it's a great cause, but I assumed that by bands he meant bands: http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?SearchPhrase=bands&m=SR.

My softer side (hey, it's Friday) has me looking in to ordering a bunch of the Lift Strong bands/bracelets. The only catch will be that you have to come to the gym to buy yours.
