    Hi,

I am a German citizen, 27 years old housewife. I do not have any degree. I would like to study Graphic Design or ( Design Communication). I have worked as a volunteer for some companies in Germany.

I have searched some colleges in Cork. There are 3 colleges in which i found some Full time courses. But I cannot decide which college suits me.
Need your help for deciding the right College.

    1. CSN Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, on Tramore Road, Cork
    2. St. John's College Sawmill street Cork
    3. CIT Cork Institute of Technology

Can somebody tell me the timetable of these colleges.

My younger child is only 2 years. I have also to arrange pre school admission.

Is there any assistance for Childcare ?

    Thanks in advance

    Kind regards

The college term in ireland is starting in the next few weeks so if you wait a while all the new time tables will be up on the web site.

I suggest u look at the number of hurs per week for each course you like, because time tables are not always set in stone and can change.

this is a link to the CIT timetables sire, pick the courses you like in the drop down box and it should bring up some thing. also try phoning the college and ask about the hours per week.

the timetable for 2009/2010 is bein g updated now so check this site again in the coming weeks

If you are looking for a Degree CIT will be your only option but unfortunately unlike the other two colleges which are far smaller, CIT still has no childcare facilities. You might be able to apply for financial assistance towards creche fees but this will be means tested and far from guaranteed.

If you want to study by day but cannot do full-time I would recommend that you ask about doing the course on an ACCS basis. This means you do fewer modules per year but it takes a lot longer. You can also apply for RPL (Recognition for Prior Learning) if you have work experience in this area so you can skip certain modules. I've done both and CIT Media Department are very helpful.

Finally have a look at Multimedia which is also run at CIT by the same Dept. It is similar to Design Communications in theory but more emphasis on computers/video/web. It is run 50/50 in conjunction with a University in Darmstad Germany so you can continue your course if you move back to Germany or if you want to go there to do a semester.

For more info please contact the Head of Department Rose McGrath rose.mcgrath@cit.ie and she can tell you your options.

    Best of luck,
    phil

Thanks a lot for your advise. It is good to know that i can do the course on a Accs basis. Actually we have no relative or friends who can take care of our children. So that is the reason.

Multimedia option is also great idea. I will check details for this course.

    Thanks again
    kind regards
