Big Brother Bye Bye...

Todays good news is that Big Brother is finally going bye bye.
Come Friday it will be officially announced by Channel 4 that they are scrapping it for good.
Best news I've heard today so far. One less dumb down TV programme for the the dumb sheep of TV land.
Big Brother will be scrapped by Channel 4 after this year's show proved a ratings disaster, it has been claimed.

This year's series, the tenth so far, has pulled in an average of just two million viewers which is a massive drop from the 10 million who tuned in during its heyday.

An announcement that the programme, which first aired in 2000, will be axed after next year is reportedly due from Channel 4 as early as this Friday.

E4 are actually going to need programmes now... uh-oh!

PS - I don't mind 'Big Brother'... it's harmless fluff. There's much worse on the box!

Sorry to rain on the parade but Channel 4 confirmed one more year of it actually.. two more series (regular and celebrity):
Channel 4 has confirmed speculation that next year's run of Big Brother will be its final series with the broadcaster.

Speaking at the network's Autumn press launch this morning, C4 director of television Kevin Lygo said: "We will not be continuing with Big Brother. Next year will be the last series for Channel 4. There will be a celebrity version, plus the regular one. We've decided it's time to move on. We've got to start thinking about programmes to replace it for 2011."

Yes, they are contracted to produce one more form of the BB show but come this Friday they will officially announce that after that - it's GONEEEEEE.

Devina will have to go look for another better job.
(Her constant cheesy grin is a turn off alone! Every time I see her pop-up on the telly, all I can think of hearing in my head is "Hello mum").

    Aarrgh!!!

The powers that be have seen reality.Channel 4 should now work at regaining the quality status it lost mainly due to persisting inflicting viewers with the painful tripe of that BB generated.Terrific news.No more wasting time watching wasters.:D

Can anyone else see the irony in Biggins calling BB a dumbed down show when he himself reads the Daily Mail?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭thorbarry

well one more series of regular and celebrity is aright..... i am looking forward to seeing which faded celebrity will make a comeback and release a few top 40 hits and fade away again

The link was sent to me. Sorry to disappoint - but carry on jumping to conclusions anyway...
Such is the good news and as I also run a number of sites (including news), I was informed this morning (even by phone text!) from a number of sources.

I blame the producers for simply churning out the same boring format every year with different housemates.
They need to shake things up a bit, change the rules. Make it more of a gameshow.

    BB is canceled - Hurray!

But not for another year - Boo!

Why must they tease us with such a statement, only to snatch it away again before we get to enjoy it.

Now if they'd axe another 90% of the craptacular "reality" shows (I can't even dream of them getting rid of 100% of that sh**e), I'd be really happy. Still, great news :D.

WTF it doesnt end till 2011

As they are legally contracted to make one more, its nice to offically know its know defunct as a future show.
As for the last version next year, don't expect it to take over the channel as in previous years. With a bit of luck they will just show that years highlights in between 6.30am and 6.35am in the morning.

In reality though, they will just shove the airings of it somewhere lest offending and as less as possible.
Go out with a bang, maybe. Can I supply the TNT?

    No loss to sane television.

As a show it has gone from an internet experiment in 2000, to a full blown freakshow, which talentless wonders frequent to promote themselves in a bogstandard, and trite way. Most of those who participated are irrelevant, and have been forced to make their name in other reality fora. The rest have simply slipped into celebrity oblivion, where they will not be missed or remembered.

    Its no loss.

    Who?

Maybe speculation in the papers but not from an official source.

Not surprised to hear this news at all. The writing has been on the wall for the last few years. I actually used to quite like it but it's run it's course now so good riddens.

Bingo! Just because BB is over doesn't mean that they won't come up with something even worse to replace it. Maybe we'll have "Pop Singer: The Auditions" where a number of potential pop singers have to share a house and complete singing tasks to win food and they'll have a diary room to record their musings on life and the public will vote to evict one each week before the last pop singer in the house will be announced by Davina McColl as the winner and will get a contract with Simon Cowell

Also, it's only Channel 4 that are dropping it. Endemol released a statement saying they're confident they can find another station to pick it up. I hope they're wrong.

Big Brother is one of those things where if your not a fan(and there is still many of them), its a running joke. But remembering back to the original BB1, I certainly watched it as it was completely different to anything I'd seen before(sure there was the Real World but that was edited to ****).

Unfortunately it just got plain **** after the first series and spawned so many replicas it became stale. In the US whilst reality TV has had a big decade no doubt, they will I reckon look back at shows which spent there prime years in the 2000s-The West Wing, The Wire, Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under. This decade has been incredible for drama and proper TV shows and definately is a golden decade for it in the States.

In the UK meanwhile Big Brother will be what most remember it for and its Celebrity, Jungle, Island ect. Embarassing decade for TV in the UK.

    Well put.
(The West Wing for me was the best intelligent show around - still is. Bought the presidential boxset.)
