Nice PS3 USB Hub?

Anyone know of a nice USB hub for the PS3? Something black, that plugs into one of the existing front USB ports [even if it blocks the other one] and presents 4 or more USB ports flush along the front base?

Not interested in ANY generic PC USB hub or any hub that connects via ANY length of USB cable.

My PS3 is not a PC. I don't want to see any more cables hanging out of it than there already is. I move my PS3 a lot, I don't want a USB hub dangling about when moving.

Yes, I'm picky. It has to be sexy and fit in with the PS3. It has to be the PS3's illegitimate son.

Any suggestions? I will present you with a GTFO if you suggest anything I've said I'm not interested in.

EDIT : Oh, almost forgot. I would assume that it would have to be a powered unit so I will accept a [removeable] power cable from USB hub.

However... I DID see this when I was searching today. Judging purely by the image, it looks disgusting. But after seeing you mention it, I read up on it a bit. The "sales speak" seems to say that it was designed for the PS3 and fits it's contours.

While it only has 3 USB slots, it might just fit the bill. If it doesn't cover the other USB slot, it might even be on to a winner.

I'll get one and let you know. Not purchasing from Amazon, though. I'll try source another one.

Not interested. I don't want a stand. I have two positions in my house for my PS3. Downstairs - horizontal and upstairs - vertical. Not workable.

    GTFO :p

    Earlier unappreciated efforts deleted so:

Trying to get a hub that'll connect just by a plug will be really really difficult. For conveinance they always come with a cable, so just buy a short one. But we'll persevere:

An 8 ball USB..... pretty nifty:

A possibility? It's available in black too:

    Just find a shorter cable:

    Out, out, out, GTFO.

    1. No cables
    2. Has to be nice
    3. Has to fit the PS3 look and feel.

    2. Has to be nice - The second one isn't too shabby, metal mesh.
    3. Has to fit the PS3 look and feel - Pfttt that is gonna be difficult
    .

Screw you hippy......... I'm going home................ well in about an hour.

I'll have another look you BIG yokel.

The first suggestion seems to fit all requirements, although it sort of looks ugly at first glance. I've asked Gamesnash if they can source them. If not, I'll try purchase it from another place.

The metal mesh one IS nice but it needs a cable to connect to PS3. I don't want any danglies :)

I see what you need really ,some USB port thing that is flush with the PS3.
Which also has no "dangly" cables.

My question is : to use the new USB ports will you not have "dangly" cables in it?

    Maybe im missing something...

    Yes

There will be cables attached to charge various devices, those that are being charged. However, when nothing is being charged, I don't want any cables [with a power cable allowable IF absolutely needed.]. In short, I do not want a cable connecting the USB hub to the PS3.

I may never find what I want. It's an interesting jobby though.

You're one of those demanding customers who want what doesn't exist and can't be pleased! If the GF wasn't watching my spending so closely I'd be ordering that world clock! :pac:

I have to say, I like this, purely from a stylish point of view. Totally unacceptable for the PS3 for many reasons, though.

    1. Too distracting under the TV
    2. Wouldn't fit the PS3.
    3. More than likely would need a connecting U SB cable.

    But very, VERY nice.

I agree it's not very suitable for your needs but I included it simply because it's a mad idea and as you pointed out rather stylish.

Hmnn our shop has sold some Logic 3 from time to time. I'll see if any of our suppliers have/can get it.

Hmmm, cheers mate. I'm not the biggest fan of Logic3. They have a lot of kit but the build quality ain't always the best, However, this is the closest I've found that is actually what I want.

What shop, by the way? online or bricks?

so if you're splitting 2 usb ports into 5, isn't there a chance that you'll overload/burn out the 2 original ports if you put too much strain on them?

Good point. However, I'm not particularly interested in powering five items.
    More so...
    • If I want to play Buzz Quiz TV. Happy days, I only need one USB port.
    • If I want to play Buzz Quiz TV with up to eight players, a mate will bring his Buzz game kit around and we'll plug it in. Two USB ports required.
    • Now, if I want to play Buzz Quiz TV with up to eight players AND use my PS3 Eye camera for added fun, I'm stumped.

[Yes I know that they need to be powered through the ports.]

However, the USB spec does allow for up to 127 daisy chained USB devices off the one system.
Each powered USB port can provide up to 5W of DC power.
An assumption on my part, but if I plugged in 5 Dual Shock 3 controllers to be charged, they would still only use 10W or power between them. So either only some of them would charge or they would all trickle charge.

Either way, I'm well off having more than 3 devices plugged in at any one time. But I would like the option.

Kintarō , let me know if you can source them and which branch I should/could go to. Happy days.

I thought they changed this a month or so ago?

Did you try to go ahead with the transaction? Maybe the Marketplace won't but I was sure that .co.uk now deliver a wide range of electronicvs and other stuff to Ireland by just charging a slightly higher VAT.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

Yup. Tried it seconds before I posted that Amazon won't deliver it to Ireland :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Okay so!

There was just a massive thread in bargain alerts a while ago about Amazon finally lifting alot of their delivery restrictions to Ireland (People could buy PSPs, DSs etc) but obviously it either doesn't extend to everything or they sneakily reversed the decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭savemejebus

I have no problems trying to buy it. It goes right up to "confirm & purchase".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

Yup but when I put in my delivery details etc, it tell me to GTFO!!! Imagine. Telling ME to GTFO!!!!!!

Anywho, I'm not here to debate Amazon.

Edit : Actually, YOU GTFO!!!!! :p

Excuse me..... I take exception to that remark.... It's MR. BIG Whinge to you!!!!

Logic3, they want €10 just to deliver it... meh. Plus they are not an Irish company
Having tried espares for other stuff in the past, they will only deliver to a UK address.
Zaps, I don't know what I'm be charged. Plus they are not an Irish company

Much happier ordering from [or walking into] an Irish place of business.

It's also interesting how much whinging I can do in my little corner without getting banned or thread locked. Looks like I've already upset my liccle noodle :)

Anyway, my question has been answered, thank you all and for the fun.

:) Now that's the spirit. Actually. I've now tried it three times from Amazon.co.uk today.

TWICE it was refused. Although the order was taken, a short while later it was rejected saying they wouldn't ship it to Ireland. I should have taken a screenshot.

My third attempt today seems to have been accepted. Maybe they just want to get rid of me :) I'm keeping a close eye on it anyway.

If you can't get it let me know. My supplier came back to me and they can't get it. Worst comes to worst I can order it for you myself. Have a sister living in Scotland and a brother in england so you'll be sorted one way or the other.

Just arrived from Amazon. I'll try it out tonight and report back tomorrow.

Tried out mine. Works a treat. Bit of an ugly red LED but a bit of black tape will cover it nicely. Fits in nicely under the top lip of the PS3.
All in all I'm happy with it. Have a keyboard, mouse, USB cable and pendrive connected with no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

To close this one off [forgot about it for a while]...

The 5 port USB hub is great. It plugs directly into the two ports in the front and just looks like it belongs. It fits the PS3 curves pretty much exactly. However, as mentioned, it is a bit lose and can be tricky to remove items from it unless you hold it in place. A TINY price to pay for such a device.

At one point, I have had the following connected
    * Dual Shock 3 [charging]
    * Six Axis [charging]
    * Official Sony HD bluetooth headset [charging]
    * Buzz Quiz TV USB stick
    * PS3 official Eye Camera

They all worked and charged. It was a treat. I'm not easily impressed by technology but this was such a simple thing. Now I know I can play an 8 player Buzz WITH my camera [needs three ports] :)

Definite recommendation to anyone with a PS3 [Fat - Haven't tried it on a slim].

Ahhh, nearly a year on and I'm loving my USB hub. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I now have two sets of BUZZ buzzers with two dongles. Still haven't run out of USB ports :)

If only life was this simples

RangeR, Are you trying to sell these or something??

I was thinking before i opened this thread, gee this hasn't been here for ages, maybe someone did a search (for once) and really needs this USB hub.

No harm though bringing it back up i guess seeing as the new Slims only have two USB ports.

Jeebus no. I was just looking around and came upon this thread again. It's been nearly a year since I started this thread and just wanted to update how good this U SB hub really is. Have no idea if it would "fit" the slim as I've never seen one. But for a fat PS3, it's the business and well worth the money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭D/C

Cheers for updating this thread, never thought of buying one of these but might just go for it one of these days! Does anyone know if it will fit the PS3 slim 250gb?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

I read that if you're plugging big, power-consuming things into a hub for the PS3 that it can burn out the port on it, so just letting you know that if you want to do that then you'll need a hub with an external power supply. Not elegant I know, but them's the breaks.
