Go to the gym, 3 times a week, play computer games, volunteer, head out with friends, watch movies at home and in the cinema, read. I always find things to do.

An awful lot of internet tho.

Fair enough.. but your employment prospects tend to be better with a degree under your belt.

Offer to do some yard work around your area or something, I'd be driven mad without work. Get out of the house or something. The gardening thing is a great idea.

Learn to cook and bake. It's easy, rewarding and depending on how adventurous you want to be- time consuming.
Do you have any hobbies, why not explore them. Photography, athletics, cycling, whatever. Indulge your interest.
As people have mentioned watch television, borrow, rent, watch your own DVDs.
Play videogames and actually finish the games. Try to get any achievements.
Go to the library. Read up on whatever tickles your fancy. They are usually free and have thousands of books.
Volunteer. There are loads of charities and sevices where you can volunteer one or more hours per week, I'm sure they'd love to have your help.
Similar to one of the above but get out and explore your neighbourhood. Walk the roads, hills.

The best way to fill your day is to have structure. Get up early, pick something to do and actually do it. Getting up late and being sloth like makes the day drag by and you won't have any sense of achievement. Be disciplined.

Maybe volunteer somewhere then? It would keep you busy at least and while unpaid counts as experience and could be rewarding in other ways.

Do plenty of writing. Look into any short story competitions coming up and work on a project. Enter it and see how you get on. Be creative. :)

Believe it or not, you are not meant to volunteer while you are on the dole as you are not considered to be available for work.

That being said I was very up front with the place I was volunteering at, that if I got a job i would let them know as soon as possible so they could get cover. Bit silly really as the work I did was good experience for the CV. I think social welfare are very short sighted. I think perhaps you should be allowed to do 10-15 hours a week as it gives structure to your day, makes you get up and get dressed and gives you experience with people and perhaps a reference.

Other then that I help in the MIL's garden, do my own garden, go for long walks, cook, babysit, catch up on reading.

Being unemployed is awful. Everyday passses with little meaning. In my opinion it is the nearest thing to being dead as you can get. You dont feel part of society. The weekend means nothing and everyday any little bit of motivation you have is slowly and painly dispersed. How any one lives like this on a long term basis to me is unbelievabe. It a terrible way of life. Its drive me insane......:(

Ok, So people with jobs wanna stay in bed and people without wanna work. This is just not good enough.

There has to be some job where we can stay in bed and work....HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Really? I applied for the dole last week and had planned on getting a job volunteering just for something to do (I'll go out of my mind otherwise).

    How idiotic.

    Drug dealing?

Get a gym membership. If you don't have the money for that, go for a run every day. Doing up your house/garden is also a pretty good idea. I know you don't want to get a degree, but maybe you should do a training course of some sort?

I was unemployed for several months a few years ago.
My main occupation was to find a(nother) job. Scour the papers for ads, check the internet job sites, send off CV's, follow up on CV's sent, etc ...

But there's only so much of that that you can do in a given day and the rest is waiting ...waiting for the postman (with todays batch of "we'll keep your application on file" letters), waiting for e-mails, waiting for the phone to ring.

Waiting drove me absolutely bonkers. So, other than doing a few long neglected tasks around the house, I took up fishing. Great thing to get you out and switch off, relieve the pressure. Plus on occassion you'd catch your own food ...we ate a lot of free fish that year.

Shame about the weather though. I'd actually love to go fishing now for a while but there's always too much rain for it to be bearable.
