Just fired up my old NES again and bought a SNES and a Megadrive on eBay. Enjoying a retro gaming month. Games like Sonic really have aged well, still getting hours of enjoyment out of them.

SNES had better graphics game for game against the Megadrive but the Megadrive had a much better selection of games, hard decision so I had both :D

Well it was released 2 years after which is a long time technology wise. I remember my mate having a "grey area" import of the megadrive, used to be able to get them in town, or order from magazines, the days before online stores. I remember the release of the super famicom (snes) in japan, final fight on it was the first screen shots I saw.

The PC engine was out before both of them, and it had splatterhouse and some other amazing games, feck all people had them though. I remember playing it in a console shop on capel street.

Niether! I had a spectrum, and was happy ;)

I did used to rent the Megadrive from Xtravision every other weekend though, and get a rake of games. So due to the fact that XV never bothered with renting out the SNES (in my town anyway), I'll go with Megadrive.

We used to "rent" consoles from argos! money back no quibble returns, think the offer was only on the consoles, games might have been exempt.

Would have to be SNES for Mario Kart, Street fighter 2 Mortal Kombat and DK Country. Recently rebought one:)

On the mega drive: Golden Axe, Streets of rage and roadrash

Been playing ****loads of 2 player golden axe lately as well.

I prefer the old consoles to be honest, games are way easier to pick up and play, I find PS2+3 games require a lot of effort to master and sometimes you want to have a few cans and and play at the same time:D

My friends had a commodore 64 with the tape drive and we would wait 20 mins for the game to load and nearly take fits looking at the different colour lines going down the screen. So it was a really big shock for me when I got a mega drive. The speed the games loaded, the graphics were amazing. I always remember hearing the seeeeggggaaaa bit at the start and thinking holy sh1t. It was a magical time for a 12 year old.

There was a show on C4 called the games master i think. I would always beg my parents for a megadrive after watching that show.

I presume you know, but others might not- that you can get snes and megadrive emulators for the DS, the snes is better emulated.

Yes, I remember the snot nosed kids "ello gamesmasta" asking advice on games. Games master was the astronomer Patrick Moore

Ah yes SOR series were some of the best games I ever played along with the strike series.

Desert strike and urban strike were good, not mad of jungle though.

Mega drive was much better then SNES! Although my mate had a SNES so we would just play each others consoles.

Revenge of Shinobi on the Mega Drive.

Almost used to be reduced to tears if I ran out of lives on the last level.

There was also a level with a load of cars that would knock you down which I struggled horribly with.

I was also a big fan of FIFA 95.

Ah yes FIFA 95 where you could stand in front of the keeper and just head the ball back in the net.

I prefered the SNES just because the amount of hours my brothers and I spent on it. Like the three of us playing TMNT together or whipping my brothers on Primal Rage, fun times.

We didn't have a Snes but we had the Megadrive. It was the first games system any of us owned. We used to spend hours playing the different games or watching each other playing the one player ones. Streets of Rage was fantastic. So was Roadrage. Preferred VR Troopers to Primal Rage. I think the last game we got was Light Crusader and it took ages to finish. My favourite was Desert Strike though. Loved that game. Would still play it today.

Roadrash was great when you could get the chain to pull people off the bike.

I remember renting Urban Strike outta xtravision and being completely addicted to it.

It was fantastically satisfying if you could kill the guard on the tower with one shot.

I remember a bug with one of the FIFA games on the Megadrive where your keeper sent could send the ball into the opposition net from a goal kick, the game would just freeze. :)

Like Road Rash, there was Skitchin'. Crowbars, whips, chains, cattle prods, baseball bats, brilliant. :)

I have a SNES, played it last about two years ago and I absolutely loved that thing as a young lad. My favourite games were: Fifa International Soccer (many s the headed goal I scored infront of the Keeper) Jonny Joyce - Johnny Giles lol!

I also loved Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars and Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart two player battle mode was classic firing shells at one another etc. I got all nostalgic back in 2004 and got a Gameboy Advance so I could play them portable as alot of the classic SNES games were launched over on GBA.

I played Sonic the Hedgehog at a relatives house and used love going there to play on the Sega Megadrive II the way he used to spin and could tunnel in through bricks was cool!

I have Zelda: A link to the past, and indeed it was legendary, something hardly equalled by modern consoles; never did manage to win it or find the sword in the forest thingy.
