Hi, I am going away to Oz for a 3 week holiday, and i have 10 weeks to tone up/loose some weight. I have joined the gym and aim to go 3 times a wk. . .can't really do any more as i do long shifts in work! I want to tighten up my thighs mainly and upper arms slightly, as they aren't so bad, but just wondering what machines in the gym are best to work out my thighs and do i really need to do weights to tone my arms or will the rowing machine make any difference alone?

    this is my usual workout
    20 mins on treadmill
    15 on bike
2000 metres (in approx 11 mins) on rower
    1-15 mins on cross trainer

also, just to ad that i'm only new to the gym so i'm startin off with these times, but aim to do longer as i get fitter!!

I would avoid weights machines, but certainly do use freeweights, (barbells, dumbbells etc) check out this site http://www.stumptuous.com/
and read all the "sticky posts" on this forum at the top.

"toning" is basically lowering your fat levels and building a little muscle. Lifting weights boosts your metabolism, you need calories to build new muscle so it is great for lowering your fat, and then you reveal the newly built muscle underneath. And don't worry you will not turn into a bodybuilder!
