Great news, I'm looking forward to trying it out. I haven't bothered/haven't had time to install the developer betas. Has anyone else tried out Snow Leopard yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,743 ✭✭✭bluemachaveli

Ya I installed the rumored Golden Master to a second partition. Seems fairly stable. Every App i tried works fine. Nothing broken yet anyway. Quicktime X is pretty cool, and the browsing folders from stacks is a nice feature.

Have not had time to play around with GCD or the rest yet. Hopefully get some time over the weekend!

    lol...
Update: Following reports that Apple's online stores for several other countries, including the U.S. and Canada, began showing the "by August 28th" ship date, Apple has now revised all of those listings to again read that the Snow Leopard Up-to-Date disc will ship in "September".

Anyone know if there are any significant changes to automator or applescript? I've built up a fairly big library by now.

I'm still running Tiger so I will have to pay full price for the update so I think I'll wait a while to update.

Anyone hazard a guess as to whether this will be available in bricks and mortar shops in the Republic on launch day? Or would a trip to the Apple Store in Belfast be on the cards?

    It's back!

Snow Leopard is now available for pre-order.

For those with a compatible Mac but without Leopard, you'll have to get the Mac Box Set, which includes iLife and iWork, for €169.

Just ordered mine on the apple store, remembered last time I was waiting for weeks for local apple dealer to get it in stock. Should be with me by first week in September, although I am not as brave as I was so will probably wait a fortnight or so before installing same.

Not sure if your apps are compatible with Snow Leopard? Check this list:

Suppose one would still have to pay €30 for upgrade even though the laptop was only bought about a month ago?:(

So how does the install work? Does it wipe the comp and then you've to reinstall all programs??

Probably going to get the family pack for mac mini, mac book and macbook pro

Nope. Theres an option to Upgrade, and another to Erase then Upgrade.

Can a Leopard user order the Mac Box Set or is it only for Tiger users? I'd like to get iWork and iLife 2009?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭eoferrall

Thanks, my first mac so wasn't sure of it and didn't see much on irish apple site!

Sure. The Mac Box Set is just the only way to get the full version of Snow Leopard, which is why Tiger users need it.

I'll wait before I install it, but as I'll be getting it anyway, may as well get it early.....

Right, I'm not the best on these kind of things, so I would be grateful if someone could be so kind as to let me know.

    1) If I am running Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) should I get this?

and I was told that when you get an apple every update should speed up your computer and make things better (albeit a little!)

    2) Should I buy it?

    Thanks in advance !

What kind of Mac do you have? If you have a PPC based one, Leopard, 10.5.x is the end of the road... If you have an Intel one, you probably will want to upgrade at some stage...

That's what an update should do, but in many cases, updates break stuff instead. 10.6.x is essentially an entire operating system upgrade so the more cautious types tend to give it some time to see what problems others come across, before installing it...
    Profiler wrote: »

If you want it, yes :). It's not essential though, at least not yet as most current software will support Leopard as well. Mac OS X updates tend to replace the previous version quite fast (a lot of third party apps went Leopard only soon after its' release, leaving Tiger in the cold), unlike Windows where old versions stick around forever (*cough* Windows XP *cough*)...

yup, ordered the full box set. never got IWork when I bought the MB but sure it's being thrown in now. The way I'm looking at it, I never shelled out €129 or whatever for leopard so I don't mind this one.

The address thing is a right PITA! I had to edit it three times to get the thing to look correct. It must be the work address it doesn't like.

I use Office 2004 and don't plan on upgrading to 2008 any time soon.
Has anybody who has had access to Golden Master pre-releases of Snow Leopard used Office 2004 on it?
    If so, any problems?
I'd like to install Snow Leopard as part of an overall upgrade of my laptop (new hd etc) but I need to have Office 2004....

Yep, already posted earlier in the thread:
If you’ve purchased a qualifying computer or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard for €8.95.*

What was the shipping time when you ordered? All Macs are now saying ships in 2 days, which is probably to allow time for Apple to throw drop-in discs in each of them. If you ordered before this and there's no Snow Leopard included, then yeah you'll have to pay 8.95.

Sweeet thank you boards for pointing out the 8.95 deal. Seeing as a bought mine on 10June I qualify by 2 days !!! Score!!!

    I'd say so.

    I'd say so.

Ah feck. Not to worry, i wont miss 8 euro. Would i have to pay for the shipping on that seeing as its not over a 120 euro purchase?

Does Rosetta still work? I don't think I've any PowerPC-only apps left.

The €8.95 is the shipping fee. The up to date program essentially gives you the update for free and the only charge you pay is for shipping & handling. Oddly enough, the €29 package that most of us have to order is also offered with free shipping :).

I ordered the service pack update Snow Leopard yesterday. No shipping fee which was nice to see!

My Up-to-date order status is still saying "ships: September". Credit card hasn't been charged yet either. I guess this means I'll be left waiting until the following week while all the retail orders get priority. Grrrrr

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭AlanD

    Ordered mine too.

Also a decent preview of it here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/25/preview_os_apple_snow_leopard/

Yep, got the same email but it doesn't say it will be delivered by the 28th - there's just a blank space:

We estimate your order will be delivered to your shipping address on or before .

Before when? I'm assuming they'll ship them on the 28th and it'll probably take another 2-3 working days to arrive...
