    Hi all.

Can anyone help me on this. I have a six year old Proform TM (cost €1200) so it is not under warranty. It definitely needs some parts. Incline bit broke yesterday and I think the motor is wearing out as it slows down and speeds up beyond the set speed. I have phoned the uk and they say that they will organise a guy to come out but he will cost about £100. Is there anyone here who can fix these, or knows about these. If between parts and the call it comes to too much I would prefer to buy a new one. After six years it doesn't owe me much.

Unfortunately £100 is quite reasonable for a specific thing like that. We have to pay £1-2000 to get a guy from the UK to look at machines in work. And then parts & labour on top.

If you think the motor is gone you should also tell them this and how much the full cost would be estimated at for the motor and "incline bit", since you are right, it might not be worth your while. It could also result in 2 callout charges to come back when parts come in. Other parts could be worn & causing friction etc so the new motor might go again. If it is a motor then a general handyman like a guy fixing washing machines or lawnmowers might take a look. New specific motor could still be pricey though.

Put the model name & symptoms in google, I did this with my tumble drier, found several sites with people with the same problem, and service engineers telling what is wrong and how to fix it, cost me €8 for a new capacitor on ebay, probably would have been €100+ even under "parts" warranty for the callout & labour.

Hi. I suspect you are correct in all of that. TBH am fed up of walking might try a bike this time. Not a fitness person really and am a bit afraid of cross trainers. Either way, I think I am looking at a few hundred to sort this one out. I see similar models a lot cheaper than I paid for this one in Elvery's etc. so I just don't feel it would be worth it.

    Thanks again.
