I wont get excited until I know the release date. To think this was meant to be a launch title.

Head tracking sounds brilliant. Is there even an actual release date yet though.

Have they released the names? I'd be interested to see if it's 60 tracks rather then about 15-20 with variants of them.

Looks great, this game is one of the main reasons why I bought a PS3. A release date would be nice as well.

Can't say I'm overly impressed with the tracklist, was hoping they'd have a lot more NASCAR tracks than they have.

Nice to see the Top Gear test track and a good couple of other nice tracks.

Could anyone recommend a good steering-wheel that does cost a fortune for the game?

I was kind of expecting a simultaneous worldwide release. If we have to wait a while after Japan get it I will be really pissed off.

I like these words from the article:

    "60fps in full 1080p resolution"

They still haven't managed that in the Prologue.

yeah, some of them are sort of oval shaped. :D

I also hope it has no screen tearing like Prologue!

Sure it's simple, look at what happens to former F1 champs who try it.
The fact that there's to be no more NASCAR games to be released in the near future was what made me hope there'd be an almost full NASCAR game within the game. It's all a bit gimmicky to have all the NASCAR cars available when there are only a couple of the tracks they use in it, one is an oval and one a road course.
Mind you if the online is as useless as the Prologue then I wouldn't like trying to have everyone trying to race side-by-side.

that g25 is unreal. whats the story with the clutch??? does the clutch pedal serve any use in gt5?! like is there actualy a setting in the game where it requires you to clutch before changing games

I'd imagine you could use it as an option.

thats for making me see just how sad a person would be with a set up like that. i think the only option is to use a controller and spend the money on drink

That video with the so called 'damage' is flippin desperate, the doors flap like dumbos ears and after all those barrier impacts, all that has happened is that the bumper has unclipped, not even a dent or scratch in sight or a broken headlight! Not looking promising.....

Any chance of a link? TBH I'd forgo damage if they got some decent force feedback into it.

Damage is the one thing that Gran Tourismo badly needs. How did the advertise it as "The real driving simulator", i remember the first 2 you couldn't spin out, you couldn't flip the car and no damage!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 194 ✭✭Ed_

No damage was never a big deal as far as I was concerned.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

I am sure it will be possible to turn off damage if it looks crap.

i think you should try grid or burnout maybe.. i cant really see the point in damage anyway. its cool the first time to see bits fly off but after that its pointless.

Well one thing I would say is that you can't damage any aircraft in Flight Sim, which is far more realistic for pilots then GT is for drivers.

Next thing I would say is that if you're driving your car to flip it over and tear it to shreds then maybe you're playing the wrong game.

My final point is Forza. It's a good balance between "sim" and arcade gameplay with some nice graphics, but when you do smash your car up, it takes away from the game (IMO). Doesn't look realistic at all, and very much looks like "wideo game graffix" damage with just a bit of warping and crunchy sound effects.... yet this is the best that can realistically be done.

I would much rather Polyphony focus on pushing the boundaries of driving physics rather then dumping damage in for the sake of it. If the door hangs off and you've got a bumper hanging on by one clip by the end of a race then you very simply aren't playing the "simulator" part of the game.

damage is needed more so for punishing messers as opposed to adding to the the game for those who take it seriously.

e.g you can drive full speed into a corner, aim at another car to slow you down while bashing them out of the way and then speeding off in front.

with damage, this wouldn't be possible.

I have grid, it's terrible! Race driver on the PS2 is far better. But how anyone thinks a "driving simulator" that you can do 200mph into a barrier and not have any damage is realistic is mental. It's nothing to do with looking "cool", it's a realistic way of punishing bad driving.

Well if I take a corner, and you bash into the side of me, damage or no damage, I will suffer. As long as the system doesn't bounce you off me into a straight line leaving me in the grass, damage doesn't matter.

But online is a whole other argument. It's a disaster in prologue. Why is it when people take sideswipes on my car do I get a penalty? Argh!

So, in a flight sim, can you plough into the ground at top speed and it hardly effect you?
I don't drive to flip it over, but either do any professional race drivers i real life, bur crashes still happen.
As for your last point, don't crash and your door won't hang off! Don't go full speed into a hairpin using the armco barrier to guide you around!

yes you will suffer either way but if i angle it correctly then i'll bash off you and take the corner perfectly! with damage on then we'd both suffer either way. it's a skill in itself :P

it will end the game in the same way crashing without damage will result in you losing the race in GT. 90% of lobbies in forza are setup with collisions and damage off (cosmetic only). the idea of any driving game is to drive surprisingly enough not see how much you can smash up your car.

Maybe you should watch a real motor race. Professional drivers, the best in the world crash all the time. Maybe you should tell tell them do drive instead of crash, it would save F1 teams, rally teams etc millions!

Prologue is a complete disaster. They've had literally years to fix the problem of people running the barriers to gain an advantage, but rather than fix it they give penalties, even if it's just a slight rub by accident.

I find the Prologue crap to play compared to Forza, the force feedback is awful.

i dont think they crash on purpose.. damage is only there to keep the kids happy the rest of us who can actually play the game don't care. i didnt want to say that but there you go, its the truth.

Are you serious, the advantages of having damage is that crashing into people, online or otherwise, is pointless because, although you may put them off the road, your will also damage your own car so much that you need to pit or retire from the race which is WHAT HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE!

Don't get me wrong though the attention to detail in the gran turismo series is second to none but i think for it to be rightfully tagged 'The Real Driving Simulator', then it should incorporate REAL damage!!

I suppose it may not be possible or economic to model all of the cars for damage purposes as it would take away from the other fantastic attributes of the game too much and slow gameplay down.
