Hen Night Theme/Costumes Ideas!

    Hello Ladies,

Right I have the job, as Maid of Honour, in organising my sister's hen night. What I would like to know from you all is any good ideas you can think of for themes, costumes etc. Or if you've been at a hen night that had a unique/interesting theme, please share!

She is getting married in November and the hen night is October so my time is limited! I've had a quick nosey around some hen night websites but everything is jelly willies and police women outfits...which are a few of the things I know she does NOT want! So basically, I'm looking for something a bit different.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    WG

I've to do the same for next April in SA.

What's your budget like, think me and the bridesmaid are putting forth the idea of a spa weekend before the wedding up in the zulu lands and then of cours e aproper night out dancing etc to follow. Pampered by day, partied out by night.

That's a lovely idea. Only thing is she decided she wanted to go to Galway for the weekend, so we've the hotel booked. So I'm just basically looking for themes for one of the nights out (at least). I think the first night will just be a quiet enough dinner with a few drinks and then a proper 'hen night' for the second night. I'm just stuck on what to organise for that night out, I suppose.

    Any ideas appreciated!

Like an 80s theme, fancy dress? I know one of my cousins did that and it just felt more fun for everyone. She was American though, bit crazy. Everyone dressed up in neon clothes, legwarmers etc...depends on everyones personality?

We're doing a weekend I think, spa, night out etc...

Whatever you do, don't get that tacky stuff you see in Claires. Oh god.

I was watching Kendra last night, her bridal shower was really nice.
Don't know if your sister would be into it, I thought it was nice.
Well..the decoration and such, not Mary doing a strip tease!:D

My cousin had a "black and bling" theme for hers... basically, we all just got super dolled up in our lbds and added loads of trashy costume jewellery! Was great craic, we all looked hot and the Hen really stood out cos she didn' t wear black.

    Hi OP,
    What about a masquerade theme???
Some of the masks are really funky. :)

Well this is the thing, I doubt she'll want even an L plate in sight, never mind the tacky tiaras, wands, veils and sashes!! She's very fussy. I like Shellyboo's idea and the Masquerade one too, but how she'll feel about them will be a totally different story!!

I was at one last year that had a 1920's theme, it was a great excuse to wear flapper dresses and long gloves and stock up on penny's over the top accessories!:)

In Galway, it's a good thing that you won't be going too trashy, I've seen people be turned away if they are too rowdy.

If you are going for classy, you could have an afternoon tea party first, somewhere with nice cake and coffee, like Goya's on Kirwans lane, or the G Hotel (just for the afternoon tea, it's pricey).

I didn't want anything dressing up wise, except maybe hi-vis vests hard hats and wellies. My friends got around this with liquor. They dressed me up as a leopard. It was actually great craic after I decided to go along with it instead of getting grumpy. Thankfully my no strippers request was heeded.

we had a 80's nite and every one made the effort....penneys made a fortune out of the lot of us!! There were 1 or 2 shyer people in the group but like I said we all made the effort and we looked fabulous :D

before that we went to place called causey farm in kells, was a great laugh, got to know everyone and was really relaxed.

then the evening was the usual, dinner and far too much to drink and the usual meyhem, and the dancing, dear god the dancing, my legs are still numb :o

Please consider not making anyone dress up!!

I have to say I've been to a few hens & I have one coming up soon where we are being made dress rediculously & I & the others are absolutely dreading it!

Whatever happened to a good night/ weekend out? Why put stress on people to be uncomfortable the whole night...

Just my opinion, Im actually thinking of ways to get out of this upcoming hens for this reason as are half the hens!! I feel sorry for the bride to be..

Best of luck whatever you decide!

I think it's really unfair to make all your mates dress like tits... it makes everyone uncomfortable, I think. It's much nicer to just ask everyone to go all out and dress up really nicely, that way everyone feels like they look their best.

For my sister's we made a quiz about her husband to be- what's his favourite book etc. For every wrong answer she had to put on another tacky hen night item- like a veil, L plates, a bum pinching wand etc.

    Ok,
    Hen Themes

    Cheer leader
    Cowgirl
    School Girl
    Police woman
    moulan rouge

we also do a photo book for the bride to be, everyone donates a few pictures and a message on a piece of paper, we put the album together with all the messages and photos and it looks great!!

We recently organised a fame theme hen, it was great with all the 80's and neon bits that are in penneys recently, all the girls bought there own white t shirts and printed on the tshirt logo with the iron on transfers!!

well 1st of Galway is def a good choice for the hen, great pubs etc. I was just at a fancy dress recently, now wasnt a hen but was my 1st fancy dress and i couldnt praise it enough.we all did the 60's theme, hired outfit and then got any extras bits in pennys, not expensive idea.
If not the brides cup of tea then ye could just get dressed up in ye're own clothes and head to the G hotel for evening cocktails to get the night started,i think before hand they get you to name the cocktails so the grooms name can get used etc and as another post mentioned a quiz with the answers frm the groom is always a great laugh.
There is a website that a friend got her idea of its www.poshfizz.com. not based in Galway but they did the spa package.
Hope some of that helps, have fun!:)
