Go to a doctor for medical advice?

Try singing. Odd factoid, but opera singers don't get asthma, probably due to efficent lung use. I've found that when I have hay fever, if I sing while cycling, I can breath better. Just be grateful you don't have to listen to me.

I had asthma when I was a young chap, it's not nice. Maybe you'll grow out of it.

i have the same problem when i put on weight . basically being overweight is unhealthy and makes you more at risk to illness. everything including your breathing is affected. as you lose weight your breathing will become better. a simple rule is to burn off more calories than you take in

dont overdo it but dont underdo things. keep to a balanced plan and keep going with it . if you overdo it you will put yourself off and wont follow through. and by the way ignore that idiot who posted the insulting remark.
sounds to me like he is the one with the real problems. :)

Bad luck Davey. Ninja edits don't work any more. I can still see your original post....not that it wasn't quoted anyway. Now it looks like you have more than one account registered.....if so (and that will be easy to verify) you'll be looking at a site ban. o/

Get a full medical and tell doctor you want to start training. You will need to do weights as well to lose body fat and remember long term changes to diet are the key to keeping weight off.

Don't mind the twit. You'll know your own right weight, and it may have nothing to do with BMI tables. I'm female, and my right weight, the one with visible veins and abs, is 12.5 stone. You may be nearer than you realise.

Hi OP - I used to have this problem, have mild asthma but found that it was never ever a problem until I picked up the pace of my exercise - same as what you describe - low lung capacity.

On visiting my GP (which I recommend) I was told that a good way of increasing my lung capacity was a combination of swimming and particular types of yoga. It worked :D

Try going gluten-free for a month and see if that helps.

Gluten instigates an auto immune reaction in asthmatics that brings on an attack.

For a list of gluten containing foods, check out:

    http://www.the-gluten-free-chef.com/foods-containing-gluten.html

When I gave up gluten I was rewarded with a two inch reduction in my waist in a week. It really is worth a try for anyone with an auto-immune condition.

    Very good advice there.

I've the same problem with allergies, gotta avoid dairies like the plague.
I find it also helps ,just a bit, to keep the water in your bottle warm.
    Cold water makes me phlegmy.

Didgereedoo has been used in treating asthmatic children.
Apparently the circle breathing has some sort of positive effect on asthmatics.

Not that I'm advocating it or anything.
    Just popped into my head.

I'm e-mailing Schwinn right now, I'll be a bluddy millionaire in no time,
selling didgereedoo attachments for exercise bikes.

    Gold man, gold.

i'd say have a look at your posture as well.

my posture used be very bad, and after pushing it running, I'd end up out of breath and a sharp pain in my shoulder. I'd be quite hunch over when running

I've improved my posture, and I'm breathing easier when running and I no longer have the pain.

Magnesium supplements can help with auto-immune conditions like asthma/hayfever.

Natural Calm on iherb is relatively inexpensive way of getting it in. It takes a few weeks for you to build up your levels but it's well worth it.
