    Hey all!

I struggle with my weight and find it hard to shift pounds. For the past 2 months i have started walking 4k every day and i have really noticed a huge improvement in all aspects of my life. I started out at 15 stone and i have almost hit the 13 mark. My question is, sometimes i get really bad pains in my shins when i'm walking, one leg or the other.

It gets very uncomfortable, feels like someone pressing a bruise etc.

i reckon you have shin splints.

a mate in the army told me they do "toe taps" for them.

sit down on a chair put your heel on the ground and tap your feet repeatedly off the ground.
I've tried it in the past and it works.

eventually they should pass as you become more accustomed to exercise.

hi op, well done thats great progress, you obviously made some changes to diet too? Do you walk every day? Do you have access to a gym or maybe some pieces of home equipment like exercise bike etc? It would be no harm to switch things up a little so you are doing non impact stuff if your shins dont feel right ...

    Follow the ICE rule
    Ice your shins
    Compression
    And Elevate.
Does indeed sound like shin splints.

A proper pair of walking shoes will make a big difference. Normal trainers don't always offer your feet etc enough protection and walking that amount it might be an idea to invest in a pair.

As seen as the Simplest answer is usually the best... Buy new trainers!!
more often then not, better footwear will sort you out

    It's free!

shin splints can happen whether you have good / bad trainers.
