Hey, A thought occured to me today as i was cleaning the house... I do a lot of things and buy a lot of products similar to my mom and use her tips.

So it got me thinking that this may be a good forum for sharing them with each other.
You always see these in magazines.

I should point out that my friends call me suzy homemaker so i aint sure what the response will be.

    Heres a few

Store the duvet set inside the pillow cases folded up this way you always have the matching set.

Put hancream on before you put on rubber gloves good for the lamhas apparently

have a shot glass full of bread soda in the fridge to keep out dodgy smells change once a week

Also use a cap of milton in the dishwasher instead of expensive dishwasher cleaner (this is my own)

Take all your expensive soap from L'Occitane and Lush etc out of its waxed paper wrapper and let it dry out for a week before using it, maybe in a lingerie drawer. It lasts much longer.

Wipe the bathroom mirror with a soft cloth with a couple of drops of washing up liquid on it. It prevents it from fogging up when you're in the shower/bath.

Put a few drops of essential oil or perfume on a tissue and place in either the vacuum bag or the cylinder of your bagless vacuum cleaner for fragranced rooms as you clean.

Use toothpaste to remove scuff marks from skirting boards, lino and vinyl or wooden floors.

Put your cushion pads etc. in the tumble dryer and tumble hot for ten minutes to kill dust mites.

Only the mirror one is mine, the rest are my exceptionally domesticated friends tips.

a soft toothbrush and some toothpaste will get jewellery sparkling clean

for oily or greasy stains on clothes, put a brown paper bag over them and then iron on top of the bag, you will end up with an oily bag and clean clothes

this ^ also works for candle wax on carpets

a cut lemon in the fridge also keeps away pongs

Speaking of candles, if a zip is sticking and not running smoothly, running a candle down the teeth on both sides will make it run properly.

Same tip for drawers that stick, rub the runners with a candle and the wax makes them run smoothly.

Good tip with the brown paper bag though.:)

If like me you burn pots while attempting to cook, pour vineger in to the pot and leave overnight and you will you be able wash the pot next morning easy peasy.

Oh and here is one curtosy of Kim and Aggie, when cleaning windows. Work horizontially on the outside and vertically on the inside, that way when you finish you know straight away which side the streaks are on. Rarely used in my house as the windows are just about last on my list.

To sterilise my washing up cloth and sponge, I wet them and blast in the microwave for about 45 seconds (depends on your wattage though). It kills all the bacteria and stops cloths getting smelly. Make sure the cloth or sponge is fairly wet (doesn't have to be dripping wet though) or else it might catch fire in the microwave!

Another one is to put slices of lemon in water and microwave for sixty seconds and wipe inside with a cloth

through traumatic experience- nail polish remover will remove heat stains from varnished/polished wood. I have no idea how it works, but it really does
(as a side note, don't leave hot boxes of chinese on your relatives' best table while they're away for the evening  )

think shampoo on the mirror works as well as washing up liquid
